Peter King says he thinks Dallas seriously considering Romo (1 Viewer)

Peter King just came on and said "in his opinion" Bill Parcells is "seriously considering" going with Tony Romo as his starting quarterback. Now, of course, King gave no credit to Chris Mortensen who has been out in front of this story for two weeks. When Mort started talking about it I thought he was making a story out of nothing, but if PK has picked up on it, you can bet there's a least one "little birdy" in the Cowboys organization who isn't denying the story.

Obviously take this with a huge grain of salt, but now that Mort and PK are saying it, my ears have perked up.

If Parcells does replace Bledsoe, I believe the Cowboys will be in the Super Bowl.

I'd like to see how TO likes catching passes from a guy who has never thrown a pass in a regular season game before. A far cry from McNabb. This may accelerate the inevitable TO implosion

Of course this is all speculation on Peter King's part but it is interesting nonetheless.

bledsoe will start, if he falters a good deal you know he's getting the YANK.

i dont think romo is the answer but his ability to move around is really impressing Parcells.

:lmao: In other news, the Panthers are considering Stephan LeFors to replace Delhomme.
Hey Bass,This is probably B.S. but don't completely discount this. Mort has been saying this for almost two weeks and Peter King would've been doing everything in his power to check on the validity. Love or hate PK, he's plugged into Parcells (always has been) and likely went to the Cowboys after Mort started saying this to anyone who would listen, expecting to hear a denial. The fact he's now agreeing with Mort and doing so in an open forum tells me this isn't random speculation. These two guys don't both go out on an unconventional call like this without there being internal sources fueling that story. My $0.02

Parcells tends to go with the veterans, so I'd be a bit surprised if he went with Romo out of the gate.

I think he goes with Bledsoe and if he struggles by Week 4, he's on a real short leash.

The only problem right now is, how can you judge any QBs with the healthy WRs the Cowpokes have?

Bledsoe should start, but be kept on a very short leash. Any regression to some of the nonsense that occurred last season and I'd start Romo right away.

Exactly. I love how people here just discount guys like King because he's made stupid FF picks before.Guy is as tuned into what happens in the league as anybody out there. I'd listen up.

Some information that I have heard is that early on in training camp, Beldose and TO had a heated arguement about something. Right after that disagreement, TO started sitting out with his hamstring injury. Heard this from Howard Eskin here in Philly.

Just throwing this out there, but could the fact that Romo has appeared to move above Beldsoe have anything to do with TO?

I think the combination of Mort making this call...King backing it up two weeks later, and the controversial nature of the call makes this A LOT more valid than people are giving it credit for here.

He did go out of his way to point out that NO ONE in dallas was saying this. Also, has parcells ever just turned his team over to someone with no NFL passes? I just don't see it. The guy had one good preseason game, I think PK is trying to scoop everyone on this and he's off.Sure, if Bledsoe stinks they could yank him, but that goes for every player at every position on a parcells team. Does anyone believe Parcells would say "I don't need to see Bledsoe in the first preseason game" and then just because Romo looks pretty good he'd give him the job?Not I.

Again...PK is scooping no one on this. Chris Mortensen has been saying this in every interview he's done for the last two weeks. PK would have easily and happily crowed about "ridiculous rumors" of Tony Romo challenging Bledsoe; instead he's jumping on the story too. HUGE difference than if PK just came on and said this with no one else making the same claim.

OK I realize Parcells handed his team to Bledsoe when he had no passes, so strike that part.Still, this doesn't sound like a Parcells move. Lets at LEAST be skeptical of anyone predicting a new QB until the old one has had a chance to play a preseason game.

NO WAY this happens. The Cowboys are taking a long look at Romo b/c his contract expires at the end of this year, and they want to see if he shows enough to re-sign him as a backup (ala Jason Garrett).

This is the best Cowboy team Dallas has had in years. Bledsoe was fine last year. Romo ain't starting.

I agree. This stuff makes for good preseason unfounded gossip. Nothing more.Kinda surprised at some of the "seasoned vets" around here reacting to this.

This has been the rumor on Dallas radio since Romo went the distance (and looked sharp) against Seattle last weekend.

I personally don't feel like Romo will start in 2006 until Bledsoe is injured OR if the Dallas O-Line shows that they are unable to pass-protect for an immobile QB.

I say "tap the brakes" on this one.

You mean, besides Bledsoe in his rookie year?

:goodposting:Another thing. Someone mentioned how TO would like catching passes from Romo... IMO there would be virtually no chance of Romo handling TO, but there is a chance that Bledsoe can.

Let's just say that I was quite disappointed by this. Though it is conjecture on King's part, to even hear it mentioned does not make me a happy camper. As many did, I had Bledsoe ranked pretty high this year. He quietly put up good numbers last year, and then they add TO into the mix. It surprises me that the coaches would lose confidence in him and even consider starting Romo (again, assuming that's true).

What has Bledsoe done to lose the confidence of the coaching staff??

Not a big Bledsoe fan but if Romo does take the lead then I think he will be the one on the short leash. NO WAY does he get more than a couple of dodo mistakes before he gets yanked.

Do the vets on this Dallas team totally get behind a guy with so little experience?

Either way, if this does go down there is a greater chance that there will be problems all over BIG D and a team with a good chance at making a run, could totally implode.

QB Drama + PO'd TO + Bill being "shopping for groceries Bill" = Dallas & Jerry Jones being right back where they were 2 years ago.

Bledsoe doesn't have too much left in the tank. He's almost 35 years old, and can't really move on the field. If they put him on the bench, it will be a huge waste of talent and experience. The Cowboys look to be a solid team this year with 2 talented RBs, a pro-bowl TE, 2 pro-bowl WRs and stingy defense. Now is the time to put the best you've got on the field. No way does Romo get a start over Bledsoe until the Cowboys see a non-playoff capable record.

Wow! If PK and CM are both saying this I suppose I should cut Bledsoe and grab Romo. Or not since neither PK nor CM are associated with personnel decisions for Dallas. Whew! I nearly overreacted there for a minute. :banned:

I can't speak for Bass, but what I'm LMAO at is the irony of listening to the "Drew Bledsoe is a great fantasy QB this year, Cowboys are going to the Super Bowl, the Bills were idiots for getting rid of him" all offseason. The Cowboys are learning the same thing the Bills did: Drew Bledsoe will never lead you to the promised land anymore and you're actually better off going with a young guy to see what you've got. :lmao:

Just make sure you understand what they're saying. They're saying Romo is being seriously considered. And when Peter King and Chris Mortensen are saying that, I listen. You may not. That's cool.J

That's really what I am wondering...But if I remember hearing King right, part of it is that Bledsoe seems to be standing there rather statue-esque, and not moving around at all.

Right. This is Bledsoe we're talking about. Still waiting to hear what has changed about him.

Excellent point, capella.Let people do what they do. Don't hold the peripheral stuff against them. Sure, King is goofy when he says take Manning with the #1 pick. He doesn't know fantasy football. But that doesn't mean he's not plugged into who will start for the Cowboys. That kind of stuff he does know. Confuse those two at your own risk.J

Wow, "Mort" and "PK?" You must be in the loop of insider information.
 Please go P in your toilet and not in the Shark Pool. Wood is one of the best on the FBG staff and your smartass remarks are not needed. Thanks for playing and have a great season.Switz brought this up in another thread and I concur...the tool factor in the Shark Pool seems to be especially high right now.

I have a bet that Aaron Brooks will be a better fantasy QB then Bledsoe this year. To have a real hope to win, I'm going to need Romo to send Bledsoe to the bench, I think.
