Online poker is back in the US, a start? (1 Viewer)

You must hate Sheldon Adelson, then. I assume you will also be against his bought and paid for GOP Presidential nominee in 2016. Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, Chris Christie and John Kasich are all in Vegas sucking his toes for money.
I haven't really spent any time considering Sheldon Anderson. If he's lobbying to keep gambling and online gambling illegal, then I disagree with his views. I don't particularly know anything about the views regarding gambling's legality held by Jeb Bush, Scott Walker, or John Kasich. I do know that Chris Christie has fought pretty hard to expand legalized gambling within the state of New Jersey. I applaud him for that effort.

Do you think Christie will hold the same views if he accepts $100 million plus from Adelson in the 2016 Presidential race like Newt Gingrich did in 2012?

I don't know. If he does change his views, I imagine it would be pretty difficult for him to deflect campaign attacks of being a flip-flopper, given that the expansion of legalized gambling under his administration is pretty well documented.

Even if we assume that he would be willing to change his views based on campaign contributions, I suspect his campaign team knows that it would be quite difficult to mount a successful defense against flip-flop attacks. They might well conclude that the negative political repercussions of flip-flopping outweigh the benefits of the money.

I do know that it's pretty disingenuous of you to constantly attack GOP politicians for sucking up to potential campaign contributors, but ignore that Democrat politicians do the same thing. It is particularly disingenuous to do so while claiming to be an "independent".

PPA's response to the new bill

The backer of the efforts to ban online poker is Sheldon Adelson, CEO of the Venetian Casino.

Bill sponsors:
muny_weekly.jpg
Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC)

Congressman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT)

cosponsored by:

Senators

Dianne Feinstein (D-CA)

Mike Lee (R-UT)

Kelly Ayotte (R-NH)

Representatives

Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI)

Jim Matheson (D-UT)

Lamar Smith (R-TX)

Jim Jordan (R-OH)

Trent Franks (R-AZ)

George Holding (R-NC)

Frank Wolf (R-VA)

James Lankford (R-OK)

Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO)

Also in favor of a ban:

Governors

Rick Perry (R-TX)

Nikki Haley (R-SC)

Bobby Jindal (R-LA)

People who have come out against it:

Democratic Governors Association

Peter Shumlin (D-VT)

Maggie Hassan (D-NH)

Congressman Joe Barton (R-TX)

Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ)

Senators Dean Heller (R-NV) and House Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) support online poker while but also are in favor of expanding the Wire Act to include non-poker wagering activities.

This Sheldon Adelson guy really sucks.

They're putting the finishing touches on YouTeller as we speak. Once that's up and running all will be well again. If there was only a way to play online until then. oh, hold on, just flopped an open ended SF draw in this $33 double up.

Just being a devil's advocate here: Is is Adelson who sucks? I mean, he's only doing what is in his company's best interest (assuming, of course, it is in his financial best interest to stop online gaming). Aren't the ones who suck here really the politicians? They are supposed to do what is "best" for the country (or at least, their district). In particular, the R's suck because they are theoretically the proponents of the Free Market. And D's suck because they are theoretically proponents of liberal "social policies." Adelson is just trying to make (keep) a buck or two bazillion.

http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2014/02/sheldon-adelson-internet-jihad-103461.html

Adelson has said he will spend whatever it takes— he is worth an estimated $37 billion and his earnings dwarf those of all other gaming companies—embarking last fall on what a rival calls a “jihad” to stop Internet wagering and threatening to use his ample political muscle as the country’s largest GOP donor to stop what many think is unstoppable.
if he said he'll spend "whatever it takes" to stop it, not sure he's that concerned about making money.

Is it ever is legalized again, how many of you think you'll go back to playing? As Nipsey mentioned above, you can still play. I put a little money in to Carbon Poker using a prepaid Visa a few weeks ago. It was easy. But within a week, I cashed out. I quickly realized it had jumped the shark for me. I was shocked, because I used to LOVE playing online. But after the long, long layoff, the lack of site variety, lack of bonuses and rakeback, etc, it just didn't hold my interest in the least. I wonder if I am an anomaly,or if others will feel the same way? I guess for me, the government already got what they wanted.

Yep but we only need one of them to keel over and die. Then the rest will look for $ elsewhere.

anyone get their money back from Full Tilt yet?
Got an e-mail about this from some law firm that is apparently in charge of distributing the money for the government. In order to get your money back you have to give them your bank account routing information and let them direct deposit it. Mind you, this isn't the actual government which would be bad enough but some law firm in NY that you've never heard of. You cannot get a check or debit card sent. The only option is giving them your bank account information. Sorry, I don't need the few hundred that much.

I think if it were legalized you would see companies pour a ton of money into advertising and promotions, which would entice many new and/or below average players to get into it. I don't think it would be as lucrative as 2003 but would definitely be a huge improvement over the action going on today.

If fully legalized I think its a potential feeding frenzy for the serious players. Given the chance to multitable 20 tables at the 0.50 -1.00 stakes I'm all over it again. I really miss my second income.

This was never me. I probably played two or three tables to clear a bonus. But I was in it for enjoyment as much as the money. I certainly wouldn't call it a second income, though there were some good years. If I'm not enjoying it, I'm not going to be playing. It was just a hobby.

if it was open to more players and was easier for people to deposit money, the games would be easier to beat. plus there's be a lot more promotions trying to lure people in.

hags, buddy. remember to find the biggest guy the first day you get there and kick his ###.

Signed up for Poker Host recently and they promptly asked for copies of front/back of my credit card, front of DL or passport, and one utility bill. Not sure if they are legit, but I'm willing to let my fifty go into the ether as a bad lesson learned rather than give them the main elements of a nice ID theft.

That being said the game has completely changed in the past 4 years. You are basically playing against computers 50% of the time.

Every now and again I'll deposit $300 and try and run it up and cash out for a quick score.

Really that many bots playing?

What bothered me were all the programs players used in conjunction with the game that helped them get notes/stats on players. I know it's technically not cheating but it definitely gave them an advantage. It made it all much lamer than playing against people in person.

Ref, do you play much live at the casinos?

I saw the Isle in Pompano Beach now has the MAP poker game where you're playing two hands at once at the same table with two dealers and two sets of decks. I might check it out one of these days.

Got an email yesterday also. It's not for the full amount I'm owed, slightly less than half, but I had long ago written it off as a sunk cost.

Tons of Bots

The Huds are why I like Bovada.

Yes I do. I've been at the Isle since they installed the MAP tables but haven't had the pleasure as of yet. Seems like a gimmick but I'm sure I'll give it a shot soon.

Looks like global poker found a loophole for real money play.  They even take paypal.

No huds or hand histories either.

Rules -- thanks for the PSA Cav.  I'm on right now, like 5 mins after registering, playing NL cash games.  Totally rules.  Has to be almost 10 years since I did this.

You guys just dump your money into anything? The same guy running that site is probably sending email scams to your Aunt tonight.

Someone explain this to me.  How do their gold coins convert to cash?  I put in $500, which I think bought me $250k in their goofy gold coins.  I'm at about 30 million gold coins now.  How much money do I have here???
