Otis fad diet thread — yoga, fasting, and kevzilla walking on🚶‍♂️ (1 Viewer)

Trying to figure out dinner.  Thus far my intake has consisted of 1/2 a deer cube steak wrapped in bacon with cream cheese and jalapeño in the center.  Maybe 150 calories.  Had to make up for a splurge yesterday.

Workout was a 7 mile, 89 min run followed by 30 minutes of lifting, 10 minutes stretching, and then a mile speed walk on the treadmill.

For those saying muscle loss would be an issue on a calorie deficit, 225 went up 4 times yesterday on the bench.  That was my max 4 weeks ago.   :excited:  Still several months from being able to do a pull up.  :bag:
Solid bench bro.  You're right though, the pullup really is a good overall indicator of strength to weight ratio.  Even "heavier" guys who lift should be able rep out 8 - 10.  Keep working.

Another TMI moment, reader beware.  As mentioned I've been eating very clean - honestly I haven't eaten this well for an entire month in my adult life.  Well, my morning constitutional has smelled like death the past few days.  Am I dying or is impacted fecal matter dislodging from my colon? Either way -  :X

Crack a window?

Beyond frustrated. Despite 7 days below 1600 calories one of which was below 1000 plus 5 days working out I lost a whopping .5 lb. Decided to weigh myself again this morning after another great day and tough boot camp workout and exactly the same. I must have the slowest metabolism on the planet.

236.2 This morning, have a good couple days then shoot myself in the foot. Thinking about no booze for February......have most of you guys cut out the alcohol?

@Sand
Yesterday I had a protein shake for breakfast... did a 3 mile hill run, then 30 minutes in the sauna in the afternoon... then had 4 IPAs for dinner. A net 300 calorie day.

Keep at it shady - everybody is different.  Just remember that good habits are good in and of themselves and while it helps get to a weight goal it's benefiting you either way.  You got this!

Doing pretty well a few days into hotel living. Breakfasts have been "bad" in the sense that in eating them and usually don't. This morning had a small Raisin Bran, eggs and a couple sausage links. Some mornings I just have the oatmeal.

But I've been making healthy choices at all the large buffet lunches and dinners and avoiding snacks. Keep walking past the donuts at the breakfast buffet (quickly, don't wanna stop and loiter for too long); had just one red stripe yesterday; for my bedtime snack I passed up all the cakes and cookies and had a beef jerky. When I'm hungry in the middle of the day I avoid the junk and grab a protein granola bar.

It's not perfect.  And maybe I'm not losing.  Or maybe I am, but either way, I'm exercising restraint and trying to set up to dive right back in without a hitch when I land home soon.

+0.2lbs on the week.

Rough week catering to a boozehound buddy who got dropped by his live-in GF of 3 years. When one of your best buddies calls you in shock saying he needs a beer, you go though... you don't turn down a shot, and you don't leave the bar until he's ready. Back on the wagon hard this week, but I'm guessing that week ####ed me on my near term goal of 230 for superbowl sunday. Now just trying to get close.

But you still lost weight!  Many people struggle to lose any weight at all or have already quit their NYs resolution to lose weight.  You are not quitting and are probably adding some muscle.  Stick with it and think long-term.  Think about where you will be on June 1.  Or even go farther out and think about Jan 1 2018.

Good luck.

Friends and family are important.  We will give you a pass this time mostly due to your fantastic knowledge of bourbon.

I wouldn't say "cut out", but definitely GREATLY reduced. Mostly replaced with the GatorDietTM. I definitely miss beer at times, but I dont miss the added calories, bad decisions that often follow, and that crappy morning after feeling. Ill be back at it again once it gets warm though.  :banned:

I've always felt, and generally brocience backs this, that the booze calories don't count as much.  I have some doubts now at least from my personal experience that this is the case.

I've gone very light to dry in the past and had no real changes, so I'm willing to think it was just a combo of having lots of time in the gym and less time to eat.

I buy into this as well. With the amount of beer calories I used to consume, along with food, I should have been morbidly obese. It caused other problems but weight gain relative to the calorie surplus was never one of them. It did make me more sedentary though because I always felt like crap, which I think is the bigger issue with booze.

My theory is that when you binge drink you're pissing away the calories / alcohol before your body can process.

I know, its just hard seeing dudes dropping 4 lbs a week when Im doing just as well as them in the calorie deficit department.

Body fat tells a better story than raw weight, if you're working out 5 days/week then that number is going down too.  Also, 4 lbs per week is aggressive for someone not already obese.  Most studies I've read indicate 6 lbs per month is a reasonable goal, you're at 7.  No reason to be frustrated, you had a great month.  Now go do it again.

OFFICIAL WEEK 4 WEIGH-IN: (though this is only 3 Weeks for me)

Starting Weight: 212

Last Week: 203

Current Weight: 197

Lost: 6 lbs

Total Lost: 15 lbs

Total % Lost: 7.1%

I'm off the rails. The past 96 hours, I've worked 48. And two more night shifts for another 24 hours in the next 48. Piss poor planning on my part and I started grabbing easy food, and then eating cookies and candy to keep myself going with the sugar rush. Dammit. Usually, it's much easier to eat healthy when I work, but I'm getting killed this week.

You can try boosting your calories for a bit if you don't want to dip below 1600 (you shouldn't) and/or increase exercise (an option).

Someone your weight should consume around 2500 calories to maintain. Being 900 under is a huge deficit for a prolonged time. Your body adapts and becomes more efficient with your calories.

If your weight loss stalls, you likely need reset your body by consuming maintenance (around 2500-2600 for your bw). I usually do it for a week after 2 months of cutting. Some people like weekly "refeeds", but I'm from the school of thought that it takes more than 1 day to reset your metabolism. Our bodies adapt, but not that fast.

ETA: Then again .5 lbs a week isn't bad once the initial huge chunks slow down. 1-2 pounds a week should be the goal.

Honestly I do think I need a cheat meal/day. Nothing crazy. Super Bowl coming up. Was initially hoping I wasnt invited to a party but now that I have been I think it comes at a good time.

Oatmeal and banana for breakfast.

Romaine, peppers, cucumbers, celery, carrots, 3 boiled potatoes and an apple for lunch.

Turkey Tacos for dinner.

Need to start to add some more variety.

This is the widely accepted broscience/realscience on the topic.  This is also the type of thing that makes Thermos like James' head bleed.
Eh, I could buy that.  Your body needs some time to absorb the calories/nutrients so if it's going right through you I can see all the calories not getting absorbed.  Although I'd wager the majority of calories do "stick."  If not, wtf did the term "beer belly" come from?  That's science right there my friend.

Yup but you lost 7 lbs in a month.  If you kept losing half of that each month up for the rest of the year you'd start next year down 45.5 lbs.  It's like the tortoise and the hare.

they count.  at least for me they do.  i used to do no booze for lent every year.  i found that nothing happened weight wise for the first 4-5 weeks.  but once whatever booze fat reserve was depleted, the weight fell off  to the tune of 4-5 lbs a week.  and this was with zero excersize and eating whatever the #### i wanted.

and the other side of boozing it up, is eating like #### afterwords.  whether it's that night or the next day.

Booze fat reserve = Broscience.

Boozing calories count the same as any other calories. 1 shot is about 100 cal, 1 IPA is about 250 calories.

Your body metabolizes booze first, but it also decreases inhibitions. That's a double whammy to weight gain. Whether you get a beer belly or not depends on what type of drunk you are.

So if you're the person who gets drunk and then proceeds to eat anything in front of you....you'll get a beer belly because of all the excess calories from food. If you're the type of drunk, who just drinks and drinks until you wake up the next morning...then you'll likely won't get as fat because again 10 shots is only about 1k calories...that's nothing compared to drinking + eating a bag of chips, having some pizza, or whatever you can get at Jack In The Box.
