Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall tore his left Achilles’ tendon for the second time in five weeks, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed. Hall had surgery to repair the tendon on Thursday.

Hall suffered the initial injury against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 21, ending his 11th season in the NFL. He had surgery shortly after and had yet to begin rehab while still recovering.

Hall then re-injured himself at home.

The exact timeline for his recovery following the second surgery remains unclear. It is believed, however, that it could take another six to nine months for him to recover.

Hall, 30, had re-signed with Washington in the offseason, agreeing to a four-year, $17 million deal with $5.65 million guaranteed.

Ouch. That's rough.

Hall's base salary jumps significantly next year. Unless his rehab goes really, really well I'm wondering how likely it is he gets cut, or at least forced to restructure. Especially if the young guys keep showing promise.

How do injury settlements work, especially their impact on the cap?

If Amerson and Breeland can continue to grow, I don't see any way they bring back Hall for anything other than a vet minimum after this injury.

They'd save approximately 2.5 million in cap space if they cut him before next season. Around 2 million in dead money.

I think they just signed Hall to a new contract last off season.

And I think Achilles injuries will frequently cause a loss of speed. A double injury does not look good at all for Hall's career.

With Robert Griffin III’s return to the starting quarterback job all but certain, the question for the Redskins will shift from when will Griffin return to what kind of quarterback he’ll be when he’s back in the lineup.

Ever since Griffin has joined the team, there has been a tug-of-war between those that think he needs to tone down his running for the sake of safety as he becomes a more “traditional” quarterback and those that think his best path to success is being the same type of quarterback he’s been throughout his career. That debate was in the spotlight this preseason as Griffin appeared to struggle while making the transition to head coach Jay Gruden’s offensive scheme, which called for him to run less than he did in the Shanahan years.

Griffin gave an interview to the team’s website, his first since Gruden said he’ll start on Sunday barring any setbacks, and shared some of his thoughts on the matter.

“I’m ready to go, ready to play, get back out there with the guys and have fun. That’s what it is,” Griffin said. “God didn’t put us on this earth to be normal. So I’m not gonna go out there and try to be a normal quarterback. I’m gonna go out there and be the quarterback he’s called me to be.”

Whether he’s a “normal” quarterback or not, the Redskins need to figure out if he’s the right quarterback for them over the long term. That’s why he’ll return to the starting lineup despite Colt McCoy handling things well the last two weeks and it will be the biggest question to answer over the second half of Washington’s season.

My interpretation: There have been a lot of indications that Griffin is the one who did not want to run or be a read option QB. If so, maybe Griffin's mindset has changed.

Griffin definitely needs to be better in the pocket. But he is a dynamic athlete. The offense needs to be designed to take advantage of all of his abilities.

It will be interesting to see what happens Sunday and the coming weeks. Personally, I'll be happy to see some ZRO and even a couple designed QB runs. Seriously, I can't think of a more deadly short-yardage play than ZRO. I wonder how often that play fails to pick up positive yards?

This is not what we expected but it's certainly fair commentary. Breeland appears to be stepping up to be a legitimate starter. So Breeland's play has both made Hall somewhat expendable but also made us feel we don't want to lose him.

its the sad truth. the media loves stories like this. And especially with regard to RG3. It is what it is. Until i see more information from multiple trusted local beat reporters, i am going to be quite skeptical of this(as i generally am of any story). Just as i will at all the stories tonight that will pop up if the redskins lose that ask whether RG3 was rushed back. lol.

Yeah, several other media say it did not happen and the incident in locker room had nothing to do with RGIII, which is where this Britt girl is getting her stuff from. One thing is clear, DRAMA follows this organization everywhere regardless. I am not one that has ever been on this bandwagon, but realize that if there is always drama with this team then there is one common denominator or blame that has been there the entire time...DANIEL SNYDER. He may not be the actual source, but his way of running this organization is producing this atmosphere as it seems to follow from coach to coach and GM to GM (never really had a GM only boy wonder's, but you know what I mean).

Tracy Porter's employed for more than the vet minimum and nobody in Washington can prove on a Sunday that he even exists. Hall's miles better than Porter and should be brought back, if healthy, at more than the minimum. A team needs at least 4 good cornerbacks.

When it comes to Redskin coverage he's an absolute tool.

I don't know what to say to you guys...I've brought a lot of 'off the beaten path' stuff to the table in the past that was ultimately proven to be accurate and true, and we all acknowledge that under the Snyder regime, there are multiple times every season that, indeed, 'truth is stranger than fiction'...

...I'm just saying, based on this, not to discount or ridicule the idea that the decision to start Griffin was influenced by the front office, and not entirely, if at all, the decision of the Coaching Staff.

Wrapping this up and getting it in before he takes his first snap, I'll return later to offer more structure and defend my position if I must, but on several levels, Griffin starting is not a sound football decision that a sound football mind would make.

The only possible bright spot today is that Gruden is criticizing Haslett's defense.

“It bothers me,” Coach Jay Gruden fumed in his postgame news conference. “We had a lead. We got down. We came back to get the lead. We let them drive 80 yards to take the lead. We go back down to score and take the lead. We go down to take the lead and they come back again. Very, very, very sickening.”

Now if he'd just criticize (and change) his own playcalling the team would be better off.

The defense sucked major ### today. That's the greatest number of completely-uncovered receivers I've ever seen in one game. If the Skins were facing an experienced QB they would have given up over 50 points. Bridgewater's a rookie and struggles with deep passes, luckily for Washington. But Washington kept their own point total down as well, with stupid playcalling that had Griffin standing in the pocket all second half, with the O-line constantly being collapsed toward him. They'd run Morris and they'd take him right out to put Helu in to whiff on a block. Has an RB ever missed as many blocks as Helu has missed this year? I'd really like to know what Gruden sees out there, because it isn't what people watching the game are seeing.

Worst breakout: The Vikings hadn’t scored 20 points since September. They had averaged 12 points a game over their previous four outings. But with Washington in town, the Vikings more than doubled that mark.

Best breakout: Let me be the 4,000th person to say: The happiest Redskins player about Griffin’s return should probably be Alfred Morris. With the read-option threat back in the playbook, Morris carried 19 times for 92 yards, his highest total of the season. His previous high? Morris had 91 yards in the opener against Houston, the only previous game that Griffin completed.

Once again, to my untrained eye, Haslett doesn't make in-game changes. Against Dallas, it was good that he didn't. His pregame plan was working and he stuck with it. But, in other games, he sticks with his plan even when it's not working. It's frustrating to watch them do the same thing over and over (again, to an untrained eye) and continue to get beat.

If he hasn't been asked already, I hope Gruden is asked tomorrow about kneeling to end the first half. With 36 seconds and 2 timeouts, I find it inexcusable to take a knee.
