Two things about the Temple of Solaris in Act 3. First, very cool atmosphere. It is very immersive and has such an odd, eerie feel to it. Almost Lord of the Rings-style music/feel.Second, COULD YOU HAVE A FEW BIGGER CONSECUTIVE LEVELS WITHOUT A WAYPOINT, #####ES?!?! Seriously, that was frustrating. Made it through without dying by I wanted to end and no way I was doing it over again, so I kept on going.

Solaris Temple is my favorite zone in the game now, love the design love the mobs. But I agree its ridiculous, if I'm ever on and you are at act 3 and need the solaris waypoint, don't hesitate to pm me for the waypoint.

Is the way point a drop? I have seen anything like that in Act 1 or 2 yet. I just use portal scrolls if needed.

Waypoints are found on the ground in certain zones and are part of the zone itself, not items.You can get an idea of what a waypoint looks like in the encampment, there is a waypoint in each of the encampments on your minimap it looks like a blue circle.

And if you aren't using your minimap, start. You'll see waypoint and doors and zone changes from some distance away. Press tab to bring up the minimap.

He's just saying he'd party with him and give him a portal to the waypoint so he could skip the rest, I think.

I would happily take anyone up on waypoints for the rest of Act 3. I think I missed the battlegrounds one, and spent a moment in docks but would love any and all if possible.Do you keep waypoints from difficulty to difficulty? Or do you get to discover the maps all over again?I will be honest, one of the hardest things I have with games is the whole start it all over again now at a harder level as built into the game. With my time at a premium for me, I would rather have new content rather than same old, but we shall see. Very well done game.

As I just started cruel, I can tell you that you have to get them all again. I have all the ones for Act 3 if you're playing on normal.

You keep any waypoints found for each respective difficulty, say you had the normal mudflats waypoint and when you completed normal and went in to cruel difficulty you would then have to find the cruel mudflats waypoint.But at any time you can traverse back to previous difficulties using waypoints.And to the above yes thats what I meant, Solaris temple is a huge zone with 3 floors, at the end of the 3rd floor happens to be a quest NPC that you have to turn in two different quests to. Fortunately she is like 10 feet from the Solaris Temple waypoint, so if someone groups with you, portals from the waypoint you essentially skip the three floors of content and get straight to the quest turn in.

I joned a party for the first time just to see what it is like. What is the etiquette when playing groups? I see some item drops with my characters name attached to them with what looks like some sort of count down clock. Do I have exclusive rights to that item during the window that the timer is counting down?

Everyone one of them are thieving bastards. Start your own party and kick everyone that "ninja's" items. This is why I play alone most of the time. DOesn't seem worth the trouble of fighting for gems and orbs.

what does it man to ninja items? I appeared to be able to pick up everything that had my name on it as long as I got to the item in time I think (it happened fast so I can't be totally sure).Is the timer my window for exclusivity to the item with my name attached to it or o people have a way to take the item even during the timer window (ninjaing?)?

I thought, but not sure, when people talk about rolling, it goes all the way back to D@D where you actually rolled diced to determine your stats. People I think still use that term when referring to how the computer program will randomize stats.

The loot system sucks, and is the biggest complaint about the game. You basically get a couple of seconds to pick up anything with your name on it, then it's a free for all. If you're ranged, you're probably too far away to get anything, it's that fast. People will then pick up anything valuable as quick as they can, this is what people are referring to when they mention ninjas. People will also run ahead of the group and kill things and pick up anything of value. There is no rolling for items, that's something that happens/happened in WoW. It's a better system. Either that's what they're talking about, or they're talking about RNG (Random number generator) which is how the game determines what you get. It's not you rolling, it's the game rolling every time you kill something or open a chest. Think of it like 1-100, maybe 98-100 = unique; 88-98 = rare; 70 - 88 = magic, anything lower is white. I just made those numbers up, but that's essentially how it works. You'll sometimes see people complaining about RNG and their luck with it. For example, not finding a unique through level 44 like someone in this thread could be considered getting screwed by RNG, but it can really be much worse than that. The game rolls separately each time, so it's possible to never get a unique, though unlikely.

Ah, this reminded me of something else they could be talking about. It is possible, with Divine orbs, I believe, to re-roll the variable stats on an item. People will try to do this if they get a really good item that could have much better stats.

Sure, you get through the content a lot faster, you can skip right to the boss, better loot drops, and boss fights are much easier. For instance, I was under leveled when I did Vaal. Instead of grinding, I just joined a party, went right to him and killed him. I didn't get any worthwhile loot, but I got to the next act quicker than I would have otherwise. If you ever find yourself hitting a wall, it makes sense to join a party, even though you might get screwed on loot. We should just form FBG parties. A couple of people have friended me over there, MadCow and someone who loves his big green egg, if I'm reading his username right. I usually play under Smuch or Aristophne.

For those of you who have played with archers, could you look at this perspective passive tree build and provide any advice? This combines my first 20 points I have used with trying to plan out my next 40 or so.

I would remove those and put them towards the two 8% health nodes that lead to the 18% health node. i would also remove 4 nodes that avoid burning and shock, I would remove alchemist as well. I removed a few more and here is how I would go for now: My link. I would head towards piercing shot and then i would work on getting evasion, armor and health. Not sure how you feel about then converting all evasion over to armor but its something to think about. If you are going to be built on speed and crits cold/chill effects are what will kill you in merciless. As soon as your attacks slow you get wrecked.

I am trying to understand why I did not want the life options I chose originally.It looks like when building I want to stay away from groups of nodes that lead no where unless they have a bigger icon in the group making it worthwhile to end the string. Is that the basic idea?

Yes and because you had the option of getting towards a much better payoff with the large 18% health node. I just try to get as much bang for my buck as possible.

Its how densely the area is populated with numerous mini boss mobs and because of the layout you mentioned how quickly you can clear it and thus reset and repeat.

It's really easy and I can take off my real gear and put increased item rarity and quantity gear on? That's my guess.

That I am not sure of other than what I have experienced. I get very good drops and xp from the ledge. Now is that because thats where I farm the most? Not sure.

I'm guessing it is roughly the same. The thing about the ledge, is it is a straight line, when you compare it to open areas, you spend a fair amount of time setting up for mobs when you are getting attacked from all sides (docks), or navigating through a maze (dread thicket/catacombs and docks to a lesser extent).You won't get a big chest to spawn like you can in areas like dread thicket/catacombs tho, so for xp I would do ledge and for farming items I would do something like the thicket or catacombs.new farming trick, for your second weapon layout, get a 3 socket linked wand and shield combo (either wand or shield is 3 linked: blue=blue=red), attach power siphon w/ item quality + item rarity support gems, when (mini-)boss gets to under 10% health, click x and then power siphon for improved loot (culling strike is attached to power siphon gem)

Multiple reasons the only one of which that matters for public groups is faster progress.Partying with people that agree to not jack each others loot is a great thing, they structured the group and loot mechanics intentionally this way. Diablo 2 had no timer, as soon as something dropped, anyone could pick it up instantly, that influenced this system a ton - I agree however that it is not good in its current state, the distance timer is not well tuned enough and the fact that people can body block each other is outrageous...But the biggest benefit to partying is for every player in the party you get an additional 50% increased item quantity... two people = double loot, four people = triple loot, full party = quadruple the loot.This is a huge bonus.

I'm doing cruel right now, but that's just because it's as far as I've gotten. I think I'll stop when I get 4 levels above it, because the link JoJo had shows diminishing returns on xp after that. Don't know about Merciless, some of the guys that have been playing for months can answer that.

I have been farming the Ledge on normal (since that is as far as I have progressed). I am not farming for experience as it does not move my experience bar at all (I am way about the level of the ledge), but doing it to continue to fill up my orb and quality improvement pieces.

Here's an interesting tip I just found out.You know when you trade in a necklace + red + green + blue you get a L20 Onyx necklace (+x to all attributes)?Well the resulting Onyx necklace iLevel you get is the same iLevel as the necklace you gave them.So if you are trying to get a good rare via Alch or roll the dice on the unique with a chance you can get a base onyx with a high iLevel if you choose your necklace properly.Only reason I know this is I traded in an iLevel 16 necklace and got back an iLevel 16 Onyx (which was odd considering Onyx are L20 items).

pick an item up with your cursor and then in the chat box type: /itemlevel it will then be displayed in the chat box.

Here's an interesting tip I just found out.You know when you trade in a necklace + red + green + blue you get a L20 Onyx necklace (+x to all attributes)?Well the resulting Onyx necklace iLevel you get is the same iLevel as the necklace you gave them.So if you are trying to get a good rare via Alch or roll the dice on the unique with a chance you can get a base onyx with a high iLevel if you choose your necklace properly.Only reason I know this is I traded in an iLevel 16 necklace and got back an iLevel 16 Onyx (which was odd considering Onyx are L20 items).

Works the same for rings as well.Iron ring + a gem will give you a saphire (blue gem), ruby (red gem) or topaz (green gem).It will retain the ilvl of the iron ring.

How does one determine what the item level is? I can't seem to locate the stat when I look at my gear.

pick an item up with your cursor and then in the chat box type: /itemlevel it will then be displayed in the chat box.

Thanks!I assume item level is different from level requirement, right?Why is the ilevel a somewhat hidden stat? I have read online that two items can have identical stats and yet have different ilevels which seems strange.

I was laying waste to things starting up Cruel and then went into the Fetid Bog or whatever and am just getting pVVn3d. Making me angry. I have 6 unspent passive points sitting open, so might need to drop them in life and armor.I am eying the cluster for rangers with a 24% armor and evasion bonus. Thoughts? I can be there immediately.

Psychologically, I love to dump a few at a time. I am also trying to decide where and what.
