Was there a dads group for open tryouts for 3x3 bball?

I kid
No ****! I could not believe how non-athletic these folks look. They wouldn't even be able to practice on an NBA team, and what I mean is they couldn't physically do it IMO.
Sham looking sport or event, give me the Mens Basketball team, that's plenty
Literally looked like 3 guys who just came off the couch to get the band back together.
How did we send a team that's so bad? I feel like we could've just gone down to Rucker Park and picked literally any 4 players and they'd have won this thing in a walk. Instead we have 3 out of shape dads and Jimmer Freddette, who somehow forgot how to shoot, getting worked every game.

The US men and women in 3 v 3 are combined 1-7 after the women finally won a game today.

You two are ****ing nuts. They aren't Lebron or Steph, but those 4 dudes on the US are damn good players. Everyone thinks just pick 4 NBA guys and they would dominate. I am extremely skeptical.
And there are certain minimum amounts of 3 EX 3 time the players have to play to be eligible, so you can’t just grab people from the NBA or WNBA unless they specialize enough in this format.
The format being putting the ball in the ring above the stringy stuff?

Anybody else actively rooting agains the US Women's basketball team after their snub of Caitlin Clark?

Italian female boxer has to give up after getting pummeled by a guy. What a brutal way to end her Olympic experience.

I'm glad someone else is talking about this because I think it's one of the biggest reasons many are turning away, be very interesting to find out how many people are watching
And would @Zow hand me my muzzle so I don't say anything further

Boxing isn't a sport, anyway. It's goal is to injure the other person. That's just not a sport.

In other non-sports news, slap fighting will likely get authorized in Texas.

Watching the uneven bars and noticed how much play the bars have in them from what I remember. I looked at Olga Korbet from the 1972 Olympics and there is almost no flex in the bars at all. I wonder if they changed the specs for these things that allows for the high flying acrobatics now days.
Other than the dismount (Suni Lee) , I thought Korbet's was more impressive.
The uneven bars used to the men's parallel bars set to different heights. The sport is much more difficult now than it was in Korbut's day. More flex means much more difficult moves. The old bars also really hurt. Not good.

3x3 is to the Men's Basketball team what Pickleball is to Tennis

Of course not. I admittedly have not paid attention to them at all at the Olympics, which I likely would have had Clark been on the team, but rooting against them? No, that would be pure siliness.

Did anyone see Good Morning Football today ?
They did an Angry Runs segment featuring a NZ Rugby player. Very cool.

Olympic Sports I'd like to see:

Water ski jumping
Miniature golf
Cornhole
Texas Hold Em
Hot Dog Eating Contest
Egg and Spoon Race
Arm Wrestling
Running from wasps

People really need to let this go. The team has no player on the roster under the age of 26. So it's not like they took other rookies instead of Clark.

It was a terrible, terrible look for the decision makers, one of which publicly admitted it was a mistake in hindsight on national primetime television.

Additionally, apparently Angel Reese and Caitlin worked over the national team in scrimmages.

If the team struggles there should be some serious changes made to either the selection process and/or the people involved in the process.

The WNBA completely botched the Caitlin Clark onboarding.....it had no idea how to manage an incoming superstar and the situation was exacerbated by the olympic team selection nonsense.

US just set a WR in the 4x400 mixed relay. I don't know how long that's been an event, but the American lady running the anchor absolutely smoked her competitors.
Just saw that too. Didn’t know this was an actual event, but dayum, that was some kind of speed for the US team

I mostly keep it on mute watching these except for the shorter races (I'm not listening to the entire live call of a marathon), but I thought the announcers said that the US got disqualified during their heat in Tokyo. Maybe that's why the event hasn't gotten more attention in these parts.

It’s turning people away from the Olympics
Viewership is up 79% from Tokyo
No one is being turned away by this. You’re right. My bad

You can't please everyone. Clearly there are people who are turned off and not watching but it is also clear that those people are a small small population.

Every Olympics there is some group that gets all upset about something and yells as loudly as possible that this is the worst thing to ever happen and society is doomed.
it is a shame that the controversial opening ceremonies has caused some to tune out. these athletes have worked for years to represent their countries and do not deserve to be let down for something beyond their control. I support the athletes, not the IOC or French Olympic committee.

Is anybody still outraged? So dumb.
I’m fine. But some things bother people that doesn’t bother you. Not sure that makes it dumb

Hard disagree. Being outraged over an artistic expression is the epitome of dumb, especially when you live in a land that cherishes, reveres and champions freedom of religion, speech and expression.
I’m sure there’s some things in this planet that outrage you and doesn’t bother others a bit

👍

Oh for sure. I mean, the Pet Peeves thread is full of my stupid bloviating. I am fully aware that most of these are dumb. And wouldn't be upset if you told me I was dumb for being bothered.

like 100 pitches?

EXACTLY! :lmao:

Huge whiff from Patrick...I'm sure he'd like to redact that if he could. Even members of the selection committee are walking it back....as the US struggled against the likes of Belgium.

And again, what makes Phelps the GOAT swimmer is precisely what that dolt Sand is saying - the breast stroke is such a difficult stroke to master and is the undoing of so many great swimmers who attempt the medley.
I see what you're attempting here, but my initial statement stands. Breaststroke is for... well, maybe I can't finish that statement in these halls.

We had 10 days in Arizona with a pool so I taught my kids the easiest swim stroke for lazy folks - Elementary Backstroke! Great for fat guys who can float. You besmirch the frog kick again in here and we will have problems.
Backstroke is, of course, the stroke of masters and kings. To fly down the pool without the help of sight. Heck, in my day, one had to do the turn from your back. None of this flipping over nonsense.

I besmirch not the frog kick - it is the favorite of metrosexuals everywhere. Who can argue with that?

Ah, I see....the backstroke. I'm guessing once you got out of the pool, you combed your mullet, donned your best grey tank top, put on your yellow Walk-Man and cranked up Sister Christian or something from REO Speedwagon. Later on, you got into your mid-80s Dodge Fiero that belonged to your brother Carl and had rips in the seats and contemplated a rat-tail for homecoming, where you were taking a gal who belonged to 4H and liked to chew.

Dodge Fieros are super rare

The US women BB have 95%+ implied odds of winning their 8th straight gold medal and have won something like 60 straight olympic games. Its really a non-issue for them to give a few of the old birds some glory while the youngsters wait their turn. I can't imagine being so upset about a player selection issue that I'd go turncoat and be rooting for them to lose. That's strange man.

Not in 1986 when Sand was just starting to be able to grow peach fuzz on his upper lip to match his stringy long hair in the back.
