No way would he get 2 after Gronkowski receiving 1.Thankfully it was just 1 and not 2. The game against the Ravens is much less critical than the game against the Patriots.

For me it's the Bengals. It was the Ravens for a long time, but while that is a heated rivalry, there's a mutual respect. After a Ravens game I can shake the hand of a Ravens fan and say good game. In the past couple years the Bengals have gone out of their way to try and injure our players. That's part of the reason I don't feel for Burfict at all. IMO he deserved to receive a devastating blow after all the cheap ones he's dished out. If a Bengals fan tried to shake my hand and say good game after last night I'd probably still shake their hand, because I'm a good sport, but I definitely wouldn't be happy about it!fruity pebbles said:Just curious Steeler fans. If I am JuJu and IIoka I am appealing the decision based on your argument above. It won't work but I think they could make a legitimate argument. In JuJu's case the fact that this is a first offense could be factored in as well....Not sure how the NFL can justify giving Gronk 1 game and AJ Green 0 games, and Juju 1 game. His block was vicious, but it was during the course of a play. Gronk attacked a player after the whistle, and AJ Green choke slammed a guy. How are those not worse? Probably only because this happened in Prime Time.
Precisely this. AJ Green 0 games, Mike Evans 1 game, Crabtree 2 games, Gronk 1 game, Juju 1 game, wut?If I am JuJu and IIoka I am appealing the decision based on your argument above. My biggest issue, and this is nothing new, is the inconsistent way the NFL doles out suspensions. If you suspend one player for hitting high or helmet-to-helmet then you need to do that for all. And I think if they institute a policy like that it should made a point of emphasis and enforce on Week 1.
It isn't a conspiracy, it is just the incompetence of the NFL front office. They need to get out of the suspension game cause they never get it right.Steelers are getting shafted. Juju out 1 game, Iloka out 0. And Gronk who gave a defenseless player a concussion after a play, 1 game. He should be at least 2 if Juju is 1.
We play in prime time again this week, I wouldn't be shocked if we lose another player before next week. I've never been one to buy in to NFL conspiracies, but the recent suspension decisions are suspicious.
Players could also stop doing dumb things but I doubt that stopsIt isn't a conspiracy, it is just the incompetence of the NFL front office. They need to get out of the suspension game cause they never get it right.

So frustrating, we might finally have the DBs on our roster to play man on the Pats WRs, and without those MLBs I could see the Pats just running it down our throat.steelers1080 said:We're going to need to rely on our offense from now on. With Shazier and Matakevich out, our defense is going to be even worse than it has been. Hopefully Big Ben can recreate the magic of a few years ago when we faced a Jimmy Smith-less Ravens at home and he put up 6 TDs.
Also, they need to keep feeding Leveon the rock. He can eat up the clock and keep us rolling. These next 2 games are critical, but we need to not have let down games against Houston or Cleveland.
Not only that but the middle is going to wide open for Brady to hit Gronk.Buttonhook said:So frustrating, we might finally have the DBs on our roster to play man on the Pats WRs, and without those MLBs I could see the Pats just running it down our throat.
Well maybe Shazier will be back in 6 weeksNot only that but the middle is going to wide open for Brady to hit Gronk.
There is no way to tell. The NFL front office has a big wheel with suspensions & fines on it and your punishment is whatever the spinner lands on.I wonder if Watt choke slams Brady if he'll get off with an ejection and no suspension. Or if Mike Hilton slams his forearm into the back of Brady's head after the play, if he'll only be suspended 1 game. I'd be willing to bet a fair amount that they'd be suspended longer than AJ or Gronk.
Agreed. I'm just hoping he will be able to walk again.Been trying to find out what this means as well, should know something soon but sure does not sound good. I'm worried about the young man and I don't mean as it pertains to football.
I don't want to overreact but this just seem so serious and can't see how him walking again can't be the only thing people care about right now and I say that fully aware of what he means to the team.Agreed. I'm just hoping he will be able to walk again.
Thanks for the encouraging words. Let's hope it turns out that way for Ryan.It sounds like Spine Stabilization Surgery can be a typical procedure to help the recovery from a spinal contusion. Several other players have had a similar injury in the past and were able to walk again (David Wilson, Jermichael Finley, guy from the Cowboys). So, I'm maintaining hope that he will live a long and healthy life.
Thoughts and prayers with Shazier and his Fianceé.
I have a friend who's a surgeon who told me that without knowing the specifics that this is a 3-6 month recovery period to ensure the spine is stable. The long-term prognosis is very good. From a football standpoint, we likely won't know anything until well into the offseason, probably after the draft. Once the area is deemed stable, he'd likely be given the rundown of the risks of continuing to play and then will have to make a decision on whether to return or retire.Been trying to find out what this means as well, should know something soon but sure does not sound good. Spinal fusion is surgery to permanently connect two or more vertebrae in your spine, eliminating motion between them.Been trying to find out what this means as well, should know something soon but sure does not sound good. I'm worried about the young man and I don't mean as it pertains to football.

So, we know for certain that his season is over. He may never play again, but that will be his and his family's call. If he does come back, he should be good as new next season, but with no guarantee that a life-altering injury couldn't occur at any time, as I believe (this is not from the doctor) that one such injury increases the chance of recurrence.
His deep passes looked very good tonightHe seems to be getting better every game after a rough first six games or so. Obviously a good thing.
I thought so too but then I checked the updated standings and it didn't show it. Then the site fixed itselfHuh? They did
As a NE fan, looking forward to this thread this week.No major injuries. Bring on the Pats!
After what I've seen the last few weeks from the Steelers D, I'm not even remotely optimistic that the Steelers will beat the Patriots. I see no way that this defense will be able to stop the Patriots so they'll have to win in a shootout. That usually doesn't end well when playing the Patriots. Yes Belichick will try to take Brown out of the game so let's see if the Steelers can take advantage of that and use some of the other weapons. I'm just happy that the Steelers are in good shape for a bye.As a NE fan, looking forward to this thread this week.
Couple of thoughts:
* PIT offense is certainly rolling. NE's D will have their hands full.
* PIT D on the other hand has gone south. Big Ben is going to have to keep it up. Don't see NE scoring under 30.
* I also don't see A. Brown going for 11-200+. NE will force Ben to be patient. Limit big plays. I wouldn't be surprised if they dare the Steelers to run. L. Bell....while awesome...is averaging under 4 YPC. If he lines up wide, could see the secondary adjusting and forcing Ben to bring Bell back into the backfield.
Honestly I think it's unlikely that we will face Baltimore in the playoffs. If we do, it's probably a good thing since it means we will likely be hosting the AFC championship game. Baltimore is most likely going to win out giving them a 10-6 record. The only other potential WC team that could knock Baltimore down to 6 would be the Titans. However, that would require the Titans winning 2 out of their final 3 games (Rams and Jaguars both on their schedule). I don't think the Titans beat the Rams. If they do and the other scenarios happen, then yes we will face the Ravens in the WC round. But I think that's unlikely.Evilgrin 72 said:Pretty simple from here on in. Magic # to clinch a 1st round bye is 2 (Steelers wins + Jacksonville losses.) A win over New England on Sunday and a win in either of our final two games clinches home field throughout (unless MIA pulls the upset tonight, in which case a win over NE next week wraps up the AFC.) Worst we can possibly do is a 3 seed if we lose 2 more games and the Jaguars win out. Of course, that scenario most likely leads to Steelers/Ravens III at Heinz Field 1st week of January, so we want to avoid that if humanly possible.
Rarely is it this cut-and-dried with 3 weeks to play. Root against NE and Jax, the rest is gravy.
Is this (the bolded) correct? If NE loses tonight and Pitt beats NE next week, Jax still holds the tie-breaker over Pitt, right? So, assuming NE loses this week & next week (and Jax wins next week), Pitt would still have to win one of their last two (or have Jax lose one of their last two), or Jax would get the #1 seed in the AFC, or am I missing something?Evilgrin 72 said:Pretty simple from here on in. Yup you're correct. I'm guessing EG is assuming that if we beat NE, there is basically 0 chance that we wouldn't win at least win one of those final 2 games. Is this (the bolded) correct? Or if the Titans fold (possible) and the loser of the AFC West between KC and San Diego gets in, Baltimore could fetch a 5 seed. Or if, the Steelers lose 2 of their last 3 and the Jags win out and Pittsburgh gets the 3 seed, we could end up in a 3/6 matchup with Baltimore if they end up with the 6. A lot can happen, I want that bye !!!Honestly I think it's unlikely that we will face Baltimore in the playoffs. No, you're right, the Jags could potentially pass us, but they already have 4 losses. I figured if we beat NE, the odds of us losing to HOU and CLE and the Jags winning out was a pretty infinitesimal possibility. Is this (the bolded) correct?
