OSCARS - 88th. Leo finally. Spotlight = best movie. (1 Viewer)

Maybe they do this already (and the argument is they shouldn't have to), but I am surprised more people with money and influence like the Smiths and Lees of the movie world don't have scholarships and maybe even their own company set up to promote more African Americans getting their scripts, movies, and ideas out there more.

Like others have said, I haven't seen all the movies of the past year, so I comment intelligently on if they deserved a nomination or not. Let's please not make it so the Academy has to have their version of the Rooney Rule.

Coming out of last year, looked at the past ten years of the Academy acting categories

200 nominees, 40 winners

22 black nominees, 7 black winners.

So were nominated and awarded at a rate commiserate or higher than their population profile

1/10 of the nominees were black

Saw Spotlight. Excellent, well made movie. The ending was pretty much perfectly handled. Surprised Michael Keaton didn't get a nom.

How they determine the "best" movie who knows.

Top 10 of year:

  1. Ex Machina
  2. The Big Short
  3. Mad Max:  Fury Road
  4. Brooklyn
  5. Spotlight
  6. Straight Out of Compton
  7. Bridge of Spies
  8. The Revenant
  9. It Follows
  10. Magic Mike XXL
Just missed:

Star Wars:  The Force Awakens, The Kingsman, The End of the Tour, Steve Jobs and Danny Collins.

Haven't posted in here since I saw it. Room is the only movie anyone will talk about from this year in five and ten years.   It's clearly the best picture. If oscar bait spotlight and three hours of Leo grunting and other mental masturbation wins it's a joke.   Big short I could live with for livening of borking material into a compelling punchy story.

But out room is on another level.

First half of Room is riveting.  Second half not so much.

They should really go back to 5 noms. Nothing good has come of broadening the field and it cheapens the big rub you used to get of being a nominee. People used to make point of seeing all five films but now do you really need to run out and see a film like the Room when it has no chance of winning?
:lmao:   nothing like being reminded you are an idiot!  To save face and correct myself, DO run out and see Room. DO NOT WATCH ANY TRAILERS!!

Overall The Academy has done a piss poor job of selecting Best Picture winners this decade. The Artist, Birdman and 12 Years A Slave were all bad choices. I don't expect to always agree with them, but this has been ridiculous.

Christ. Theron is still so hot she makes Blount look like a lazy eyed troll who lives on Fraggke Rock. And I think Blount is usually smoking.

That McKay guy that wrote and directed The Big Short has had a very interesting career, wouldn't have thought he would be winning Oscars. His previous movies were Anchorman 1 and 2, Stepbrothers, Talledega Nights and The Other Guys.

Umm Sarah Silverman just went in on the misogyny of the James Bond movies. Did she go rogue or did they know she was gonna do that?

We are smack dab in the dead zone here.  They come out with some decent awards...screenplay (both categories), Supporting Actress but now we are just in the #### nobody gives a flying #### about
