I think they were kicked off because they are Jewish, because the entire plane of random people are anti-semitic ...is his delusional point.Family kicked off of plane for being stinky.
That is good to hear actually. Have had the bad luck of being stuck next to a stinky passenger. It is miserable.
he is throwing out stinky bait.I think they were kicked off because they are Jewish, because the entire plane of random people are anti-semitic ...is his delusional point.
Bro if you ain’t slurping then you ain’t Ramening....ing...At the KAL lounge in LAX last night and the ramen slurping was off the hook.![]()
This is gonna make me sound like a self righteous so-and-so or whatnot, and I like your story because I've been there and just suffered through it, but does his ethnicity matter or add in a meaningful way to the story? There was an Indian dude at work that stunk up the whole gym every time he worked out. Everybody was too shy to say something but not me. The smell made me nauseous. So I told him he stinks, everybody complains about him and he needs to change his workout clothes every day. He was shocked and started laughing but I will tell you he started wearing clean gym clothes every day after that and never smelled again. Several people thanked me. It was pretty awkward when I was in a meeting with him several months after that though.
your initial thought was on the money. This is gonna make me sound like a self righteous so-and-so or whatnot, and I like your story because I've been there and just suffered through it, but does his ethnicity matter or add in a meaningful way to the story?
This is gonna make me sound like a self righteous so-and-so or whatnot, and I like your story because I've been there and just suffered through it, but does the dogs breed matter or add in a meaningful way to the story? The last flight I took a woman on it had an English Bulldog service animal. It was one of those fake comfort animals or whatever they called them becuase there is a 0% chance that bulldog has any actual job. The dog was barely staying alive by itself, wheezing, drooling, and gasping the entire flight. It was louder than a baby. Those dogs are disgusting. I was 7 or so rows away and still smelled its breath. Now this isn't peacock service animal level, but how can anyone convince an airline that a dog that shouldn't even be alive is somehow performing some task to keep its owner healthy?
Indian dudes often eat a lot of curry. People who eat a lot of curry often smell strongly. I say this as someone who’s best friend is Indian and who has been a “groomsman” in a Sikh wedding. This is gonna make me sound like a self righteous so-and-so or whatnot, and I like your story because I've been there and just suffered through it, but does his ethnicity matter or add in a meaningful way to the story?
I almost choked on my coffee just now. Christ. Well done, sir! This is gonna make me sound like a self righteous so-and-so or whatnot, and I like your story because I've been there and just suffered through it, but does the dogs breed matter or add in a meaningful way to the story?
Let's be clear, I owned it in advance. I also want to be abundantly clear that I am not calling @shadyridr out. Dude's a great poster and I'm a fan.Indian dudes often eat a lot of curry. People who eat a lot of curry often smell strongly. I say this as someone who’s best friend is Indian and who has been a “groomsman” in a Sikh wedding.
These two factors aid the storyteller in painting a visual in the readers mind, so, yes.... it adds in a meaningful way.
So, yes, you sound like a self-righteous so and so.
Indians here eat a lot of indian food too.Let's be clear, I owned it in advance. I also want to be abundantly clear that I am not calling @shadyridr out. Dude's a great poster and I'm a fan.
Perhaps Indian people in India eat a lot of curry but I am not certain we can say the same about Indian people in Staten Island.
I think it is fair to suggest that all it added was an unintentional reinforcement of racial stereotypes. We all do it and if we believe that the way to true equality is to treat people the same then we must examine how we treat them differently.
We don't have to change it necessarily but we should the language we use. It matters.
All of them? Every meal?Indians here eat a lot of indian food too.
Yes.All of them? Every meal?
Do people who eat a lot of fast food have b.o.? Do people from Kentucky have b.o.? What about Finn's? They eat pickled herring all the time, do they get b.o.?
Do you ever have b.o.?
I am sorry that you view it as a soap box. I am not holding myself above anyone, I do exactly the same things and have become increasingly aware of that fact.Yes.
Dont know people from kentucky or any finn's.
Yes, i have had BO.
Do you rub your soap box on you to keep from getting stinky?
*triggered*All of them? Every meal?

It is one thing to point out that a guy is indian so he must be smelly. It is a whole nother thing to say that the indian dude i worked with really smelled.I am sorry that you view it as a soap box. I am not holding myself above anyone, I do exactly the same things and have become increasingly aware of that fact.
Or he could have just been stating a fact. He may well have done it if it was a caucasian, or a heavy set guy, or a girl. There's a lot of assumption being made on your part. So I'm not sure it is "fair" at all.I think it is fair to suggest that all it added was an unintentional reinforcement of racial stereotypes.
Of course but that is a much smaller distinction than saying the dude I worked with really smelled. It is one thing to point out that a guy is indian so he must be smelly. It is a whole nother thing to say that the indian dude i worked with really smelled.
Sure, it's possible although the next time I read a post in the FFA saying how a Caucasian dude smelled really bad (or whatever) will be the first time. Most of the "white people did..." stuff is in the PSF.Or he could have just been stating a fact. He may well have done it if it was a caucasian, or a heavy set guy, or a girl. I understand where you're coming from and I'm guilty of this from time to time although I have been better at catching myself these days. Not because its a ever increasingly PC world, but because its systematic and unintentional (on my part) racism.Sure, it's possible although the next time I read a post in the FFA saying how a Caucasian dude smelled really bad (or whatever) will be the first time. Most of the "white people did..." stuff is in the PSF.
And, again, to be very clear the assumption I made was that it represented unintentional racism. I have been clear that I ascribe zero malice to the story.
Of course not. A lot of stereotypes have some truth to them. A lot of the IT staff in my company smells like BO. My good buddy who is Pakistani does not.Serious question, if I think that on average I am more likely to run into an Indian that smells worse than the random white or black person I run into is that racist?
It's not like you posted pics of the smelly guy in his yoga pants.Holy crap @Chaka
Get over yourself. I talk on these boards like I talk to my friends. I thought it was ok to make non PC or stereotypical comments or off color jokes in the presence of friends. I must've missed the memo I had to be PC here too. I didn't realize this was a job interview.
I had an Austrian client who we were prepping for a trial and I had to tell him that he needed to wear deodorant during the trial since we would be sitting so close to the jury box. It was awkward because of the subject matter, and the fact that I worked for him, but he followed my instructions and all went swimmingly. After a weeklong trial, the jury ruled in our favor.Sure, it's possible although the next time I read a post in the FFA saying how a Caucasian dude smelled really bad (or whatever) will be the first time.
It did spice up the story. This is gonna make me sound like a self righteous so-and-so or whatnot, and I like your story because I've been there and just suffered through it, but does his ethnicity matter or add in a meaningful way to the story?

Hopefully he doesn’t become your boss someday! There was an Indian dude at work that stunk up the whole gym every time he worked out. Everybody was too shy to say something but not me. I'm not sure, what do you think?Serious question, if I think that on average I am more likely to run into an Indian that smells worse than the random white or black person I run into is that racist?
It’s a stereotype, which doesn’t equate to racist.I'm not sure, what do you think?
I never called anyone racist and was extremely careful not to suggest anyone was being intentionally racist. I sincerely don't think anyone here is racist or has intentionally acted in a racist manner.djmich said:It’s a stereotype, which doesn’t equate to racist.
There are lots of stereotypes. Some reflecting positive beliefs of a group of people, some more negative. They can be true or false.
As with everything, multiplied by 10 these days, bad people will use them for bad things and dumb people will use them for dumb things.
Stereotypes that imply one race is better than another or how a group behaves or acts in a negative light would seem to be racist or just plain bad.
A stereotype about the smell of a preferred food for a poplulation seems not racist.
Does that help you?
You're welcome.Dedfin said:Holy crap this thread got murdered. Thanks, you know who.
Yah, maybe my last sentence was unclear, I was asking if my response helped you form an opinion, since you said you weren’t sure. It wasn’t intended to require a personal defense, understand why you would interpret it that way.I never called anyone racist and was extremely careful not to suggest anyone was being intentionally racist. I sincerely don't think anyone here is racist or has intentionally acted in a racist manner.
I said that it unintentionally promoted racial stereotypes and your response, while helpful, does not disabuse that notion.
Same thing happened to me on Air Canada. Watching Ex Machina - had no idea and they left all the glorious parts. I guess the answer is yes, though unintentionally? I felt like one.culdeus said:This might be an AITA question, but on a flight to Korea they had a tv in back of seat. They had a Showtime show in the inflight system that I can't even remember the name of right now with some just full on sex. Some story about a hitman with a hot girlfriend.
Was seated next to someone from SE Asia that culturally this was probably way over the line. The screen had sort of a privacy screen but odds were she got an eyefull.
AITA?
Had to look it up to remember. Quarry.culdeus said:This might be an AITA question, but on a flight to Korea they had a tv in back of seat.
