Pizza Bagels, Genius! (2 Viewers)

Anyone that has followed Ben's career knows that he is expected to have 2 really awful games a year.  Usually against a team that is not considered "elite" or a division foe.  5 interceptions is a new one though.   I think people better get ready to accept that this might be his last year.

Even if you cut the INT's in half, they didn't stop Fournette at all so it would have been a dog fight

Go Raiders?

Pathetic display today.

No idea if Ben "still has it" or not, but I know he looks like he's 30 pounds overweight to me.  First time I've been able to see them play all year, and he looks a lot bigger than I remember him looking last year.

Heard the statement for the first time today, and I think he was just pissed during the interview.  Right after he says "maybe I don't have it anymore" he is asked if doubt is creeping in and he says "nope!".  Then answers a few more questions with one word... then I thought he did a good job of taking all the blame saying "I have to play better".

So yeah, his play sucked but he owned it.  Only talked about the deflected balls and his arm being hit when asked specifically about the plays he was picked.

I dunno, the play on the field bothers me much more than that comment after hearing it rather than reading it.

Ben obviously isn't playing well but the whole offense isn't either, including the offensive game plan.  There was absolutely no reason to throw the ball 55 times when playing against the #1 passing defense.   I thought after the Ravens game they would come out running against the Jags but that obviously was not the game plan.

I still have confidence they are going to find themselves but in my opinion we need to go into a game with a balanced attack.  I also think the offensive line has been awful both in pass protection and run blocking and that needs to improve ASAP.   Of course Ben's been off (seems a lot of balls are sailing on him) but the receivers don't seem to be getting much separation either.  I would also like to see the Steelers attack the middle of the field a bit more.

It will be interesting to see how the Steelers approach this week.  Their passing game is clearly struggling and it's going to be loud but KC's weakness is their pass defense so just the opposite of Jacksonville.

I get all the talk about Ben. 5 picks will do that. But a defense that got steamrolled late by both Chicago and Jacksonville is just as concerning if not more so. Seems like the LB corps is built for speed and to cover so a big back at the end of the game just dominates. This is not the Steelers defense we are used to. That D plus Ben's trailing off spells big problems. But it is not just on Ben, that's for sure.

Huge road win for the Steelers.  They need to keep things rolling against the Bengals.   A win puts them in the driver's seat for the division.

It was a nice win and the defense played great.  They really showed their potential when healthy.  The offense was still a little meh (other than Bell who is a beast).  Ben played ok but he's still uncharacteristically missing a lot of receivers and for some reason the communication between him and the receivers is just not there.

What are people's thoughts on the decision to punt the ball on 4th and 2 from the 35?  I personally thought it was a ridiculous decision.  I don't understand how Tomlin is aggressive enough to arbitrarily go for 2 but then punts the ball in that situation.  That's playing to not lose IMO.  Hated it.

Anyways, Steelers are in the drivers seat now.

Interesting story about Martavis.  Not sure they're inclined to trade him, but wondering what would be reasonable compensation if we were to move him.

Also surprised I'm not hearing the usual suspects talk about signing Bowman.  I personally think our front 7 have played pretty well when healthy.  Not sure we need to upset the mix there.

A win next week and they have at least a one game lead on the division (really 1.5 because they currently hold all the tiebreakers) and are at worst 1 game back for the #1 seed (again now with tiebreaker in hand.)  Schedule is rougher over the second half, but they do get 5 of their last 7 at home, in the unfriendly confines of Heinz Field in late November into December.  The Green Bay game suddenly got a lot easier.  The Patriots suddenly look VERY mortal.  Houston is without JJ Watt now.  No idea what (if any) Andrew Luck we're going to see on 11/12.  Baltimore has to come to us when we play again.  Season ends home vs. Cleveland.

As Coach Tomlin would say, there are numerous opportunities ahead of us.  The path to the division title is crystal clear.  The path to homefield advantage is there.  For all the (justified) griping, there's no reason we shouldn't be in the AFCC again.  Injuries thus far (knock wood) have been minor.  No excuses.

I wouldn't say ridiculous, but it was certainly conservative.  I get not wanting to kick from 53 if he wasn't super confident Boswell would make it, the defense hadn't been allowing much and he probably figured he'd get the ball back in great field position.  Berry blew that by kicking into the end zone, if he was able to pin them inside the 5, it would have looked a lot better.

We wouldn't get #### for him given the suspension history.  No leverage whatsoever.  I'm not trading him for a 5th rounder if I'm Colbert and further, we don't even know if he really did ask for a trade.  If he did, that's a total #### move considering they were playing Cobi ####ing Hamilton in the AFCC last year thanks to Martavis' inability to put the blunt down.  He should shut the hell up and do something with the opportunities he gets, then he'll get more.  He hasn't looked like the guy he was two years ago yet - he catches balls and gets tripped up almost immediately.  He gets open on deep routes and the ball goes through his hands (Chicago.)  Make some big plays and you'll get the ball more.  Until then, shut the hell up, keep working, and be happy you have a job.

I would have went for it but I guess Tomlin just doesn't have a whole lot of confidence in the offense right now.    I was also not happy with the play calling at the end of half.  First and goal on the 2 and you throw the ball after running the ball down their throats?   The next play we run from the shotgun.  Horrible.

I'm looking at it this way...

Before the season started, for the first six games, I predicted :

@CLE - W, MIN - W,  @CHI - W, @BAL - L, JAX - W, @KC - L.  4-2.

Instead, we've got...

@CLE - W, MIN - W, @CHI - L, @BAL - W, JAX - L, @KC - W.  4-2.

Not how I expected to get there, but the same record nevertheless.  Frankly, a little better off considering I had 1 division and 2 conference losses and instead, we have 0 division and 1 conference loss.

Said the exact same thing yesterday.

To state the obvious that was a great performance by the offensive line, even after losing Gilbert (again).  I've been really down on the o-line this far this year but they were fantastic against the Chiefs.

It was also nice to see them utilize James Harrison in spots yesterday -- and he came through with a couple big plays.  Hopefully they continue that

Agreed.  I was watching the game (admittedly I'm biased b/c I'm a Bell owner), and I was pissed that they decided to throw on 1st, then run from shotgun on 2nd.  You've been running all over them, line up in the I & let your best player (maybe 2nd-best behind AB) finish what he'd been doing the whole game.

It seems like Haley has to try to "out-smart" the other guy:  "they think we're gonna run, so we'll pass, even though they can't stop the run."  Felt the same way the week before.  Jax has a great pass D, so let's show how great an OC I am by beating them at their strengths; that'll prove something. :wall:

Both lines were absolutely dominant yesterday - that's what this team needs to win consistently.

I thought Hargrave was an absolute beast yesterday.  I didn't hear the commentators mention it, but there were a few run plays where Hargrave absolutely caved the middle of the line into the backfield.  Hunt's read was to cut it up inside, but with Hargrave destroying the middle, he was forced to try the B or C gaps where he was quickly vacuumed up by Tuitt/Heyward/Shazier/VW.

He absolutely owns Eric Fisher.  I think you're going to start seeing his usage tick upwards, Dupree has been inconsistent and Watt hasn't looked quite the same since he got hurt.

Very happy to see Pittsburgh FO continue their focus on life after #7.

Steelers apparent interest in Wyoming QB Josh Allen.  Team sent scouts to Wyoming/Iowa game, presumably, with a focus on Allen.  Yesterday, the Steelers sent more scouts to watch Wyoming.

Don't know how well his game translates to the NFL, but this kid has one heck of an arm.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zkA4MzHFV8A

2 game lead on the division with all tiebreakers currently in pocket.

#1 seed in the AFC if the season ended today.

For all the ups and downs so far, we're in the catbird seat. Lions (minus Golden Tate) next Sunday in prime time at Ford Field should be an interesting game.

Not going to be easy.  They're at home coming off a bye in a must-win situation.  Let's see what the Steelers are made of.

Great win.  Defense really shut down the Bengals in the second half.  Offense was clicking but ere having trouble converting on 3rd and short.  I know this sounds like a broken record but the play calling in the red zone has been abysmal.  They need to get much better because for all of the dominance in the second half the field goals were keeping the Bengals in the game.

Bryant being a jerk again:

PITTSBURGH -- Receiver Martavis Bryant appeared to reinforce his trade request on social media late Sunday, calling out rookie JuJu Smith-Schuster and urging the Pittsburgh Steelers to "give me what I want."

What he wants is clear.

"He wants out," a source close to Bryant said. "Point blank."

Bryant was tagged on a comment from an Instagram post by @fantasyfootballcounselor pointing out how Bryant didn't get the ball on a play intended for Antonio Brown during the Steelers' 29-14 win over Cincinnati.

Bryant responded in a since-deleted comment that was screengrabbed and shared all over social media.

"JuJu is no where near better than me, fool," Bryant commented. "All they need to do is give me what I want and y'all can have JuJu and whoever else."

Bryant then clarified those remarks with a new comment that tagged Smith-Schuster, the rookie who caught a 31-yard touchdown Sunday and has cut into Bryant's playing time.

"JuJu is the future and got great talent and is going to be one of the best to play this game," Bryant commented. "I want him to get his. I just want mines, period, point-blank. Ain't nobody did nothing to get me back. I worked my ### off to get myself back with no help and little support, period. In due time the process will show."

The NFL Network reported Bryant had requested a trade. ESPN confirmed the report, citing Bryant's disenchantment with his role in the offense.

Bryant and the Steelers cooled those reports during the week, with Bryant saying publicly he did not request a trade. Coach Mike Tomlin and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said Bryant was happy.

Bryant, who was suspended for the 2016 season for violations of the league's substance abuse policy, entered the game with 17 catches for 231 yards and a touchdown.

He was heavily involved in practices this week, but Sunday he caught one pass for 3 yards on two targets.

Steelers defense is outstanding. They've really rebuilt it well after it kinda all aged at the same time a few years back. Sean Davis is especially impressive. His range is amazing, and combined with Shazier's range makes it really hard to complete passes in the seams. Watt looks like a great pick so far too, and after a rough start, Haden seems to be rounding into form. Steelers might have a top-3 defense in the league, and the offense only needs to make a few plays right now. If they do get those redzone issue figured out, this is likely the best team in the NFL.

The defense's success/failure is predicated almost entirely on the ability to shut down the opponent's running game.  Now, this may be a case of stating the obvious, but it's particularly glaring this year.  When a team's OL has been able to blow open holes in our front 7, we lose.  Chicago did it, Jacksonville did it.  In both of those games, it wasn't the standard boilerplate script of running the ball effectively setting up the passing attack (like we saw in the first half but not the second yesterday).  Both those teams just ran and ran and ran, even when we knew they were going to run, and did so effectively all game long. They won barely throwing the ball - 23 completions for 196 yards in the 2 games combined.  In the 5 wins, teams have not been able to consistently move the ball on the ground - Dalvin Cook and Mixon had some moderate success, but couldn't sustain it.

As the front 7 goes, this team goes.  Luckily, I don't see a whole lot of games upcoming against teams that are designed to knock you off the ball and unleash the power run game.  The only one I see is Tennessee on Thursday night in 3 weeks - that could be a trap game.  It's in Pittsburgh but the Steelers are on the road at Indy only 4 days prior, so I believe that mitigates the home field slightly.

Are you suggesting that we may actually matchup pretty well with the Patriots this year?

Well, my friend, you asked the question that my post was simply begging for.  And the answer is........

I don't know.

On paper, yes.  In reality, I have seen this movie too many times to assume it ends differently.  We'll all find out together on December 17th.

Actually I thought the Steelers defense did an okay job against the run into the 3rd quarter of the Jax game.  It was the interceptions that changed the everything in that game.

They did.  Fournette was largely bottled up for a good portion of the game, then it all fell apart.  The picks absolutely killed us, but when he started ripping off chunks of yardage about midway through the third quarter, that was the death knell.  I think they ran 12 straight plays on one drive and scored - that should NEVER happen.

I hope he rots on the bench or they suspend him.  Don't cut him like they did when Blount was a ####
I agree 1000%.  The Steelers can afford to bench him.   They need to sit him down and have a serious come to Jesus meeting and explain to him that he is signed through the 2018 season and if he doesn't change his attitude he's going be inactive for the duration.   Somehow this guy got it in his head that he is Randy Moss when he isn't even Troy Edwards at this point.

The last thing they should do is trade or cut him.

And while I agree the players may be on the short end.  I hate players getting "rewarded" for acting like babies/distractions.  Oh I don't want to play for you anymore - I'll just complain and pount until I get my way

I don't know.  I think it would be addition by subtraction.  Guys like JuJu, TJ and Joe Haden have brought some great energy and renewed enthusiasm to the team.  Last thing you want is a malcontent like Bryant tearing things down.
