Gardenhire called him "week to week" the other day. That doesn't sound good.
 
Nice to see that the Tigers still implode in MN. Too bad we can't still blame the dome for the terrible play.

The Tigers lack of fundamentals always stick out when they play the Twins. They are first in the AL with 25 errors on the season. There were at least 3 runs yesterday that should not have scored with solid defensive play. I hope they spend some extra time taking part in drills when they get back to Detroit.

 
Nice win after the sweep & basicly 2 days of nothing that went into the books.

Lots of rookies contributing, good sign for the future.

 
I'm confused now. Is Verlander on a pitch count or what because it didn't look like it today.

Loved how they were able to start rallies with two outs today. That has been a rare occurrence in past years. Jackson and Damon with solid games again, and Cabrera is well, Cabrera.

 
Imagine a Tiger team that could get a runner home from third with less than two outs. Imagine...

 
CF Austin Jackson notched his 16th multi-hit game of the season Sunday, collecting a pair of singles to left and scoring twice. Jackson has hit safely in 27 of 30 career games, the best start by a Tigers rookie since 1B Dale Alexander did the same in his first 30 games in 1929. Jackson struck out on a breaking ball in the ninth with two men on and has sharply reduced his strikeout rate over the last two weeks. Jackson takes a 10-game hitting streak into Monday's game against the New York Yankees.

I hope Jackson has a little extra for the Yankees starting tonight

Yea it will be interesting to see how far Jackson falls when he does. His BABIP is absurd - like .540. But, as you noted, he has cut down his strikeouts dramatically.It will be interesting to see what happens to him.
 
One day we are going to look back and wonder how in THE hell did Brandon Inge spend 10 years as the Tigers' thirdbaseman.

 
Tiger bullpen is lights out. If the Tigers don't abuse their bullpen to much, Detroit is in for a great year. Great game for ESPN to broadcast on Monday night also.

 
Since Valverde was on a national game against the Yankees, it looks like everyone is taking notice of his over the top antics this morning.

Porcello (3-3) had his finest outing of the season, as he scattered four hits, struck out two and walked three. The 21-year-old righty had pitched to a 7.50 earned run average through his first six starts. WOW, feed him everyday what ever he ate today.

Now give the Yankees the broom treatment tonight on ESPN baseball GO TIGERS

Twins beat the White Sox today and if the Tigers SWEEP the Yankees it doesn't get any better :thumbdown:

Game four of the series is tomorrow at 1 with Verlander going against Sabathia. A sweep is going to be hard (perhaps impossible) to come by.But I'll be there tomorrow regardless, if they play, getting my first chance to boo A-Rod.

BB is doing a nice job in the outfield. It is tough to say we are even missing Guillen right now. Too bad he can't play third.

 
What to make of Boesch? Pretty unreal. I did not think he could keep it up this long. You'd think opposing pitchers wouldn't throw him any strikes.

I guess they ride it out as long as possible.

 
Good to see a youth movement that doesn't keep you from winning games.

1st time since 1999 the yanks were shut out twice in a series...

Very pleasantly surprised that they took 3 of 4 from the Yanks. With the way the bullpen is throwing, all they need is some consistent starting pitching. They certainly got that this series.Great series. Now lets keep it up versus Boston!

His first 3 at bats to day were unreal.
 
Great game! Attendance was light and it was pretty chilly, but the fact that it stayed dry and the Tigers put it to the Yankees made for a great afternoon. Now I'm back in Ann Arbor to work on a group project. I should be downtown still getting drunk.

No sweep, but 3 out 4 against the Yankees is like a sweep against most teams.And thanks Tigers for beating up the Yankees just in time for their next series against the TWINS, after the Yankees vs Twins series the Tigers should be in first place.

Tigers reportedly calling up Triple-A outfielder Casper Wells

The Tigers appear to be on the verge of calling up outfielder outfielder Casper Wells from Triple-A Toledo, according to a tweet from Mud Hens reliever Robbie Weinhardt.

“Congrats to my brother @upstateballer getting the call up to Detroit,” Weinhardt tweeted at 10 p.m. Thursday. The tweet has since been removed.

Wells confirmed the move to CBS 6 Sports Director Doug Sherman Friday morning. He said he was informed by Toledo Mud Hens manager Larry Parrish on Thursday night.

Wells -- flying from Durham, NC to Detroit -- will reportedly be in uniform when the Tigers host the Boston Red Sox at 7:05 p.m. tonight.

"I was pretty much in shock," he told CBS 6 on the phone from the airport. "I told my dad [Casper Wells, Sr.] and he said 'what?' We're all in shock."

The move has not been made official and MLB.com’s Jason Beck reports the Tigers have not confirmed a roster move is forthcoming.

The addition of Wells would return Detroit's roster to 12 pitchers and 13 position players. The Tigers current 25-man roster consists of 12 position players, including five outfielders – two of which are routinely used at designated hitter.

The right-handed outfielder would provide Tigers manager Jim Leyland with more lineup flexibility. As Beck notes, Detroit's lineup Thursday included two left-handed hitters -- Brennan Boesch and Johnny Damon -- against Yankees left-handed ace C.C. Sabathia.

The addition of Wells likely means reliever Alfredo Figaro, who was recalled on Wednesday, will be optioned to Toledo. Figaro was available out of the bullpen the past three games and was expected to make a spot start Sunday after Tuesday’s rainout pushed Rick Porcello’s scheduled start back a day.

Figaro made his lone appearance in the nightcap of Wednesday’s doubleheader, giving up two runs and three hits in 2/3 of an inning.

Leyland told Beck he doesn’t want to start Porcello or Jeremy Bonderman on three days' rest. Their unavailability to pitch on short rest Sunday could open the door for right-handed starter Armando Galarraga. That be the case, Wells’ trip to Detroit might not last through the weekend series.

The Tigers likely would have recalled Galarraga on Wednesday, after optioning Ryan Raburn to Triple-A, but Galarraga pitched six innings in Toledo the previous night. Unlike Figaro, Galarraga would not have been available out of the Tigers’ bullpen for Wednesday’s day-night doubleheader.

Galarraga is tentatively scheduled to make a start on Sunday in Toledo, but it’s possible the 28-year-old could be recalled to make a spot start in Detroit’s series finale against Boston.

Raburn was optioned to Wednesday and cannot be recalled until 10 days after being sent down, which likely resulted in Wells reportedly being called up Thursday. Raburn will be eligible to rejoin the Tigers in next weekend's three-game series against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.

Wells -- named by Baseball America as the Tigers' "Best Outfield Arm" -- said his parents are in the process of trying to get to Detroit.

"Just get a one-way ticket out there and I'll worry about getting you back," he told CBS 6.

One scenario I saw this morning had Wells called up just for today and tomorrow since Leyland wants the extra position player for some reason. Then he is sent right back down on Sunday for Galarraga. Then on Monday Galarraga may be sent back down for a different position player, perhaps Wilkin.Interesting and messy, and burning a lot of options, but all of these guys would probably get called up at some point this year anyway.
 
Figaro sent down per Twitter. If they are going to call up a P to start Sunday then I would guess that D-Train's sinus infection must be really bad.

Why not put him on the 15 day DL? If he is for sure missing 2 starts they could just push back his third start and free up a roster spot.

Didn't get to see Leyland's comments. Guillen to play 2nd? Has to be the thinking, yes? I didn't think that was an option as I don't believe he's ever played the position. Sizemore was average at best, I suppose the fall-off shouldn't be enormous. If that's what the plan is. Jackson - Damon - Ordonez - Cabrera - Boesch - Guillen looks pretty good to me. Boesch is out of his mind right now.
 
So Armando going into the rotation? Brad thomas? Eddie bonine? throw in dontrelle and yikes the back of that rotation is scary.

Bullpen and top of the order have to carry them.
