Peyton Manning (1 Viewer)

FBG staff don't have original thinkers, or anyone with true insight into football scouting. Cecil tried to be a pretend scout with peyton and failed miserably, and the herd mentality that FBG staff has made everyone else fail miserably too.

I seem to remember Cecil saying good things about Peyton over the summer . . . and I think Peyton has played fairly well this season.

:goodposting: Granted I don't come in here as much as I used to, but I seem to remember all the talk was fairly good as well. I remember hearing that there would be shaky moments at the beginning as he shakes the rust off, and that he'll get better as the season rolls on as he starts gelling with his new teammates and the schedule eases up. Maybe I remember wrong, but I think they were pretty accurate with regards to Manning. Yes, he has exceeded almost everyone'e expectations, but you can't fault FBG's for that.

Huge miss by FBGs staff. Specifically Cecil Lammey. Seems like FBG staff has more misses than hits. Discuss
an interesting take.let's see what Cecil actually had to say RE: Manning in the pre-season:

Denver Broncos Training Camp Report 2012

Day One, 7/26/2012

QUARTERBACKS

Peyton Manning – He continued the progress he showed in minicamps/OTAs today. Manning started the practice by showing some hand signals and explaining audibles to his other QBs. All three, Osweiler, Hanie, Weber, listen intently whenever Manning takes the time to show them something. He received a huge ovation once he stepped on the football field. Dove Valley had a record 4,371 attendance today and the sidelines were packed with orange jerseys. Manning was peppering passes to the sideline, showing good zip and velocity on his throws. He scrambled once at practice, and threw at least two passes away. If the play is not there then Manning’s not going to force it. However, the throwing windows don’t have to be that big for Manning to fit a pass into the right spot. WR Eric Decker would only get a small crease of daylight when CB Champ Bailey was covering him yet Manning could (and was willing to) fit the pass in. Manning threw deep a few times, hooking up on a couple of big TDs with WR Bubba Caldwell. Most throws were tight spirals and his arm didn’t show any sign of fatigue. Manning even threw across the field to WR Demaryius Thomas on an out route. That is arguably the second most difficult throw to make in the NFL (behind the 25-yard deep comeback). He showed great control on his passes, often putting the ball on the correct shoulder in stride.

Day Two, 7/27/2012

QUARTERBACKS

Peyton Manning – Had to move inside to the practice bubble because of the lightning, and Manning put on a show. Any questions about his arm strength were squelched (again) when he overthrew Jason Hill on a ‘9’ route down the left sideline. He is able to get the defense to jump offsides with his commanding cadence, and did a nice job adjusting to what he saw pre-snap. Executed a picture perfect play action pass to Eric Decker. Pass sailed about 45-yards and split two defenders for the TD. Manning’s window was less than the size of a basketball hoop but he put it right in Decker’s hands, splitting Tracy Porter and Quinton Carter. Plenty of zip on his passes to Demaryius Thomas all over the field. Fantastic day from Manning, Thomas, and Decker.

Day Four, 7/29/2012

QUARTERBACKS

Peyton Manning – Another clinic by Manning, although Champ Bailey had a stronger performance today. Ran great play fakes, and was able to draw the defense offsides with his barking cadence many times. Throws a nice fade route in the back corner of the end zone and guys like Joel Dreesen, Eric Decker, Jacob Tamme, and Demaryius Thomas took advantage. The wind started gusting towards the end of practice and Manning was still zipping the ball around the field. Manning trusts his arm, and will throw into incredibly tight windows. However, he’s smart enough to know when to throw it away and did that a couple of times in red zone drills.

Day Five, 7/30/2012

QUARTERBACKS

Peyton Manning – I would say this was his roughest day of camp, and he was still outstanding. Manning just had a couple of errant throws (outside to Dreesen, low to Thomas) that he’d want back. His drop and close is picture perfect, and of course his play action passes make me bite every time. Manning does a good job of spreading the ball around, but timing is still off with some guys (Caldwell, Thomas). It will just take time to get used to Caldwell’s speed and the size/routes of Thomas. Once again Manning was spot on with Eric Decker (more on that later) and they are really in sync out there on the football field.

Day Twelve, 8/6/2012

QUARTERBACKS

Peyton Manning – Looked crisp on some throws, but suffered some timing issues with Brandon Stokley and Jacob Tamme. One would think that wouldn’t be an issue with the former Colts, but it was today on a couple of incorrect routes. Questions about his arm strength were again put to rest when he overthrew Eric Decker on an 8 route. Manning looked good working within the pocket but has the mobility and accuracy to throw on the run if need be.

Day Thirteen, 8/7/2012

QUARTERBACKS

Peyton Manning – He seemed a little frustrated (although wouldn’t admit it after practice) with the team’s performance at the end of practice. They ran a two minute drill but the Broncos offense stalled at the four-yard line, and four incompletions ended the drill for the first team. Earlier in practice Manning was throwing with plenty of zip. Any doubts about his arm strength are unfounded. I’ve seen almost every throw from Manning this offseason and there’s no fatigue. He zipped one to Eric Decker on the right side on a quick out with Wesley Woodyard in tight coverage. Manning laid it out right into Decker’s outstretched arms and open hands. I asked Peyton if he had any thoughts, prayers, or guidance for the Eagles family as they deal with the tragic loss of Andy Reid’s son. The Colts went through a similar situation years ago when Tony Dungy lost his son. Manning’s comments are here: http://www.denverbroncos.com/multimedia/videos/Training-Camp-Day-13-Manning/5a5f7c40-ffd4-4461-ba1b-5bb5aacced0f

I talked about this on last night's show.

This 'can't throw to the right' report comes from John Clayton, Matt Williamson, and Bill Williamson. Clayton and I discussed it when he was out at Dove Valley a couple of weeks ago.

On a 9 route (go) Manning can put proper air under it, and can even throw with zip to the right or anywhere on the field. His 'window' throws (in front of Safety, over Linebacker) to that side don't look as good as the one's to the left. He's made these throws (and plenty of them) in practice.

In games he needs to get used to the speed again because his flutter passes come right, left, or middle. The reason they happen is when he tries to put a little extra spin on it. Any delay in a read or decision that is *just* a little late requires some extra emphasis from his arm and that type of window throw has resulted in some bobble throws.

He doesn't have a young man's arm. There has been no debate over that. I still think he's going to be more than fine when the rust has shaken off. The Broncos could start the season with a rough month of September, after that I expect them to find their groove.

Bottom line, he's not Chad Pennington and 'can't throw to the right' talk is seriously, SERIOUSLY, overblown. Clayton didn't overstate it in his report, it was just his observation from one day at camp. Manning's preseason has not looked as sharp as his practices, and that's on throws everywhere (especially to the middle).

2012 Volume#76a - Preseason Watch List - Broncos (#1630)

skip to the 3:10 mark

"to call it a lock he would get 4500 yards is absurd" right now he is on pace for 4800 yards

The reason he said "is absurd" was him responding to me in the chat when I said he would be a top 5 QB this year.

Keep drinking the FBG kool-aid every year they have huge misses, its time they hold their staff accountable for their misses.

as for the guy that said "Yes, he has exceeded almost everyone'e expectations, but you can't fault FBG's for that. "

You are proving my point that FBG staff has herd mentality and becoming pretty useless in general.

I need to subscribe to Uncle Bucks content. Post the link of all your rankings and thoughts on every player please, I'm sure there's not one single miss in there. Fantasy Gold for me and others I'm sure

remember when bloom said Cruz was just a fluke WR and "trade him while you can" lol.

As for me posting material, no thanks, Fear and loathing posted material better than FBGs own staff and was run off by the site owner.

it wasn't a lock by any means. I haven't listened to the podcasts, but there most certainly circumstances that a prudent forecaster should have looked at when evaluating Manning, beyond the arm/neck thing - older QB, moving onto a run-first team, playing for a coach who likes to run a lot, playing outdoors in a state where snow/weather can be an issue, with 3rd year WR's who had yet to show a full season of production. anyone who said Manning was a lock to throw for 4500 was high or had MoP level math skills.I think it would have been appropriate to forcast in the 4000-4500 range - I had him @ 4200, give or take, but if you didn't recognize the inherent risk with that number, maybe you shouldn't be playing fantasy football.

if you continue listening he says the broncos arent going to throw a lot with manning and be mainly a running team.

a prudent forecaster would have said to themselves "they just got one of the greatest QBs of all time and gave him a lot of money, they clearly want to make him the main guy"

that's what a wild-### guesser would have said, because that's nothing but a wild-### guess - far from a lock.BTW: the season is far from over. As Denver gets further into the easier part of the season and colder weather, it's still very possible that they run much more often - when they play with a lead, they will run. if the weather gets nasty, they will run. When safeties stay out of the box, they will run.

are you calling me a wild ###? Great counter argument.

4500+ is still not a lock - we haven't even hit any real winter weather yet. He's in DEN, not Indy.

Even Peyton was saying "don't expect much" in the preseason, he's been a pleasant surprise even to himself.

I would never make an assumption regarding the domestication of your ###. That doesn't mean you made some wild-### guesses, which happened to come up correct.

Couldn't agree more with Uncle Buck. I finally had to cut myself off from listening to FBG podcasts. I lurk on boards for some IDP info now and then. Passing on Peyton, going nuts for Antonio Gates and Brandon Lloyd. Taking Hillman in EVERY draft.. sigh.. I wish I could get some refunds in my pay leagues.

I think they basically called it nuts to expect Peyton to be a top 10 QB this year on the podcast. So I took Rivers instead LOL

Can't believe you spent this much time disproving an obvious fishing trip

what i say brohan is that you need to make your own power rankings and use them to destroy your opposition until they cry and then bam you are the champ and going out with the homecoming queen but if all you are going to do is complaint about how other guys did not do your work for you good enough well for starters that is jagbag central but two it means that you are not doing everything you can to do your job the best and that is not the american way captain bromerica so remember to take that to the bank and best of luck for the rest of the year

You can call me what you want. Obviously Uncle Buck has some sense of trolling in his posts. I am not trolling. I really drafted Rivers, passed on Peyton and took Hillman and Gates in almost every draft.

did you make your own list or just let others tell you what to do if your friends were jumping off a cliff into a pile of broken glass would you do that to the answer is probably no

remember when bloom said Cruz was just a fluke WR and "trade him while you can" lol. As for me posting material, no thanks, Fear and loathing posted material better than FBGs own staff and was run off by the site owner.
Run off by the site owner, hired away by a competitor... basically the same thing, right?F&L called Knowshon Moreno a top 10 dynasty RB and argued until he was blue in the face that he wasn't overdrafted, and that he absolutely had the burst to excel at the NFL level. The only people who never miss calls are the people who never make calls.

no i didnt make my own list.. i once paid for FBG to make lists for me. but i'll never spend that $30 again. I'd rather buy an economy box of envelopes than pay for FBG again.. and i havent mailed anything since I was in grade school and had a pen pal.

yea bugging the guy about arbitrary nonsense regarding his sig isnt running him off? No doubt if you make calls youre going to have misses but my point is FBG has way too many misses considering they are the top site for fantasy football. They need to use some of that money they havent earned and hire a more competent staff

i never had a pen pal i hope that your was from somewhere awesome and now i am sort of jealous bam you just pulled one over on me still you should have just made your own list so whamo bamo would not want to be you take that to the bank she was a bromerican girl

I am not hating on FBG, they do their thing and make money doing so. Good for them. I am just pointing out that I was once a fanboy like all of you and couldnt wait for thursday to come around for the podcast. I alway took the hits and misses and shrugged them off. This year was a whole different story though.. After week 4 I couldnt stomach listening to it anymore.

I have never once listened to a podcast so I can't defend that. I'm also not a subscriber so I won't defend that either. I will defend Cecils notes above - he was on top of Manning being sharp, and helped me to draft Peyton higher than I probably should have, but for far less than he has produced.

Can't believe you spent this much time disproving an obvious fishing trip
hint: it's all from the same thread.
Spending one second of your time responding to Uncle Buck seems like a waste of time...........
fanboi - Someone who is hopelessly devoted to something and will like anything associated with their particular thing.
I don't subscribe to FBG.............

Doesnt matter, he was wayyyyy off on how Denver would use manning. Stop making excuses for him

didnt you just say " Spending one second of your time responding to Uncle Buck seems like a waste of time........... " five mins ago? Then you respond to me, if you're going to troll someone for responding to me at least make sure you don't respond either

Admittedly I have nothing better to do right now. Responding to your idiocy doesn't seem like such a bad idea.
