The Patriots' game on Dec. 4 vs. the Indianapolis Colts has been changed to a 1 p.m. start, the NFL announced today.

The game was originally scheduled as the featured game on Sunday Night Football, but the Colts, off to an 0-9 start, have become a considerably less attractive opponent.

The NFL did not say which game would replace Patriots-Colts as the Sunday nighter. The replacement will be announced no later than Nov. 22.

That would probably be the most exciting lineup considering what FOX/CBS would probably protect.

people are saying no way Fox gives up NYG/GB.....I would think they would feel the same way or even stronger about the DET/NOS game.....

You may be thinking about this strictly from a perspective of the quality of the teams, and importance of the game. I would agree that in that respect they are equally significant matchups. But there is more at play. First, NFC East teams are all in big markets and draw huge ratings. It's why you will never see an NFC East matchup flexed out of SnF. They are ratings gold. The Packers are also a big ratings draw, but to a lesser extent. So strictly from a ratings perspective, the Packers-Giants game wins in a landslide. Second, they can afford to lose the Lions-Saints game, because it is a 1pm game. The majority of primary markets are going to be showing the home team at that time anyways, and there is a second quality game (Falcons-Texans) to show in non-primary markets as well. If they lost the Packers-Giants game they would be stuck with Rams-Niners or Cards-Cowboys at 4pm. (Although any Cowboys game is not going to be the end of the world for FOX in terms of ratings, reguardless of opponent)Lastly, I believe shadyridr is correct the protections being chosen at the beginning of the season, but I'm not certain.

According to this report, the games are chosen after week 4 (for this year).http://bleacherreport.com/articles/923292-sunday-night-football-flex-scheduling-watch-week-8

NEW YORK -- The Lions and Saints are moving to prime time.

The Dec. 4 game between Detroit and New Orleans will be played on "Sunday Night Football" on NBC. The Colts-Patriots matchup originally was in that slot, but the NFL had previously announced it was shifting the game to earlier in the day under the league's flexible scheduling policy.

On Monday, the NFL said that the meeting between two NFC playoff contenders would take its place.

Also in Week 13, Ravens-Browns moves to 4:05 p.m. EST on CBS, while Broncos-Vikings shifts to 1 p.m. on Fox.

The NFL can use flex scheduling to ensure meaningful matchups Sunday night starting in Week 10.

Jeez, how long has it been since Al Michaels called a Lions game?

Well shoot some of us would LOVE to see the NE defense destroy the Colts offense in the last game of the day.

Seriously, the Lions & Saints as the no.1 available prime time game? My how times have changed. Someone trot out Bill Munson.

Now all they need to do is flex schedule tonights NE-KC game off MNF
And get rid of Pitt/KC next Sunday night too. KC 2 weeks of primetime in a row? Tyler Palko married to someone high up in the NFL offices?

As a Steeler fan, I cant complain about seeing them for a night game. Its a bad matchup though, otherwise. It does have an interesting backstory though (which they will likely hammer us with repeatedly sunday night). Palko, Breaston, and Jon Baldwin are all from the Pittsburgh area and were pretty big recruits, and of course both Palko and Baldwin played at Pitt.

Steelers have a nationwide following. KC has a KC following. Ex Pitt Panthers have a U of Pitt following. All that adds up to the bulk of the country having no interest in this game.
