***Paris 2024 Summer Olympics: July 26-August 11*** USA dominates medal count; Finish tied w/ China for most golds - See ya in Milan 2026! (3 Viewers)

By 1924, 100 years ago, the Olympics had featured:

Basque Pelato (?)
Cricket
Croquet
Horse High Jump
Hot Air Balloon Racing
Live Pigeon Shooting
Motorboat Racing
Pistol Dueling
Polo
Plunge for Distance (Diving)
Rope Climbing
Swimming Obstacle Race
Tug of War

And as a test event in 1900 - Poodle Clipping

Times change, and so does the landscape of what we consider sport. We old codgers will just have to learn to deal with it.
Cricket will be back at the Olympics in 2028 and 2032.
The shorter format of the game (T20) is much more friendly to the Olympics.
It’s also the only way that India can get a ****ing medal

So question for our FootieBallGuys.

On the US goal, the goal scorer was onside. The other US player wasn't but wisely didn't play the ball and left it for the onside player. Offside player then ran at an angle across the goal mouth. When a defender finally passed her, she would become onsides again, right? Or did she have to not take part in the play even then?

Just asking to try to keep growing my understanding of the offsides rule which will always remain somewhat vague in some fashion to me it seems, heh.

"Not involved in the play" is really subjective. IMO the ball practically went thru the offside players legs, and the defense held their positions when the initial thru ball was played because they knew they had the US player trapped offside.

Both of those make the offside player "involved with the play". The US got lucky on the first count -- it easily could have been called (I thought it should have been). But the second one is never ever called (which I hate, and have been on an irrational, 1-man crusade against for a long time now).

It's hard to say what would have happened if the offside player had received a pass after she was onside again (once you're behind the ball you're always onside). Theoretically once she's onside she should be OK to receive a pass and score, but in reality it might have made VAR more uncomfortable about ignoring the initial offside when they reviewed the entire play.

Not true. India has a Silver and 4 Bronze. Could of had a Gold if the Female wrestler didn’t get disqualified for being 100 Grams overweight prior to her match for the Gold.

Does China have any more chances at adding Golds?
Yes a weightlifter is likely. That is supposedly it.

Women’s basketball is practically a sure thing for USA.

USA then has three decent chances (not favorites) at gold medals: Kennedy blades in wrestling, women’s volleyball, and a female cyclist

At least according to a tweet I saw

Wow. One whole silver and 4 bronzes.
For a nation of 1.4 Billion.
Fiji has a silver. So does Kosovo. Panama etc.
Kyrgyzstan Has two.

Even Guatemala, Domenica and Bahrain have a gold.
New Zealand and its 5 million population has 9 of the ****ing things.

India does lots of things well. Olympics isnt one of them.
Add Cricket and you would have the nation of India tuning in like they actually care about the Olympics

Anyone have a link to her breakdancing performance? As someone who used to partake in "the sport", I need to see the tape. This sounds hilarious
Let's see. This is the best I can do. Ignore the idiotic commentary.

The squeaky shoes are fabulous.

WTF were they thinking? Fortunately, this will not be an event in LA.

NBC is striking everything. Wish they knew how the internet works with viral moments. If they are going to takedown all outside clips, at least post them in a timely fashion and let us watch.
Guess they didn't get this one. https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/1eoe4hb/raygun_you_breakdance_yes_yes_i_do_watch_this/
They have now. Idiots.

It's bad when the Google animation is better than the "Olympians".

The spectators running along with the marathoners is really annoying to me
Eh. Doesn't bother me. As long as they don't interfere with the racers, what difference does it make?

That women's marathon was outstanding. Completely worth waiting for.

And I mentioned before the Games that I wanted to see Sha’Carri Richardson. She did not disappoint.

They may not have gold medals, but you could likely be working for them tomorrow.

A very educated populace.
