P90X - Anyone try this? (2 Viewers)

Done with the third week (I have just have the stretching tomorrow). For the recovery week I plan on doing...

Day 1: Elliptical (45 minutes) plus abripper

Day 2: Plyo

Day 3: Elliptical (45 minutes) plus abripper

Day 4: Kempo

Day 5: Elliptical (45 minutes) plus abripper

Day 6: One of the Insanity workouts

Day 7: Stretch plus Basketball

So far I am down 9 pounds in three weeks but I really don't notice a difference in my body, stamina, or athletic ability. Also, is there any reason not to do the abripper on the off weeks?

I've contemplated doing ab ripper once or so during the phase 2 recovery week (going right now). But I've noticed that rest is really doing me some good, so I'm going to stick with their plan and just do what's prescribed. Rest is just as important as working hard. The only variation I've done is I've been running instead of Kenpo.

Nothing wrong with a little modification, but there is a schedule for the recovery week, and its not easy. And Core Synergistics is a really good workout. I've never had a better workout than the ones following a rest week (including my self prescribed one!).

What is the Core Synergistics? I saw the disc and never really though about it (much like yoga which I can't do).

Only done it a few times (twice during each rest week), but its pretty hard. Kind of a mild plyo, with pushups and ab work. I'm in the middle of week 6. I did the ab ripper on days 1, 3, and 5 of my recovery week. I think it helped. I'm up to 60 mason twists :lmao:

I really dig Core Synergistics. It's on my short list of DVDs to keep in the rotation for post P90x. :lmao:Looking forward to doing it tonight, actually.

Why can't you do yoga?
Too much pain. I am about as inflexible as it gets, which means that I really should do it. I supplement cardio instead.

Today, I stumbled upon a great pre-workout routine that I just may have to continue.

I was supposed to do yoga yesterday (Saturday), but I had to work then do some yard work, so I never got around to yoga. I figured I'd just do yoga today which should have been my rest day, but my wife reminded me that we had to go to our nephew's confirmation and party afterwards. At the party, I got talked into having about 5 strong captain and cokes. hot dog, sub sandwich, potato salad for lunch. At that point, I had all but given up on doing yoga....this would be the first workout I would have missed. When we got home, I still had that buzz from the captain. I really didn't want to miss a workout, so I figured I'd at least throw the disk in and see how it goes.

Well, wouldn't you know it...I had my best yoga workout yet! I'm doing the whole warrior 1, 2, and reverse no prob at all. I knew I was buzzed, so it's like I had to really concentrate on the movements and that really helped. Right angle pose was a piece of cake. Warrior 3 is always a killer, but I today I nearly made the entire progression of warrior 3, half moon, twisting half moon. did the wheel for 45 sec. Yoga belly 7 was nothing. I knew I F-ed up by having alcohol at the party, so I just willed myself thru it all! Forget about no-xplode and all that junk...next time have a few mixers.

Starting phase I in the morning. I did 90 days last year with great success. I've been running primarily since last October. I did CardioX last week 3 times to ease back in. I finished phase III last May at 157 and have maintained that for most of the year but weighed in this morning at 165. Not terrible but it motivated me to get back down in time for the beach.

I am already dreading Plyo.

I had my first race of the season yesterday. I've ridden a grand total of 2 times prior to the first race, which is usually a death sentence since I'm always riding myself into shape (I never worked out to prepare for the season). So going into yesterday, I was really interested how this was all going to shake out.

Well, all I can say is I'm still in complete shock at my fitness level after just 2 phases of P90x. I felt so much stronger and had so much more control over the bike I think I rode like this for the entire 2 hours :lmao: .

Even my brother (who's always been faster than me) noted back at the truck that he couldn't catch me and had never seen me ride like that before. Needless to say, this is exactly what I needed to get me motivated to wrap up phase 3 after I heal up today (god I'm sore!!!)

:lmao: P90x

Started today. Ugh, felt like I was going to throw up about halfway through ab ripper. Still not hungry but made myself have some chocolate milk and some breakfast. Feeling a little better.

For guys that work out in the morning, do you eat something before you work out? I had half a snack bar, but don't know if it helped or hurt.

5'9" 180

Hoping to get down to 165.

I work out first thing in the a.m. I have half a banana and half a scoop of creatine before working out.

Wow, i am so out of shape!! Day 1 just kicked my ###!!!

The burn feels good but i have a feeling i will be wrecked in the morning!!

Day one is in the books. ;)

I decided I was going to do the whole nine, so I prepared my meals for the week on Sunday and I'm sitting here tonight starving but know I can give in the first day. I was able to do most of the workout except the last set of under the fence pushups, I hit the floor. My first time through Ab Ripper I was doing anywhere from 10- the entire 25.

I didn't do all the measurements prior to starting, but I did do the pictures and recorded my weight. Starting at 5'9 165lbs and hoping to add a little bulk and get rid of a beer gut that has started to develop.

I get to see what all the Plyo talk is about tomorrow. :kicksrock:

I was mega sore yesterday after my first race of the season, so I took the day off (yesterday). I started phase 3 today with Chest, Back, & Ab Ripper. It's incredible how far I've come in 8+ weeks. What once was a struggle to complete is now an 'enjoyable' workout. My 2nd set #s today were equal or higher than my 1st set numbers from week 3.

SO SIKED!

:goodposting: Doing something for 30 seconds doesn't sound hard, but Plyo kicked my butt way more than the first day did. Gearing up for I think arms and shoulders this evening.

I did p90x last year at 5AM. I went on an empty stomach. Did fine. Ab ripper is a ##### at first, it is less about abs and more about core. Yes, there is a difference as you found out. Keep plowing ahead and drink a lot of water.

Same here. I'm sure the way Tony has this one set up I will be fighting to get through at the end, but these are some of my preferred exercises so hopefully it isn't as bad as yesterday. :bag:

I need to pay attention to pacing myself starting out. I was nearly dead trying to get through 2nd round of chest and back monday!!

I know this is gonna sound like bs, because I don't half believe it myself. But I swear to god i think i see the spare tire shrink a bit every morning i wake up these past few days. My only regret in all this is not taking the before photos for a real point of reference.

I'm with you, Ned. I only completed day three yesterday, but after 3 days of the workouts and eliminating beer, soda, and crap food I have noticed my midsection starting to shrink. Day 3 - arms and shoulders were easier for me than the first 2 days, but this morning I am the sorest I have been since starting this journey.

I never knew the '2 day rule' until doing P90x - where the soreness is the worst on the 2nd day (shows how much I worked out prior to this). I started phase 3 on Tuesday (chest/back/ab ripper), and my pecks are still sore to the touch this morning. It's nothing like the crazy soreness at the start of the program, but it's still a 4-5 on a 1-10 scale. I'm really becoming a believer in this muscle confusion stuff...

Nice work! :goodposting: It sure makes it easy to get up each morning to do a workout when the results are starting to show.I'm at the end of week 7. For the past week or so, I've been noticing things in my abs that I've never seen before. I didn't see much progression like this for the first 5 or 6 weeks. Seems like the progress is happening faster.

For the past week or so, I've been noticing things in my abs that I've never seen before. I didn't see much progression like this for the first 5 or 6 weeks. Seems like the progress is happening faster.
It really does seem like it's a compounding thing. The deeper you get, the more accelerated the changes.

Washing the hair was interesting this morning LOL!!! I can't imagine what my arms will feel like tomorrow if the 2 day rule hold true!I did enjoy the arms/shoulders routine though!

LOL.. Agreed, washing the hair and putting on deodorant was a challenge. Today is Yoga X day for me and it looks rather long and boring. Can any of you guys that have done this one give me an idea of what to expect?

It's much harder than you'd expect it to be. Once you get past the first 45mins, it gets easier.I've been hit/miss with doing it every time. Some days I'll go for a run instead of Yoga when I'm not feeling up to it that day.

Yoga is long and boring. That is the one DVD my wife refuses to do. We typically substitute Core or Cardio instead.

As a beginner do you think it would hurt substituting Cardio X for this one?

I've only been doing the videos since mid-February or so, and wife and I have only been dieting/working out since January 1. But I dont think it will hurt.

We were doing the Lean program and she lost 29lbs and I lost over 40lbs using our own diet plan and the DVDs. And we missed days here/there. I think the combo of diet/exercise is key. I lost about 20lbs the first 6 weeks just dieting and riding a stationary bike but had plateued. P90X helped with the next 20lbs.

Not at all. I'd suggest trying it at some point as there are quite a few benefits to doing it. However, you gotta be in the right mindset to do it. At least for me...

OK, i'm going to meet a couple buddies to watch some of the draft.

I have tomorrow off so, if i do Yoga in the am and then continue that evening with the next video will i be ok? i don't want to fall behind a day, but i doubt i'll be effective on a long and boring routine when i get home this evening after having a couple beers.

Opinions?

I doubled up a few times. No big deal.

Same here. I watched the draft and planning on getting both in am/pm.
