Packer OC Philbin's Son is Missing (1 Viewer)

SayWhat?

Footballguy
Sorry if this is a redundant thread, but sure hope this kid turns up soon. If not and he's still missing at the end of the week, does Philbin coach this coming weekend? If he doesn't coach, does this at all impact the Packers or does Rodgers basically run things as is? Regardless of the above answers, what a scary situation. There seem to be a lot of mysterious deaths/disappearances of college kids in the midwest. Hope this doesn't turn out to be another one.

A Brown County judge sentenced Michael Philbin to six months in jail in 2009 after he was convicted of sexually assaulting two young girls and two counts of battery.
That sentence made me wonder if someone was looking for revenge. Just speculation of course, there could be a lot of reasons he's out of contact.
I read the insertion of that fact as "well, he's been in trouble before so maybe he's missing because he's on multiple day bender." Either way, this could end up being the non-Tebow story of the week.

A lot of college kids in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota seem to get wasted and vanish. They try to walk home alone (apparently ) and end up falling in a river. 4 or 5 over the last couple years. Some think it may be a serial killer, but no one really knows. I don't understand wjhy someone wasted would end up alone.

My wife's cousin died like that. Was a very long time ago, but his friends thought it was funny that he passed out on a swing at a park and he froze to death that night. They left him.

Not related at all. Furthermore Oshkosh is not Northern Wisconsin and the opposite side of the state from MN.More info on the actual story here:http://www.jsonline.com/news/wisconsin/rescuers-search-fox-river-for-possible-victim-fr3npe2-136930878.html

I know a guy from Mass. that tried to walk home drunk over 5 miles in the snow, he ended up digging a hole in the snow to get shelter from the wind and passed out for several hours before waking up at dawn. Not really the type of guy to make up BS stories.

No snow or frozen lakes and rivers so far this year. Hope he got lost it's been in the 30's and 40's lately so he could still be alive.

Hypothermia kills and comes into play when temps are still in the 60's. Once the body's core temperature slips into the mid 90's real trouble begins...

Just heard a radio report and doesn't sound like he was drinking as he disappeared in the afternoon.
Is there a no-drinking before 5 PM law in WI?ETA - missing at 2 AM Sunday morning. Reported missing around 8 PM Sunday night.

21-year-old son, guys. thought this was a missing child. dude prob crashed at a friends house.
There is a credible report that someone heard a cry for help from the Fox River in Oshkosh on Saturday night/Sunday morning. Feel terrible for the Philbin's. He was getting interviews last week around the league to become a HC somewhere. Instead of that, his son is missing, and it looks like there's a good chance he's dead.

my bad, didn't think it was like that. very sad indeed. :(

Per @jasonjwilde, ESPNWisconsin's senior NFL writer:

I'm told the #Packers players have indeed been informed that the body of offensive coordinator Joe Philbin's son, Michael, has been ID'ed.

UPDATE.......................UPDATED (5:43 p.m. ET): ESPN Milwaukee's Jason Wilde is reporting that the Packers players have been told that the body has been indentified as Michael Philbin.

UPDATED (5:03 p.m. ET): According to the Northwestern.com, a body has been recovered from the river but no positive ID has been made yet.

Police said the body of a man between the ages of 20-25 was recovered in about 15 feet of water, 30 yards from the shore at about 3 p.m. Monday.

----------

Police in Oshkosh, Wis., are searching for a person who might have fallen through the ice and into the Fox River, and at the same time, police are asking for help from the public to locate the whereabouts of 21-year-old Michael T. Philbin, the son of Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin.

As the Northwestern.com reports, divers began to search for the missing person early Sunday when a man reported he thought he heard somebody crying out for help from the river about 2:30 a.m.

Michael Philbin was last heard from early Sunday while he was on a trip to visit friends at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He spoke to somebody on his cell phone about 2 a.m., and he wasn’t reported missing until about 8 p.m. Sunday. Police do not suspect foul play.

The police, though, are treating the missing persons report and the possible drowning as two separate incidents.

Philbin is described as 5-foot-11 and 155 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes. Anyone with any information on Philbin is asked to call Oshkosh police at (920) 236-5700 .

In the past week, Joe Philbin has interviewed for the head coaching jobs for the Chiefs and the Dolphins.

"The Packers organization is aware of the missing person report regarding Michael Philbin, son of offensive coordinator Joe Philbin," the Packers said in a statement released Monday. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Philbin family during this difficult time. We ask anyone with information about Michael to contact the Oshkosh Police Department."

:goodposting: Going to be tough for Philbin this week for sure.

TWO counts of sexual assault, huh? Great kid.
Inappropriate.
not really. the kid sounded like a scumbag. still doesnt make it any less depressing for his family.
Before this gets out of hand...Micheal Philbin had a party at his parents house when he was 17. Alcohol was involved. At least one person drank to the point of unconsciousness. Micheal Philbin and a friend took advantage of some drunk girls (they were 16.) It clearly went too far, and Philbin spent 6 months in jail for it. In reality, it was a slap on the wrist, but the judge thought he wasa good kid that had used extremely bad judgement one night. I'm not making excuses for his actions that night, but I don't think you know the kid or the situation well enough to call him a scumbag.

That's terrible ...

And on a totally selfish note there goes any chance of the Giants winning this weekend.

The packers are sure to rally around Philbin and rightfully so.

it has been unseasonably warm here in wisco this year and today it was about 52 here and in the 50 s this weekend too and i just talked to a buddy of mine who is mad that he cant ice fish this year on a lot of lakes that he could have last year so it is bad on the lakes now and the rivers obviously freeze even slower and the big ones are always risky anyhow with flows and crazy currents busting up the ice and anyhow oshkosh is about 2 hours north of here and its been warm there too very sad

From your description it sounds like he raped two girls. Not really sure you can call that bad judgement

Holy run on sentence.

If you're happy he's dead, cool. Leave it out of this thread and praise his death somewhere else.

not a comment on his death at all. Its very sad and obviously is devastating news for his family and the whole Packer family. All I was commenting on was the fact that he doesnt sound like a good kid to me

You called him a scumbag in a thread where his life seems to be in question. Please call him a scumbag in a different thread.....oh ,wait, if he were still living you wouldn't have known about this at all......Even then, you probably don't know any details about his history.....yet, you judge him and call him a scumbag.....?

I'm sure they will report his in the game - I hope they don';t try to make a story line out of it - the impact on the game is not quantifiable.

Normally around this time of year the rivers and lakes are drivable. Around the state so far it has only been cold enough at night to freeze and during the day it has been warmer than 32 degrees. Lakes and rivers are not safe at all this year. A huge dumb mistake to go anywhere near the water for any sporting reason or recreation this year.

Packer Nation is mourning the loss of one of our coaches son's. Please be respectful..
Yeah, I am sure the talk around the state this morning will be the loss of this kid that 99% of Wisconsin never heard of. Sad deal, but let's not blow it out of proportion.

BTW..a man died yesterday after falling through the ice in Warrens, Wisconsin. Will "Packer Nation" be mourning this guy also?
