Packers RB Green injures hamstring

Packers RB Ahman Green injured his hamstring in practice this week and was held out of Friday's session.

If Ahman is out/limited, anyone have a feeling for the workload split between Morency and Herron? Is one more suited to carry the load vs 3rd down/change of pace/goal line back?

There has been no mention of this on any other Packer site. Also, there was no mention of Green not practicing yesterday at the JSOnline site which listed this injury report this morning...

"Injury update: Tackle Junius Coston, cornerback Will Blackmon and guard Jason Spitz missed practice again on Thursday. Coston attempted to test his injured knee Wednesday by dressing and participating in drills, but he dropped out and missed practice.

Coston is listed as doubtful for the game at Detroit and the other two are questionable. Coston said he wasn't ready for a full return this week and hoped to be ready next week. Cornerback Al Harris practiced again with his injured shoulder and tight end David Martin returned after missing Wednesday with an injured knee."

Full story

The Green Bay Packers may be without the services of running back Ahman Green Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Packers coach Mike McCarthy today revealed that Green injured his hamstring in practice this week and was held out of Friday's session.

Green was unavailable for comment. He was not listed on Thursday's injury report issued by the Packers, but will be added to today's report as questionable, meaning there is a 50-50 chance that he will play.

"His hamstring flared up on him at the end of practice yesterday," McCarthy said.

The coach was not sure if Green will be ready to play on Sunday. "We'll know more in the morning," he said.

If Green, who gained 152 yards on 36 carries in Green Bay's first two games, is unable to play, Noah Herron and newly acquired Vernand Morency are the only other running backs on Green Bay's roster. Both will share in running the ball if Green is unable to play.

Herron has rushed three times this season for a total of 5 yards. Morency joined the Packers last week in a trade from Houston for running back Samkon Gado. He did not play any downs from scrimmage in Green Bay's 34-27 loss to the New Orleans Saints last Sunday, and returned one kickoff for 28 yards. But McCarthy said that Morency took all of the reps in practice on Friday and that he will be more involved with the offense against the Lions.

"I've been getting a lot of reps, just trying to get in tune with the offense," Morency said. "I think everything is going well."

Morency, a second-year pro, said he has worked with running backs coach Edgar Bennett early in the morning and at night to get up to speed with the offense.

"Our main objective is to put everything together and go out there and have fun," Morency said.

Herron has the benefit of working with the offense throughout the off-season and training camp. He led the Packers with 119 yards on 30 carries (4.0 per carry avg.) in the preseason.

I'd imagine Herron would get the nod ... he at least knows the offence and had 119 carries yards on 30 carries in preseason ... Morency is still looking for a snow suit and mucklucks at the local Army Navy

Herron? Get off the crackpipe dood.. Morency is more talented than Ahman and Herron put together. Kubiak just didnt like his style, so he shipped him.

Morency is waiver wire material, fast.

Herron is now listed and practicing as Green's backup. Morency is working as the third down back and the HC said earlier this week that he had picked things up well and would be more active in this week's gameplan (NO, I don't have a link, but you can find the quotes if you want to).IMO if Green misses time you will see both.

who needs a link when you can visually see it? Do you spend all your life on FBG forum or do you actually watch the games?
Which of his 59 carreer carries helped you come to this conclusion?Or maybe it was because he was traded for an UDFA after not being able to take a job from a 6th round rookie? You have to have a link, or at least something better than "you can visually see it", if you're going to make a stupid claim like this. So, by all means, the floor is yours.

Long haul, I agree. But Herron will get the call this week. Morency has had all of 12 days to learn the offense, Herron's had the OTAs, training camp, preseason, and two weeks in the regular season.

MKB4.......have you posted the actual link to the story, I would like to read it in full.
Click on the LINK in post #1. Honestly.....do people read or just want the info spoon fed to them A la Al Davis.
Direct links to the full article are preferred. Sometimes MB's links are just to the main page and the direct link is difficult if not impossible to find from there.
:goodposting: I knew where to find it........just wanted MKB whatever to get in the habit of posting the news with the DIRECT link, so its all verified. Some people post things without direct links and thats just not cool.

Just picked Morency up and dropped Ben Watson for him. We'll see how it works out. He had a very good pre-season. I'm wondering if he'll be a better fit in Green Bay than in Houston. I'm puzzled because don't both teams run a zone blocking scheme that was just installed this year? What differences exist that will allow Morency to succeed in Green Bay?

McCarthy's pc is up on video.

No transcript yet, but this is indeed legit.

He also mentions Morency is "ready to go".

Cripes, just dropped Morency to pick up Gado (who was dropped by someone else), based on the thought that Gado is more likely to play a more significant role.

So, what are everyone's thoughts, if these two guys are the lead RBs, regarding who has more value. More likely to stick with Gado based on past performance, but just looking for the FBG temperature on both.

You did what??? I hope he was your TE2... Watson is Brady's #1 target..

I hope objective people took advantage of the situation when it was presented to them.

Why is this such a big shock? Watson is my #2 TE behind Heap. I'd rather gamble with my #2 TE and possibly find the replacement for Green. Sure it's a longshot but it's not that shocking.

I just watched McCarthy's press conference and they won't know much on Green until tomorrow. His hammy flared up at the end of practice yesterday and they were being precautionary today with Green.

McCarthy didn't seem to concerned however and he indicated that both Herron and Morency are "ready to go".

Believe me. It's shocking unless you are in a 4 team league. By dropping Watson, you lost an opportunity to trade your backup TE for an established, valuable player. You have also allowed another team in you r league to significantly improve its roster without giving up a dime.

Because backup TEs are such a hot commodity. If Watson stays true to form, he'll probably still be on the waiver wire when week 7 comes and Heap has his bye week

:lmao:Maybe you should stick around for more than a month before you start with this crap.
Why would I need to post a link to something that tells you Morency is a better back than Ahman and Herron? That's just another person's opinion...whoever it may be. DOes it really matter? Thats why a link means nothing for what I posted. It's my own personal view, based on the current situation and talent level. Were you asking for links when everyone was hyping up Wali Lundy and saying he was the future GOD of the NFL? People were saying he was better than Morency, and you believed it. Did you need a link then? Nope...now look where it got you. A boring runner from Virginia who has no speed or vision and who didnt do jack spit in college.Wow, real future GOD

He's not even ruled out yet. What if he plays with pain (as he has done in eth past) and goes off for 120 yards and 3 TDs. You'd be a real genius then.
