Paradise on Hulu: Episode 7 "The Day" is a masterpiece **WARNING, SPOILERS INSIDE** (1 Viewer)

Haven't watch E7 yet, but loving the series.
You're in for a treat. I want to watch it again already. First time I watched a whole episode of something recently and didn't look at my phone once.
I've posted about it in the streaming TV thread... I keep liking it more than I expect to (and I haven't seen ep7 yet). I feel like it's always on the verge of veering into dumb plot drivers- so I keep expecting dumb **** to happen... but so far, it's avoided those- at least the ones I've been anticipating. I'm still waiting on some other anticipated shoes to drop, but hopefully it will continue to surprise me.

If you haven't started watching this show yet, get on it. I just finished up Episode 7 "The Day" and wow. Best episode of a series I've seen in a long long time. Probably since Breaking Bad.
agree. we finished episode 6 lastnight and were bummed to be caught up. great show!

Episode 6....so you haven't seen episode 7 yet? Get your popcorn ready to watch it tonight then!

it hadn't dropped for us lastnight, so we are definitely ready for tonight. wife has said she hasn't looked forward to a show like this for a very long time. i agree. it has been renewed for a season 2 which is great if they can keep it up.

It looks like next week's episode 8 is the season finale, so it better damn well be renewed for a season 2! There will be lots of unanswered questions yet to address.

Scary stuff, and as someone mentioned in the streaming thread, nice job of explaining what happened.

my thoughts:
there's no way i'm letting her get the weapons because she isn't going to let me or my family live. i'm calling her security people and hoping one of them cracks and tells me where her daughter is being kept. no way she is not going to cave if i get the daughters location.

Never heard of Paradise but from the title I thought this may be a copy of White Lotus which wouldn't be smart as that show is cream of the crop. Glad that's not the case. Is this like a 24ish action thriller?

I'm still waiting on some other anticipated shoes to drop

first off- yeah- ep7 was outstanding and riveting. some fantastic performances, especially Marsden. loved that they went there to show what actually happened to cause this, which most shows don't.

as soon as I saw the teenage daughter, I immediately started to dread the dumb **** the show would have her do to drive plot/action. her running off, when there's obviously big stuff going down and her in-the-know dad is telling her to do something and she doesn't.... yeah. anything that follows- and potentially ending the coup as a result is massive- is one of those writing things I was hoping wouldn't happen. oh well.

also- when the president tells you its time to keep your wife close- and you know there's imminent danger... you try a little harder. "she hasn't listened to me in 20 years" was a funny line, but come on.

not really. it's blends concepts from a few types of shows to me, silo, wayward pines, a murder at the end of the world, but it far exceeds them all.

Okay, i never watched or heard of any of these shows. I'm more of a drama or dark comedy guy. My curiosity is peaked though. Will give it a shot.

something i found a little off, but it still hasn't taken away what an excellent show they have.

leaving the only weapons totally unguarded didn't seem smart.

Just wow. That episode was intense from start to finish. Excellent work by James Marsden. "Where are my nerds?"
also loved marsden. was chuckling at his personality with the events unfolding. liked the nerds line and:
we're about to lose florida, and the last time i said that it was for the electoral college

Okay, i never watched or heard of any of these shows. I'm more of a drama or dark comedy guy. My curiosity is peaked though. Will give it a shot.
I've never watched any of those other shows he mentioned either. It's a mix of government cover up/conspiracy and end of the world/extinction type of scenario. Definitely give it a shot, you'll like it.

On that note, White Lotus is right up scooter alley if you haven't seen it.

Yep I’ve seen the first 2 seasons of White Lotus and enjoyed it. Haven’t started season 3 yet.

Paradise is NOTHING like White Lotus. It’s a strange title for this show…not what I would’ve named it as it doesn’t describe the plot at all. I’m wondering if that is part of the reason this show isn’t more popular than it is.

Thanks. I never would have heard of this show as I don't wade through the 36,000 page Netflix thread.

isn't it what they called the town?

I've never seen White Lotus or Silo but it does borrow HEAVILY from Wayward Pines. I don't think Wayward Pines was an amazing show or anything but I think it's worth a watch.

That’s fine but it doesn’t market the show plot at all. It sounds like it’s a show about being on a tropical island.

Da plane da plane.....is about to strike The White House?

fwiw, I don't see how White Lotus has anything to do with Paradise, other than whoever posted that likes both shows. I don't like White Lotus (S2 less than S1 which I kinda enjoyed) because of it's lifestyles of the rich and famous themes and reliant "humor". I dgaf about that stuff, even if I readily admit White Lotus is a very well made, written and acted show. just not for me.

Silo
Now imagine it's post-apocalypse, and society was planned to live in an underground silo. not quite a cave, mind you... but basically. only difference is Silo is FAR into the future where heirarchy and mythology have been built into the Silo life and its function which is decidedly vertical (closer to surface vs waaaaay down).

I've been with you on Wayward Pines though.

yeah... but the name has an irony based on everything at play- makes it kinda interesting, at least to me.

no idea why it hasn't taken off as much as it probably should have... it's a good show. might be the name, sure- but I think you could call it worse and it would still be a good show that deserves viewership. might be the cast? on paper, not a group I would associate with a show this good- even though they're all doing a fantastic job (especially Marsden).

As dumb as it sounds

I have a sneaky suspicion that the success of Fallout helped inspire this and in s2 or later seasons if it gets that far we will start seeing top world exploration

Just watched it. Was caught up and just hadn't watched when you posted this. Was wondering if this thread was just hype.

It's not. Incredible episode of TV. I would say it's the best one hour of TV I've ever seen.

Very well done episode. Going back and forth with Severance and Reacher has been a glut of goodness. Want to say more about the end of the episode but let’s just say I’m not sure I could have held it together the same way…..

Fantastic episode - agree with others it’s one of the best episodes of any series in a while. We had been enjoying the show but this was outstanding and took it to another level.

I will say, it feels like this could be their high point. I’m not sure where they go with the story but hopefully they have it mapped out. But they earned a lot of goodwill and benefit of the doubt based on this first 7 episodes.

I'll be the downer. Finished ep 7. I might be suffering from trope fatigue. It's a good show and I'm up for ep 8, but if a couple themes continue, I might tap out. Also, I'm not a huge fan of post apocalyptic stories like some so there's that. I don't dislike them and this is well done. It's just, well... I won't voice my grievances here but if you don't get what I'm saying, I'll shoot you a pm.

Very good episode, the best of the season so far, no question.

My hang up is, I watched Jury Duty a couple years ago and I can't get that James Marsden out of my head when I see this James Marsden.

Same
TBH, it's part of why I've been so impressed with his performance here
Right? I mean there are bits of the character in the President so just when I think he's going to pull off being the savior of the brave new world, he downs a stiff one and says, "just like magic".
