Packers v. Seahawks Pre-Season Game (1 Viewer)

As an owner of both, I love Rodgers and Grant but Tauscher is worthless and will hurt the value of both unless replaced.

Packers 2nd string against Seattle's first doesn't look good.

Seahawks have their first stringers on offense too.

Flynn has developed into a pretty nice QB. Drove it from their own 1 yard line and should have had a FG if it weren't for a bonehead penalty.

Couple of thoughts from a Seattle perspective...

QB Hasselbeck looked much better, but I'm surprised it played out this way. Packers reputation for blitzing a lot in preseason games is well earned.

WR Mike Williams continues to impress and is earning more playing time. He would be a great split-end to pair with Housh as flanker if he can keep his head straight. A healthy Branch will be your slot.

FS Earl Thomas nearly made a spectacular play on a deep ball. Covered a ton of ground with the ball in the air and made a leaping pass breakup over the top at an interception. Its been a while since we've see a Seattle safety make a similar play. However, Thomas getting burned on the first play was a disappointing.

Seattle RBs haven't had much room to run. The Washington TD was certainly the exception to that rule.

Seattle run defense will be solid, but they will continue to get lit up through the air without much pass rush. My guess is teams will figure it out quickly and run at DE Clemons a lot avoiding DE Bryant. On two particular plays Bryant totally collapsed his side and strung out running plays very nicely.

Thoughts on how Matt Flynn has played?

That last sack....at first I thought Bulaga gave it up, but no, the replay showed Bulaga sliding over at the last minute to help Allen Barbre after he completely botched his block. Barbre is awful.

Flynn looks good, Barbre will hopefully be off the team in a few weeks.

Yeah, Barbre is as good as gone. He's never looked like a player, in some ways it's an indictment of our OT talent the past few years that he has stuck around this long. No talent. Terrible player.

Brandon Jackson looks stronger as a runner this year. I think he'll get more carries this year but don't get any wild fantasy rostering ideas.

Porter on the other hand needs to get more powerful as arm tackles bring him down.

Eh. Against the 1st and 2nd-string guys, he looked the same as always - solid, but lacking the explosiveness to be a key contributor running the ball. He looked fantastic against the 3rd string guys though.

Overall impressions, for what they are worth

@ qb - Rogers and Hasselback. Both looked good. Hasselback much improved over last week. Flynn looked ok

@rb - no one. Ignore Jackson's stats. Against 1st string d, he was as bad as the others.

@wr - jennings, housh, williams all good. Jennings clearly a #1 WR, but williams could be a #2/3 wr had for a very late pick. Dillon got some early play by the pack - kind of curious to see him in game 3

@te - Finley is unstopable (except by Rodgers spreading the ball around), Carlson looked ok

@d - starting Packer line looked good. The rest have to many injuries to judge. Seatle line stopped the run.

comment on the Pack 0 Line - for all the crap people have been writing about some of the players, Rodgers has not really been under a lot of pressure, nor sacked even once I believe.

Solid observations overall. Re the Packer O-line: since mid-year 2009, they've been very solid at pass blocking, but their run blocking remains below average.

So far, based on the first two games in the preseason, I would say the right play in ff is whatever QB is going against the Packers
Well...I guess if Woodson and Harris are injured all season, you will be right. I don't think Hawk or Barnett played either, plus we have the rook at safety.

Tauscher @ RT is horrible, the guy can't move. The Pack couldn't find a better alternative @ RT for a guy that looks like a 50 yr old OG?
Bulaga if Tauscher can't block. Both tackles are old but Thompson hasn't draft much until this season.
Confused by this. He's drafted: Lang, Sitton, Barbre, Giacomini, Bulaga, Newhouse, Colledge, Spitz, Moll, Coston, Meredith.Lang is more than capable at RT, I believe Newhouse can play it too. They tried to sneak Meredith on the practice squad and it backfired; the guy ended up starting in the NFL last year. Not every pick has worked out, but to say Thompson has neglected it is just not accurate.ETA: And if there's one thing we know, it's that the Pack value versatility in their o lineman. So if Tauscher somehow forgets how to play, they have others who can play the position.

I would not totally ignore it.His runs in the 2nd quarter were against quite a few of the 1st stringers and he looked pretty good. Trufant, Babineaux, Milloy, Curry at least were all still in there (not the 2 minute drive, but the one before that). I agree he has not shown the explosion though.
