***Paris 2024 Summer Olympics: July 26-August 11*** USA dominates medal count; Finish tied w/ China for most golds - See ya in Milan 2026! (3 Viewers)

I think Nico was ahead of the old Olympic record. That’s how insanely fast that race was. He looked like he crossed under 27 minutes.

I am in no way saying that I don’t want the women’s beach volleyballers to wear bikinis BUT is that really the best outfit to wear? I know a few of them are more covered up. Is there actually an advantage to wearing the bikini ? ( for the the player, not for us perpetual perpetrators of the male gaze)

Also, questions about the men’s basketball pools:

Why is Brazil automatically through to the quarterfinals? Couldn’t the loser of tomorrows South Sudan-Serbia game still get by them?

Huge whiff from Patrick...I'm sure he'd like to redact that if he could. Even members of the selection committee are walking it back....as the US struggled against the likes of Belgium.
"struggled" by beating them by 13. The men beat South Sudan by 1 in a "friendly". I guess they should be have taken Caitlyn.

Read an article about that yesterday and the woman said there is an "advantage" to wearing that over a one piece or other clothing. Said she was constantly trying to get sand out of her non bikini outfit which was a distraction.

I am a fan of the German volleyball team
I am a fan of women's volleyball across the board
Sure, they're attractive but its more. The physique and the way they are toned plus they wear very skimpy clothes
They almost look like sculptures some of them, reminds me when ESPN the magazine would showcase athletes bodies.
It's OK to just be in awe of how they stay in shape

Sounds like being naked would be an even better advantage. Just saying.

I understand Cnayon Barry is on the 3x3 team. I so much want to see an underhand free throw.
I saw him do it earlier today...

Reminded me of this with a little less drama

Probably better in this case that they leave a little to the imagination.

not sure about this either, trying to make sense of it out of this, though, looks like they have more points in the Group round: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basketball_at_the_2024_Summer_Olympics_–_Men's_tournament
Nm, I’m dumb. Loser of South Sudan-Serbia could get through still. Brazil is ahead of Greece, Spain, Japan and Puerto Rico, so they can’t be worse than 8th, even if both South Sudan and Serbia are ahead of them. Though I do wonder if Puerto Rico could pass them if they beat the U.S. by 60 points .

Not sure how all this works.
Spain has more points for than Greece and Australia in their group, but if Point differential is the #1 criteria, Australia beats the other two.
No idea how Greece is ahead of Spain, they lost to that team.

They say
“Rules for classification: 1) classification points; 2) head-to-head results; 3) head-to-head game points difference; 4) head-to-head number of game points scored.”

This makes no sense in Group A. 3 sides on same points. Does that rule out all head to head or just option 2)
Spain lost the least to Canada, has more points for than the other 2 etc

Group B is thankfully simpler, except for qualifying for the best 2 third ranked sides. Brazil is ahead of Greece on most metrcs

Group C
South Sudan will end up on 4 points no matter what. Or higher.
I guess Serbia can lose. So they might have to go through the third place route.

So confusing. Surely they can make this clearer

Agreed. Still trying to find a better explanation. That wiki was the best I've come across so far.

This is the first day I've had to just sit and watch the Olympics all day and it's been awesome. The men's 10K race was stunning. Watching Valerie Allman walk into the ring, chuck one discus well past qualifying as smooth as butter and then be done was awesome. The mixed 4x400 world record was awesome. Now I'm watching a replay of USA beach volleyball; obviously awesome. Looking forward to catching up on other awesome stuff tonight.

Do you get a point just for playing a game? I see that 0-3 Japan has 3 points

So catching highlights of the day on Peacock just now wife and I saw a bit of the 3 vs 3 men’s basketball and the commentator was go bad he was great. “He’s got the game in his hands like a Nintendo DS.” Was fully expecting him to blurt out “….and boom goes the dynamite.”

Anybody else actively rooting agains the US Women's basketball team after their snub of Caitlin Clark?
Of course not. I admittedly have not paid attention to them at all at the Olympics, which I likely would have had Clark been on the team, but rooting against them? No, that would be pure siliness.
She should have been Christian Leattner for the publicity alone.

Second leg of the mixed 4x400 almost got them disqualified. How on earth does that happen?!? She needs to buy that judge dinner for saving her butt.

Or Diana Taurasi. Or Candace Parker. Or Breanna Stewart. Or Sylvia Fowles.

That blew my mind. That would have been an all timer if they had been DQd.

Female runner for the second leg was standing about 25 feet forward from where she was supposed to be for the handoff. The judge was waving frantically for her to get back to her spot and she ran back just before the handoff.
