I blame the black stormtrooper.
I blame the black stormtrooper.
just wanted to say...
DiCaprio, Redmayne, Fassbender, Damon and Cranston is a phenomenal line-up for Best Actor.
That's with players like Hanks, Will Smith, Carrell and maybe Keaton watching from the side.
When he told Leo he gets a great part every year, it made for a very awkward moment. He had many and the monologue wasn't supposed to be about that, it was supposed to make people laugh. If he wanted to do a straight editorial or opinion piece, there are other avenues for that. I'm not saying what Rock said isn't actually true and I have always been a fan but I felt he really bombed when this wa a moment to shine.Chris Rock calling "Hollywood" (i.e. Everyone in the room) out as racists right to their faces made for a pretty awkward opening here.

Neither was Mad Max. But both looked and sounded cool.It wasn't really a good movie.
But you are so wrong about Mad Max, that was an amazing film on a big screen with amazing sound and yes 3-D was the way to see that film. I never ever ever liked any 3-D film until I saw Mad Max. The story, cinematography, EFX, it all came together, quite shocked more folks didn't love it.Neither was Mad Max. But both looked and sounded cool.
I'm just saying that movies are for the entertainment of many and the enlightenment of few. I think the Academy and self-important thespians forget that.

Maybe it's time to turn to a guy like say John Oliver who really isn't afraid to piss folks off or maybe Ricky Gervais needs to be expanded beyond the Golden Globes, like him or not he says funny stuff.
I wanted to laugh at my whiteness, take my licks sort of speak but Rock just didn't deliver. So much he could have chosen. I don't think he will be hosting again soon. Ellen had a lot more funny moments when she hosted.

I was just coming in here to post something similar. Has anyone seen this? Is it that good? I don't recall seeing a FFA thread for it...I have to be completely honest...before last night I'd never even heard of Spotlight. Guess I didn't pay much attention to movies this year.
Lot of angry white people in here.
Smack, MOP - your award show will be back to being non-funny about other issues next year.
Yes. And yes.I was just coming in here to post something similar. Has anyone seen this? Is it that good? I don't recall seeing a FFA thread for it...
Stallone wasn't nominated for Best Actor.Did Stallone receive the backlash for racial outcry of equality? Maybe winning an award in Creed for best actor was just too much when it should go to Apollo Jr...
Stallone was a victim of racial backlash.

you're right the show was funny and poignant and made a great social statement and things will change. Would have been great to see Stallone go full Kanye and repeat the T&C line of...Stallone wasn't nominated for Best Actor.
The fact that he wasn't even nominated for Tango & Cash is the biggest failure of the Academy
When I saw him in the pre show, I had no idea who it was until they interviewed him and said who he was.Hey, if all this got Lou Gossett a giftbag, It's ok with me.
It was a chase film and a GD great one at that.If you liked the story of Mad Max...You saw the wrong film.
Andy needed the story a bit more unpacked for him.It was a chase film and a GD great one at that.
I was ready for some good white jokes. I enjoy comedians who point out our faults like Dave Chapelle about 15 years ago. I wanted him to make fun of us but the jokes were not funny. I don't know a lot of folks black or white who laughed a lot. Just keepin it real. If you enjoyed last night, good for you. I got boored halfway thru and when Stallone was upset I fogged out.Lot of angry white people in here.

I didn't really watch other than a few minutes. The monologue was spot on and good though.I was ready for some good white jokes. Spotlight winning 2 awards all night including best film, no Oscar for Stallone or Miller for that matter...Mad Max sweeps the first half of the show and then they give Best Director to the same guy who won for Birdman last year...WTF?! I get it and he is a good director but c'mon, that guy will be nominated many more times. Miller is well into his 70s/80s at this point. Bad year for films overall, just give him the award at this point.
What is the seriousness of some people not getting nominated for awards?I thought Rock did a good job of balancing the seriousness of the topic with making fun about it![]()

That's simply not true and he has proven with a good script and some direction he can do some great work. Copland was a really good film. First Blood was not as EFX driven as II, III, and IV, it has some great scenes like when he breaks down at the end of the film. He's the worst actor of all time,
In the last 15 years the PC police have really nudered Hollywood. It used to mean something, now the Oscars is used as a platform for everything I go to the movies to escape.Oscars
Serious business

Well for the industry it seems like it's pretty serious. And the show I was watching was about the industry. Doesn't really matter to me, but it seems to matter a lot to themWhat is the seriousness of some people not getting nominated for awards?
I watched it last night and I thought it was very well done. I grew up Irish Catholic with most of my extended family living in Providence Rhode Island, and the rest spread from Boston South. Even as kids in the 80's it was common knowledge that many of the priests were didlers. Luckily, my family was very overprotective and not very trusting, so my cousins and I were not allowed anywhere near priests (or any church officials) as kids.I was just coming in here to post something similar. I did not know that Kevin Hart was a midget.Oh my god will they please nominate some black people next year so someone can talk about something else.
I didn't feel like looking it up as I was hitting the peace pipe and thanks. You professional editors never miss a beat. Too bad you never have much original thought. I can pay someone to edit, but no one can think like I doNudered![]()
Despite her claim last night, I have not slept with Sara Silverman.Sara Silverman? She wasn't talked about much, she had the same amount of time CK did but her jokes were not funny although I appreciated the outside the box thinking she had. But again another comedian who fell flat.
Was Amy Schumer that busy? She had a hit movie last year and overall she earned a spot on stage last night telling jokes IMO. Louis CK has had some credible work the last couple years, truthfully a guy as talented as he is in comedy usually is surprisingly good in more serious roles, not sure why that is exactly.
Oh, and DiCaprio is as overrated an actor as Prince is musician.

I don't think we're allowed to fawn over Kate Upton anymore. :(
