Cops are warning residents in rural South Carolina to shut their doors and windows after at least 43 monkeys escaped from a bio-research lab.

The rhesus macaques slipped out of an Alpha Genesis facility in Yemassee — which is just off I-95 in the south of the state — on Wednesday night.

The company provides “primate research and development support to the scientific community,” according to its website.

It begins....

Why do they bother testing on animals anymore? Americans don't even do vaccinations anymore. Leave the poor animals alone.

There are just some medicines that have to be tested on primates to meet safety requirements. It's really sad. Frankly, I'd be fine not allowing the testing anymore.
Me too. I didn't want to hit it too hard in here and be a downer. But as I have gotten older I've done nothing but get more empathetic to living creatures. At the same time, I have lost my patience with how stupid and greedy and wasteful humans are. Really negative mindspace at times. How can people abuse dogs? Ok - enough of that. Loved the 12 monkeys quip.

Live webcam footage:

The rhesus monkey is the best-known species of macaque and measures about 47–64 cm (19–25 inches) long, excluding the furry 20–30-cm tail. Females average about 8.5 kg (19 pounds) and males 11 kg. In both sexes the rump and legs are orange. Rhesus monkeys can thrive in a variety of climates and habitats.

They are supposedly not only belligerent toward humans and dangerous to handle, but also vicious toward other conspecifics and hence difficult to introduce to members of their own kind.

So.... 20-30 lbs, belligerant towards humans, and dangerous to handle. Perfect.

They got a long way to go before they come up by me but I'm ready for Planet of the Apes, redneck style :boxing::football:

Not to scare anyone but monkeys like these won't just kill you. They will eat off body parts and let you lie there alive and in pain. Arm yourselves people of South Carolina. I live in Georgia and will begin to prepare if they get past you. We stand united against the monkey horde!!!
