The reporters seem to give Gruden a pass during his press conferences and I really don't understand why. He needs to be held accountable for all his failures this season.

Gruden's the least-aware head coach I've ever seen. He can tell you everything Robert Griffin did wrong with his feet, his eyes, his decisions. But more than that? No. He can't see how the defense is stopping him and come up with a way to adjust. He can't tell you why his team does what it does week after week. He doesn't know when a player's been kicked out.
He's a QB micromanager, nothing more.
For some reason or another.
We'll have to watch the films to figure out why.

It's pretty obvious he did just that. And then had the injured player trot out to talk to the press and say why it was OK, while he was in obvious pain.

So Grudes is in a tough spot here.
If he keeps playing Griffin and Griffin plays well, then people will wonder why the hell he gave up on him so early and didn't allow him to keep playing to get right.
If he keeps playing Griffin and the team keeps losing, it doesn't help his case for coming back next year after a 3-13 season.
Kind of a no win situation for him. Though, he brought it upon himself.

Perhaps he's resigned himself to his fate?
Also, I like how he's just saying now that they'll design an offense around RGIII's skills....
It looks like it never dawned on him to build the offense around his strengths. And it looks like Gruden expects his offense to flourish without an effective running game. But Griffin is so handicapped, he needs an effective running game.
I mentioned this earlier. Gruden has coached himself into a no-win situation.
His last grasp was to have Colt McCoy do a Rich Gannon, go from journeyman QB to solid starter, and show everyone that his offense is awesome and Griffin was the problem.
I think more people than ever think Gruden's offense is a big part of the problem.

Is anyone else watching the Monday night game? Jon Gruden is repeatedly taking apart Jay Cutler's throwing mechanics, decisions, footwork, etc. He's been doing it since the first quarter.

"He's a good player," Amerson told NJ.com. "I'm not saying he's not. But it's not really that difficult. He just sat down in zones and he catches the ball — he's very good at that. They threw him a lot of balls, so of course he has a lot of yards, but I wouldn't say he was difficult to cover. I wouldn't say that."

Maybe it wasn't all that difficult for Amerson since fellow corner Bashaud Breeland actually drew Beckham's assignment for much of the afternoon, racking up four penalties for 70 yards in the process.
"He made some plays. I made some plays," the Redskins rookie corner told Washington Post columnist Thomas Boswell. Pressed on whether he would've done anything differently in retrospect or hoped to get some help, Breeland added, "Not really," and, "Are you saying I need help? I don't need any help."

OK, Amerson: they threw a lot to him so he burned us a lot...it's not that hard. I guess it's not too hard when you are going against a secondary that can't cover. But you know, it does happen in the NFL David that players are thrown to and they don't beat the secondary every time.
Then Breeland: OK, he made some plays and you made some plays. Three of his plays were touchdowns. What were your big plays? Also, I can see why you don't need help...I mean, you have arrived and all.

Based on the Monday night game, I clearly expect the Redskins to trade for Jay Cutler. We'll probably give the Bears Robert Griffin and 2 number one picks for Cutler. I posted before the most likely scenario is that Allen, Gruden, and Haslett are all back next season.
Gruden has had a brutal few weeks since then. Maybe he will fail in getting himself fired. A fitting end to a 3-13 season since he has failed at so much.

Heard she's been fed misinformation in the past, wouldn't be too surprised if it happened here. Don't know why Gruden wouldn't say if his job was secure so the "sources" sound sketchy. It's hard to believe in a coach who quits before the game is over.

Agreed. If Gruden had met with Bruce/Dan and they said he was safe, why would he lie about that? Unless they met with him after the presser? I don't know.
But yeah, Dianna has been misled by sources already this season. Just seems strange that none of the local reporters have said anything similar.
For draft status, we are number 5. But if the team can continue its ways with false starts, illegal formation, and punting at the end of games, they can move up.

Hang 10 is right. Getting an assurance from Allen that he is safe doesn't necessarily mean they are both safe.
It all comes down to if Danny Boy keeps Allen. Unless Allen is fired, I think Gruden is safe. I can't see ditching a coach and friend after one season unless I thought they were provided the talent to succeed, which is not the case. Also don't think the owner would part with $20m unless they were convinced there is a better GM / Coach tandem willing to come here. There may be, I just don't know that aspect of the NFL well enough to say.
Just to note, I did not say this report makes everyone safe. But the most likely scenario is that all three will be back. And this report increases the chances that Gruden will be back.
I could see them bringing in a new DC and moving Haslett to a higher position.
I could see them bringing in a QB coach to take some responsibility off Gruden's plate.
And I could see them bring in another person in the front office (like Smith) to help with talent evaluation.

I really don't see how they could possibly justify bringing Haslett back in any capacity.
The possibility of the Redskins being a last place team AGAIN next season is extremely high. I'm not sure how you bring everyone back and avoid a complete fan revolt at the first sign of struggle.

Agreed. IF Gruden is indeed back next season, does anyone really expect us to improve that much next season?
And if they bring back Haslett, the back lash is going to be awful for Snyder.

Snyder once said his biggest mistake when he bought this team was firing Charlie Casserly. He hasn't found even close to a Charlie Casserly quality GM since. Not even close. AJ Smith ain't perfect, but it's a step in the right direction.
I would like Smith in the GM job. Not so much because I like Smith. But because it would show a personnel man is in that role, rather than a team president. Also, AJ Smith would not hide in the background and leave his coach and players out to dry like Allen has. He would do press conferences and answer questions like most GMs. Gruden, for all his faults, is having to take too much of the flak for this team's poor performance. A good GM would have been willing to step up and take some of the heat from the media. Allen....crickets.

In contrast, Gruden praised Jackson’s former teammate in Philadelphia, Jeremy Maclin.
“He’s a consistent pro, man,” Gruden said. “I love the way he plays, his approach to the football game. . . . He’s tough and it seems like whenever Philly needs a big play, third down and long or they’re trailing, Maclin seems to always show up.

God I hate Gruden. Desean is one of about six players on this entire damn roster who gives a #### about winning. And he IS the only actual playmaker we have. He's been the only bright spot this season.
If this were any normal franchise, I would bet heavily Gruden is a goner. He is beyond terrible and every next move he makes, every next sentence he blurts just makes it worse and worse. He should be fired regardless of what they do with RGIII.
But that's the Redskins.
