Packer OC Philbin's Son is Missing (1 Viewer)

Packer Nation is mourning the loss of one of our coaches son's. Please be respectful..
Yeah, I am sure the talk around the state this morning will be the loss of this kid that 99% of Wisconsin never heard of. Sad deal, but let's not blow it out of proportion.

BTW..a man died yesterday after falling through the ice in Warrens, Wisconsin. Will "Packer Nation" be mourning this guy also?
you are right but for some reason it doesnt feel good to come in and bash on anyone who died regardless of past court stuff etcetera i guess some will overreact and the tough thing is to not overreact in response but rather just roll your eyes and go and post in some other thread

The poster is referring to the Packer Nation on this site. This is an NFL fantasy football site that reports NFL related news every day, and there are a lot of Packer fans on here. The son of an NFL coach dying is relevant news. Is that so hard to understand?

TWO counts of sexual assault, huh? Great kid.
Inappropriate.
not really. the kid sounded like a scumbag. still doesnt make it any less depressing for his family.
Before this gets out of hand...Micheal Philbin had a party at his parents house when he was 17. Alcohol was involved. At least one person drank to the point of unconsciousness. Micheal Philbin and a friend took advantage of some drunk girls (they were 16.) It clearly went too far, and Philbin spent 6 months in jail for it. In reality, it was a slap on the wrist, but the judge thought he wasa good kid that had used extremely bad judgement one night. I'm not making excuses for his actions that night, but I don't think you know the kid or the situation well enough to call him a scumbag.
I think I can make that judgement based on your description here. Dead or alive, having unconsensual sex with an unconscious girl deserves the label of 'Scumbag'...Thoughts and prayers to the family on a totally unrelated death.. I have children, and regardless of what might go right or wrong in their lives, I love them, and this is a tragedy.Go Giants!

Why do you have to be a tool? This is a football site. Many Packer fans hang out here, and if you're any kind of fan at all, which I doubt you are, you'd know that the Packer family is a tight knit group.

I think the difference of opinion is that all that are lost should be mourned. Just because he's the son of a Packers coach makes this no more or less tragic that any other young person's death.

Sure...but whats the point of Underachiever's post? Whats the point of coming off the way he did?Seems pretty ridiculous even to make that post.

I certainly agree that the two drownings are equally tragic in an objective sense. Sad things happen every day but most people don't go looking for them - I couldn't handle constantly dwelling on the worst parts of human existence. Sometimes things like death force themselves in front of us by happening to someone we know, or someone connected to something we're passionate about - football, music, whatever. Sometimes they "hit close to home" in some other way - we think of our own sons or friends. It's always hard when sadness intrudes into the bright spots of our lives. So we mourn.

But nobody should be rebuked for not mourning all the sad things that ever happened in the world all at once. It's not reasonable or realistic. And it seems to me to be in especially poor taste to argue the point at this time.

I'm not sure that's entirely directed at me - and this is not directed entirely at Reep - I am not rebuking anyone for not recognizing all the sad things - I'm more in line with rebuking this one with any priority over any others - despite what emotional contact you believe you have with an organization. There's no contact to the person as if he were the OC in Chicago, you would not be mourning.Feel free to mourn, by all means. And I hope your mourning reaches his family in some way and they feel some comfort in it.

I didn't really make it clear but I was more responding to Underachivers than yourself. I understand what you are saying. However on your point about it being just some organization that fans only fancy themselves connected to in their minds, I think you are in the wrong. I've never lived in Green Bay, so I'm not a part of it, but the community-team connection there is truly a singular phenomenon in all of professional sports.

not a comment on his death at all. Its very sad and obviously is devastating news for his family and the whole Packer family. All I was commenting on was the fact that he doesnt sound like a good kid to me
What if someone asked you multiple times very nicely not to hijack this thread cuz the story hit them very hard?

Very sad news. I can certainly understand the conflicting emotions in this thread, but the bottom line is that a father just lost his son. His son obviously made some very bad decisions a few years ago, he may have been a bad guy as some have suggested, I can't say. But this is neither the time nor the place to speculate. I've no doubt Philbin was not proud of what his son did, but that's neither here nor there at this point. The love between parent and offspring is unconditional, period. It was his son, his son is dead--having to bury a child at a young age is just about the worst thing any parent can face. RIP, and thoughts go out to the Philbiin family and the entire Packers' organization and fan base.
