:tips40oz: for my 2nd baseman.Gil McDougald, the versatile 1950s Yankee who, along with Pete Rose, had the unique distinction of being selected to the All-Star team at three different positions, died Sunday at his home in Wall Township, N.J., after a long bout with prostate cancer. He was 82.McDougald played a pivotal role on eight Yankee pennant-winning teams from 1951-60, winning Rookie of the Year honors in 1951 when he hit .306 with 14 homers and 63 RBI. He was named to the All-Star team five times, as a third baseman in 1952, a shortstop in 1957 and a second baseman in 1958. But as fine an all-around player as McDougald was, hitting .276 during a 10-year career all with the Yankees, it was his fate to be remembered for hitting a line drive that struck Indians pitcher Herb Score in the right eye on May 7, 1957. At the time, the fireballing lefthander seemed destined for a Hall of Fame career, but was never the same after the incident. He died in 2008....“Gil was one tough ballplayer,” said Whitey Ford. “He could also be hard-headed. I’ll always remember that crazy stance of his and he didn’t want to change. He was a great guy to have playing behind you. He played all of those positions and played them well.”

You can manage low PA guys either by playing with rest settings or pinch hitter hierarchies. How do you guys handle low PA guys? For example, I have Gregg Jeffries who I only have 120 PA to go with for the entire year. Does the sim take that into account when he pinch hits? Through 8 games, he has 7 PA's, and his smacking the #### out of the ball, but dont want to wear him out. If he keeps up the 7 PA in 8 games pace, he will be right around 140 PA, which I am guessing is slightly too many. I remember reading from one of y'all that we can get away with maybe 10% over their PA/162? Am I remembering that correctly?
Because I went batters early, and by the time I started going after starting pitching, all the good SPs over 240 IP or so were gone. Figured a patchwork of four 200-220 IP guys + two half-season SPs would be a fine five-man rotation. I'm not one that likes to use the bullpen for 4+ IP every game ... but ITF, I might end up needing to. We'll see.Why on earth would you plan on 5 starters? Oops.
Ready if you are.gonna take leisurely lunch and be available till around 2.30 for YOUSIMLIVE
I have about an hour.Anyone down for a game?
Make that 142On pace to lose 127 games
brutal. oso novato now 1-4 in one-run games. and it's a different guy blowing it each time. Some awful bullpen work in the 3 game series between oso diablo and I.Game 1, was down 3-1 going into the 9th. I scored 2 runs, and won in 10 innings, 4-3.Game 2, I was up 9-2 going into the bottom of the 8th. He scored 2 in the 8th, 4 in the 9th, but I was able to squeeze out a 9-8 win.Game 3, he was up 8-5 going into the 9th. I scored 5 in the top of the 9th. He threatened in the bottom and scored one run, but I won 10-9.
You're allowed to do this, but performance suffers. Really bad idea to go with tired pitchers. What's the deal with putting players in for the sim live stuff when they are tired and their % is sub par?
First number is fatigue going into the next game, second number is fatigue going into the game after the next game. Also, what's the deal with a pitcher having 2 separate % numbers? One is in blue, the other in green.
I have a little sheet of pitch counts for my pitchers based on IP/G. I have a max per game and almost always stay under the max. My top relievers I try and keep until needed situations and often will use them for one batter and get them out. In tight games, two of them have 2+ inning max pitch counts based on real life IP/G. My top 3 starters are 80-100 pitch guys and then my 4th starter is a tandem between two 40 pitch guys. When at the end of their pitch counts, I only put in relievers at 100% and never go over their pitch count. So far through 41 games, my starters are all on pace to be right around their IP/162. My relievers are all under their pace aside from one who is just over. And no X, that one reliever isn't Deleon. I actually have not been using him enough. As for pitch hitters, I only have one extremely limited PA guy so I can't help you there since he is a specific situation hitter for me since he is my high OBP guy. So there isn't always a situation I need him over my regular bench guys with more power.the moops said:So how the hell are people doing sim live stuff so often?A couple bullpen arms and a couple pinch hitters are tired of mine and it is tough to play when that is the case.
Thanks. That is what I am doing, to an extent. I dont rely on game time decisions so much as next game decisions. So if a guy jumps ahead of his IP/162 or PA/162, I will sit him or play him sparingly the next game or two.I have a little sheet of pitch counts for my pitchers based on IP/G. Wish I knew why my offense sucked.Wish I knew why Fernando sucks![]()

At least you didn't give up 6 runs in the 14th inning ... my pen is awfulI've had a few extra innings games and has left me aware that I'm really under PA'ed at catcher. I'm a little short in the OF too, but it's not quite a big a deal to throw someone out in LF.Fatigue is going to play a bigger roll in this sim than I thought. One 15 inning game and I am shot for a while. It will be interesting to see what kind of line-ups/staffs we will be rolling out the last 50 games or so.
Oh I hear you. When I won the WS (especially the first time), I was jumping up and down. Cloud nine for like two days. It's not even fantasy football where I actually can make some coin. That said, the last four or five seasons where I have sucked have been draining. But we keep plugging away. Plugging away.i have an inordinate and sad amount of ego wrapped up in the fate of these pretend games. each loss bums me out; each win validates my superior skills. it's quite comical.

I knew everyone wasn't set back to 100% ... but I didn't know if there was a number on it.This is actually a harder question to answer than it seems, moops, because in most of the past sims we had such a glut of PAs and IPs that we always went into the playoffs minty fresh. I don't even think the fatigue issues were this bad in WIS VI with the $100 M cap.You get a 10% bonus when the playoffs startAnyone? What happens in the playoffs in terms of guys PA/162 and their tiredness?
