She is one of my favorite actresses and she has been nominated for 3 Oscars, but nothing jumps out at me.

I would probably go with Mary Ann Singleton or Meryl from the Truman Show

Only thing I would have been able to name off the top of my head is Frasier Crane's matchmaker then girlfriend.

The first thing I think of when I see her face is Congo, and wonder why she ever agreed to do that.  I'm among the easiest to entertain on the planet, movie wise, but that was the worst movie I have ever seen.

I agree the movie sucked donkey balls, but the book was fantastic. Would love to see a remake

It was indeed pretty bad.

I voted Primal Fear but I most enjoyed her in The Mothman Prophecies (also with Gere).

I ####### love Congo.

ugly. woman. ugly. woman.

the ####### best

but to the op... I think it's a testament to her abilities that I  think of almost all of her roles as her best/iconic. but having to pick... the savages and tales of the city, I guess are at the top for me. saw her on stage a couple of times too- she's able to embody the characters so well, you forget you're watching her.

Saw her in that trial movie in the 90s that brokeout Edward Norton as a psycho and was writing a tough-but-vulnerable professional woman movie character at the time, so i rewatched her scenes and wrote what i thought she'd say in my piece and it helped a bunch, so that and the movie where she poses naked for an artist, which i've watched - scene only - about a hundred times.

was impressed with her linneys* when I saw her on stage.

*I'm talking about her boobs

Primal Fear is the trial movie. But which one does she pose nude in?

I voted for The Big C.

They were pretty cool boobs in the one scene I saw with her topless. I can't remember which movie it was. But maybe her boobs were cool because they were attached to Linney, who is really cute.

I'm glad we got around to talking about her neat boobs.

She shows bush and bobs in Maze.  She shows her tots again in Love Actually.  That's her signature role, IMO.  She was really good in that.

She was wasted in Sully.  All she did was squawk in the phone "Sully....SULLY?  SULLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYY".   Probably the easiest paycheck she's ever cashed.

I really believed she was naked in Maze - that takes talent. She was the only good thing in Love Actually and would have been if she never had boobs at all.

She could have shown her uterus and it wouldn't have made that movie any better.  That thing sucked out loud.  Remember BK taking an absolute beating on their merch deal over that.
Can't really think of that many movies which could be improved by added uterus. Downhill Racer, maybe? The Hours? Some of the Pixar for sure...

Definitely knew the name but if you put a gun to my head I'm not sure I could have named anything that she has been in.*

*boobs

Caught some of Primal Fear earlier and she really does a great job in that one. That is one those roles you see all the time that could have been doable with a vanilla performance, but she was excellent.  The fact that she had great chemistry with Gere helped a lot.

And Tim Curry had the worst fake accent of any film ever. Yes, including Kevin Costner in Robin Hood.

Picked The Truman Show. She was awesome in that part, playing to the camera, but barely holding her sanity together.  That movie would never have been as good without her.

Good call.  Forgot about that.
