Otis fad diet thread — yoga, fasting, and kevzilla walking on🚶‍♂️ (7 Viewers)

Wife has been in good shape, did mostly power lifting stuff and yoga, but started doing these barre classes.  HFS.  Girl is getting jacked.  It's just a bunch of super high rep tiny movements.  #### I hate.  Made fun of her at first but I'm sold.

I'm gonna have to step up my game in the gym to keep up.  Might go on full meal prep.
You may as well just start taking spin classes.  "Everybody up out of the saddle!  We're going up a hill.  Weee!"

I did spin for awhile for cardio while I was I was trying to lose my BeerSpot weight.  If you like to turn your brain off and still get a HIIT workout in it's great.  Most HIIT stuff require you to have some level of balance and coordination.  But good god does it get boring.

I changed up and started playing xbox on a trainer in my living room.  Then rode a real bike.  Got hooked on that for a bit, but it takes too much time to get to a reasonable fitness level riding, so here I am.

For some reason I always pictured you as Asian....false?

Drink: black coffee and water.

eat: boiled a 10 lb. bag of Baby Bella (Yukon Gold) potatoes about 20 minutes, cut them up sprayed a minimal amount of EVOO on them. Roasted at 400 for about an hour with kosher salt, pepper, rosemary, thyme, garlic and onion powder.

I eat a plateful whenever I get hungry, sometimes once, sometimes twice a day. Throw a little Rao's marinara sauce on top, pop in the microwave and eat. Gone thru 12 lbs of spuds in 5 days.

an actifry might change the game for me. I love gravy fries and have a recipe for vegan brown gravy that is almost fat-free, very low cal.
Ran out to the store and bought a bunch of potatoes tonight, 3 different kinds.  Made the ones like you did above, only 5 pounds for now but used cayenne as well but no EVOO.  Roasted on parchment paper, just had a plateful with a little ketchup.  Amazing.  Going to try the rest of them tomorrow..

Also picked up a jar of Rao's sauce, anxious to try it out, never had it.

NO, that sucks.  You don't have his cell phone number?
Not anymore. I think the guy fell on hard times. Wife left him for a cop and it seems like he lost his job. Its not that big a deal.  I mean that gun is too big for what I do. You could shoot an elephant with it.

I bet he is easy to track down but I wrote it off.

Here's a clue no-salt guys, you're doing way more harm to your body by being fat asses than you are by adding a little salt to your food.  Try not being obese and get in shape and then see if that doesn't improve all of your cardiac markers.

I swear...
This is not at all what I am referring to. I'm talking about the people at a restaurant who will get their chips and salsa, and then proceed to shower salt on a basket of chips that have already been heavily salted. And these same people get their big mouth burgers with extra bacon, peel off the top bun, and then pour at least a teaspoon of salt on a burger that is already full of salt.

Do this for 20 years and we'll see how healthy it is. Defend it all you want, but for the most part, people use too much salt. And it's not healthy.

The recommended daily amount of sodium is around 1500-2300mg. After 50 years old, people should not consume more than 1500mg per day. However, most Americans average between 3500-4500mg per day. Just be honest, you salt defenders just don't like the way that "bland" food tastes. Ya know what? That's how it tastes! I for one enjoy it. Salt all you want. There are reasons that heart disease is the leading cause of death in both men and women across all racial/ethnic groups. And too much salt is one of those reasons.

When you switch from talking about the subject being discussed to the person you're discussing that subject with it's usually a sign things aren't going very well for you in said discussion.

I'll take that as "Boy, the information I had was antiquated and out of date. I was wrong, thanks for showing me this new information. I learned something today!"
Agreed.  One of the biggest part of the keto diet is getting (and supplementing) electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium).

I get a lot of resistance and keto-haters.  Fat people mock me for not eating cake or whatever....but I'm on a mission.  With an open mind, the science is pretty good.  Basically the food pyramid is upside down.

It is a common refrain but salt is likely not a big factor in that.

Potatoes for breakfast, about 1.5 pounds.  They weren't as good as last night.  Have another 1.5 pounds slotted for lunch.

I love when I work from home. Wife made me 3 egg whites, 2 strips of bacon, one piece of toast, and my usual cup of coffee. So delicious and less than 300 calories.

I can quote sources too... this one from the American Heart Association. Who are you going to believe?

Is it true that some research questions the connection between sodium and health problems, suggesting that sodium isn’t so bad?

The science behind sodium reduction is clear. Robust evidence has linked excess sodium intake with high blood pressure, which increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, and heart failure.

Some newer research questions the link between sodium consumption and health problems, but the connection is well-established and Americans should still be cutting back on salt. The newer research adds to a larger discussion that has evolved over the last few years about appropriate levels of salt intake and its impact.

Much of the research that questions sodium intake and health problems relies on flawed data, such as inaccurate measurements of sodium intake and an overemphasis on studying sick people rather than the general population. Often, the studies with paradoxical findings are poorly designed to examine the relationship between sodium intake and the health outcome of interest. The American Heart Association published a Science Advisory in February 2014 that discussed the problems with many of the studies that question how sodium is related to heart disease.

It’s important to remember that new studies become just one part of decades of evidence on this topic. When considering that evidence as a whole, it is clear that a significant body of research reinforces the link between sodium intake and heart health.

If you are eating Quarter pounders with cheese as a staple, yeah you need to cut back on the salt.  If you are eating garden salad with raspberry vinaigrette for lunch as a staple, you probably need to add salt.  This isn't rocket surgery.  Most Americans eat like ####.  Salty food (chips, bacon) hit the brain's pleasure sensors just like sugary foods.

I think the AHA recommendations for salt are for the average person who gives zero ####s about their health.

I am going to believe the primary scientific research.

This is a deep rabbit hole but orgs like the AHA and the FDA are very slow moving animals when it comes to adjusting to new data (or even understanding the data of their time). It took 30+ years for the FDA to finally acknowledge that dietary cholesterol was not responsible for increased serum cholesterol.

worst workout ever yesterday.  only 2 splats.  I think I might be in for a gain this week
Any workout that can be described with "splat" I probably don't want to know about.

Lift heavy things and put them down.  Somehow, even gay spinning, elevate your heart rate for an extended period.  Easy peazy.

Plus many such organization still cling to BMI like it's a fantastic determinant of overall health.

You seem angry. I thought you people were supposed to be jolly.

New England Journal of Medicine

Is this primary enough for you?

2 of them. Older so they don't take as much time as they used to.
That makes sense.  With three little kids I find it nearly impossible to have any kind of routine--everyone is always sick and the house is always chaos.  I can't even fathom my wife getting time.  Got her a Peloton bike for Xmas that she's used exactly one time...

Some may be, but I am not arguing that salt, in conjunction with a high carbohydrate diet, causes hypertension.  The science around hypertension is not in dispute.  Primary hypertension is caused by an increased amount of liquid and salt in the blood as well as the thickening of blood vessels.  The underlying factor in both of these issues is raised/high levels of insulin in the body.  A low carbohydrate diet will significantly reduce insulin production/levels, tends to discourage the body from accumulating fluids, and increases the elimination of salt via urine.

I buy it for $500 from you.

5k walk to start the morning in glorious mid 60 degree weather.  6 eggs whites for a recovery breakfast.

Weighed in at 268 this morning so I have broken the 20 lb mark.

I may order shoes in my size and give it a whirl.  What the hell, I'm that invested in the thing already, might as well see if maybe it will catch on for me.  Though I'm sure it won't. Sounds terrible.

I am aware of this. You and your keto-diet are not the target audience for my disdain of over-salters.

But you have plenty of time to drink wine at home.

Potatoes/fries are like wings. They're best directly out of the oven/fryer and never seem to be as good re-heated. Have you tried baked sweet potato fries? They're insanely good when cooked to perfection (crispy outside and creamy inside). I dust them with a little salt/sugar/cinnamon.

Great idea. If you spend enough money, you are sure to lose weight!

I go on my lunch break to the gym. Is that possible for you?

I go sometimes early before work, sometimes at lunch and sometimes after everyone else is in bed at night. There's always time if you choose to make it.
