outlook for david garrard (1 Viewer)

Garrard and Schaub belong in the same bucket; backups with way too much talent to be so for very long. They either take over via injury or they take on a starting job when they become an unrestricted free agent. Keep them on your roster if you have any room. Trade for them mid-season before they become a FA.

will he ever get a shot to be a starter? under contract for two more years i believe.
One has to believe that Del Rio's leash on Leftwich will be short. If it is not performance, it will be due to injury.Tom
:lmao: This is some of the kookiest #### ive ever heard. If anyone is in Leftwichs corner, it is Del Rio.There is no QB controversy until Leftwich proves himself not to be the starter. Been said over and over by the coaching staff. I dont expect Garrard to stick for so long in Jacksonville. He has proven himself capable against some NFL defenses and should garner alot of interest from other teams. The Jags are reluctant to give him up because injury may strike at any time. Maybe when the Jags have a capable replacement to lefty (Quinn Gray??) will DG get a shot at a starting gig. And that will be a long time comming for you haters.

I think that Garrard will be a very good nfl quarterback. He seems to just know how to win games. That being said. I think fantasy wise he may only ever be a QB#2.

What I dont understand is why in the #### did he sign a 3 year contract extension last year

The main differince between Schaub and Garrard is that the Jags have been willing to trade Garrard. They would want a high draft pick, but he has been on the block. I think David is a talented QB and he's a solid citizen but when no other NFL team seems interested it might be telling you something. Maybe that's why he signed the contract to stay in Jax last season, he realized his market wasn't as high as some seem to think it is.

:goodposting: I agree with this 100%. Garrard has already demonstrated that he is a startable fantasy QB in the stretch run last year. Schaub is going to start for in the next year or two.

He will always get a few starts each year in Jax when Leftwich is hurt, & he fills in nicely.

He' a great runner, but not that great of a passer & I think he'd struggle if he went to start for another team. Unless the team was already stacked at the other offensive positions, he cannot carry a team.

There were several teams interested in Garrard such as Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Green Bay, Miami, San Francisco, and Tampa. Jacksonville wanted a first round pick in exchange for Garrard, so teams withdrew their interest. Also, his Crohn's disease was still a concern at the time among some clubs. He hasn't had problems with it since he had part of his intestines removed, and was put on a medication that has kept the Crohn's inactive. I think Garrard should be a starter.
