One Hundred Pushups (1 Viewer)

I have a hard time believing that someone who only has a max of 10-20 initially will be able to do 100 in 6 weeks. We'll see.
Yeah. I'm in the mid 40s now. I'll be surprised if I get much past 60.
Don't be. When you can make around 40, it really doesn't take long to reach 70. Reaching 100 is an other story but I believe within two weeks you'll be able to do 70.
Says the 17 year old. Your body changes over the years. It takes a lot more work to accomplish something at 35 or 40 than it does as a teenager.
Yeah, but I think Worm is under 30. And honestly, last year I went from like 45 to 70 in 2 weeks just by doing them every day. It goes up pretty fast, maybe not that fast for you but it goes fast, believe me.

I made it through the first day but it will definitely be challenging as the numbers start increasing. If we can't make our quotas for a day, do we just repeat the day next time, or do we have to start the entire week over?

just repeat the day next time until you hit quota.

I'm already in for reasons stated earlier but I still have doubts I'll get to 100. When I maxed out I was pretty surprised but I couldn't have lifted a pillow afterwards and I'm in the gym 5 days a week. I'm interested to see how this turns out. I did my reps last night and it does pump you up I think because of the time in between sets. I usually did sets of 30-35 but not all at once, I'd do a set and maybe not another one for an ohur or so. I'd do 4 sets by nights end but it was spread over a few hours. This requires you to do them all within about a half hour or short period.

Figured I'd do this since I want to get some upper body strength... Started it on Sunday (6/29)

Size: 5'7" and 130 lbs.

Initial Test: 15

Day 1 (6/29): 10/10/8/6/10 (44)

Day 2 (7/1): 12/12/10/10/10 (54)

Wow... just did Day 2, Week 1. After breezing through Day 1 at 10-10-8-6-20, I was feeling pretty good about myself.

Flash forward to today: 12-12-10-10-15... and I only got to 15 on the last one because it was the number I stubbornly put in my head when I started hurting on my 1st 10.

Totally didn't expect to be tested in Week 1.

Anyways, random side note. I asked my both my girlfriend and my mother how many pushes they each could do. The results were incredibly surprising. Neither of them ever does any upper body work, walking and elliptical being their favorite pastimes. The results were shocking:

Girlfriend: Max 2

Mom: Max 0 (literally couldn't get off the floor)

Looks like a good program. I'll do the initial test tonight after my softball game, then start Day 1 tomorrow..

I'm in. I just came across this thread and did 30 of 'em with no warmup. I'll use that as my starting point but I think I could have hit 40. I'm 49 yrs old so I think I'm in the lead for pushups per year of age :lmao:

fyi....this program has nothing to do with adding up your reps like you're stating above. The 100 pushup goal is doing them all in one take by the end of the program.

10/10/8/6/8

You know, our bodies function rather well without this crap. What am I, an olympic athlete or something? I stand in court or sit at a desk all day for goodness sake.

Gawd my shoulders hurt.

I felt like I had rotator cuff surgery 3 times on each shoulder  That was just from the initial.Did the day 1, no soreness so it gets better

Well, I take your 30 and double it young man! 60 pushups (age 52). But then again, I added a pushup/situp routine about three years ago, averaging about 450-500/week (usually in reps of 30-40).

 Did day 1 yesterday and my whole shoulder/chest area is so sore. I do moderate lifting at work at I wanted to scream everytime I exerted myself. Day 2 is going to be really bad. I'm just trying to get through until Sat and Sun to have 2 days off in a row

Day 1

10/10/7/7/11 (45) (did it from memory and didn't realize it should have been 10/10/8/6/max)

Day 1 was Monday, so tomorrow is day 2.

Disclaimer: I had coincidentally started doing pushups about 2 weeks earlier for the first time in years and was doingn 25 every 2-3 days...

 Need to jump into this game.

Also, do they make a 100 sit ups routine, because I need some belly work lately.

Did the test last night - 31

39 yrs

5'11"

194 lbs

Might do Day 1 for kicks today, but I'll probably start over next Monday so I get on a MWF schedule.

My test was 24.

Day 1 I did the whole thing but struggled to get to the (max at least 7).

PLayed golf yesterday that was bad - today I hurt a lot and it's day 2 today

That's it. Game on. I'm skipping a day break between my initial test and Day 1, which I'll do at noon today. I expect to catch up to you pretty quickly

I think trying your max on the initial test to the point of collapsing is a bad way to start.

If you haven't done ANY exercise in a long time, you're going to be pretty sore for the next 2-3 days if not longer. Start your day two whenever your not sore, and then you should be able to roll along.

A general rule of thumb I use is not to work out if the muscle is sore to the touch.

Ok all the day 2 stuff is freakin me out. How am I supposed to enjoy good chinese food for dinner knowing that those things hurt later? C'mon people.

On the flip side, just had my latest blood panel results read. Cholesterol is up 20 points from 8 months ago. Not good. Unless I want my blood to turn into yogurt.

It's not so much that the sequence is super hard. It's that it hurts because a lot of us are still sore from the Initial Test/Day One.

And I'm not? Seriously. It's a good thing the keyboard pull out on my computer here is lower then the actual desk or I'm not typing. Taking a shower this morning was probably as much torture as John McCain suffered. Shoulders aren't supposed to hurt like this unless you are in a Lethal Weapon movie.

Must be all that soda.

:goodposting:I'm almost 45 and haven't worked out much in the last year (almost not at all) and while a little sore I'm ready to go. But usually when I'm starting up at working out again it's the second day that's worst so we'll see how tomorrow goes.

Did the initial test last night, got 17 (already added myself to the sheet). I'll do Day 1 tonight.

This is a good challenge, and I hope everyone sticks with it.

Not quite the commitment of a BFL challenge or losing 20 lbs or anything like that...this is pretty accessible and convenient. It will be cool to see the progress everyone has made at the end of 6 weeks. I don't know how many will actually hit 100, but if someone goes from 15 to 65 in 6 weeks, that definitely would not be a failure.

Are we planning on videoing and posting the final test?

In. I've been wanting to get even more buff than I already am. I have been doing some pushups for a couple weeks as it is, but I've kind of fallen off. I'm guessing my initial test will be around 30 or 40. Will post tomorrow.

Age: 31

6'1 / 205

Anyone have that "perfect push-up" gizmo? I've dealt with a partially torn tendon in my shoulder for years and it's always kept me from doing anything but free weights when working chest. I didn't have much of a problem doing the first 4 stages last night...but after doing a couple in the max stage I had to stop.

edit: I did search for my question and it pulled up two threads...but it was people asking the same question and no one had actually tried them.

:lmao: will have to wait on D2 til then.

D2 down, 12/12/10/10/10

Not working out for a few years catches up. Still a bit sore, but not bad. I'm shocked at the ab workout these give... I'm more sore in the abs than the chest/arms.

I'm as skinny as an Ethiopian orphan but I do 50 pushups each morning. I don't think 100 would be overly difficult.
I used to do 100 every morning. Started with 40, went to 50, then 60, then just said f it and went to 100/ Eventually got sick of waking up early and now I don't do squat.

I'm in...did day 1 on Monday and I'm soooo dreading day 2 tonight. I'm in such bad shape that I wasn't even sore yesterday, but today my chest is on fire. I've got a feeling I might struggle a bit tonight.

Week 5, Day 3 is where the real fun begins.

8 sets...rest time between sets gets cut to 30 seconds.
