Welcome to 2013 media - They take the picture that will make the most headlines...Regardless of if it's in good moral taste or not and regardless of if it's an accurate portrayal of the story at hand or not.

Matthew Brady posed corpses at Gettysburg. This stuff is nothing new.

I just hope people don't start posting it on the internet

I never have a carry on. I can see myself taking 2 seconds to grab my purse from under the seat (if it's easy to do) under these circumstances where there is no fire yet and everyone seems 'ok.'
I usually make sure to have the passport and $$ on me before the planes get ready for landing. But I would have taken the small overhead bag too if I have to wait in the aisle to get on the slide. Afterall, I pack it in case my luggage gets lost and it would appear pretty iffy that they will get unloaded.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — One of two teenage girls killed in an Asiana jet crash at San Francisco International Airport might have been struck by an emergency vehicle responding to Saturday's crash, fire officials said on Monday
Horrible. Survive the crash only to be killed by the emergency vehicle.
Most likely she's already dead before she got run over.

amazing.. well this is another reason not to fly
If anything this makes me feel more safe flying. If a plane can undergo this horrific looking an accident (which is already exceedingly rare) with all but a handful of people essentially walking off of it, I feel like there's little to fear.

I will, however, continue to not buy tickets at the back of the plane. Last to get drinks, last to get off, close to the bathroom, and now the first ones to get sucked out of the plane if the tail falls off.

:goodposting:

An article I read yesterday likened the risks of serious injury or death from flying to those of riding an escalator.

Most likely she's already dead before she got run over.
San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault earlier said his office was conducting an autopsy to determine whether one of the victims survived the crash but was run over and killed by a responding vehicle. He said his staff was notified of the possibility by senior San Francisco Fire Department officials at the crash site on Saturday

Back of the plane is generally safer in the event of a crash (this crash being the exception to the rule).

It is possible these girls were only children, due to China's only child policy. Even more tragic if this is the case here.

Some stranded passengers were price gouged. 300/ night. Few hours later 200/ night. We're talking like La Quinta, not Hilton. One passenger said she paid a lower amount the first night then doubled for the next night. Niiice. Some places in SF are giving discounts. Prices change due to demand they say and it is summer... Being there is no end in sight for SFOs delays and cancellations to be completely resolved since there's going to be 3 runways indefinitely now, passengers be aware.

Just heard the stewardess who was deemed a hero for getting passengers out quickly despite her broken tailbone was told by the pilot to hold off on evacuating. Sounds like this pilot's asssssssss is going to be grass big time. Emergency response folks says another minute or two after the last passenger was evacuated and they would have been toast.

One firefighter went back in twice without protective gear after having seen some people left unable to move. He literally risked his life as he got out with the last passenger just in time before the smoke became even more unbearable and O2 was gone. Looking at those mangled seats, it's amazing how everyone got out before it was too late.

Now that's a hero, and of course he says he was just doing his job. These 2 folks went above and beyond in the minute before it would be too late for anyone. God bless them.

That would explain the bags. If they are keeping me on the plane for more than a minute I'm getting my bags.

Why was he not in protective gear. They had plenty of time to get dressed on the way.

(My speculation) Maybe he needed to drop it in order to squeeze into those tight spots in order to pull people out?

Glory hound.

KTVU is screwed. The local Asian community has sent their lawyer Mi Su Yoo after them in complaint. On the other hand, analysts Amanda Huggenkess and Hugh G. Rexion don't see what the big deal is.

I'm literally crying about this video. Too bad someone probably gets fired for this one. Wow, amazing. Rare in life that you can laugh this hard.

that could be the all time best news prank
I agree. I think Captain Janks has just been unseated.
Agreed. And it is up there with "that's the wrong video" of Kevin Everett moving his arms and legs as my favorite local news moment.

ETA: No, just watched the Kevin Everett video again. That's still a clear #1.
The Everett video is hilarious but it's just a video cue mix-up. It's the kind of thing that can happen quite easily anywhere - every station does has it happen once or twice per week.

This comes down to screening, editing and fact checking... and basically common sense. How, on one of the biggest local stories of the year for your city and station, could someone slip four laughably false "Asian" names not just by whoever answered the phone when they called, not just past the journalist collating all such information, but past the writer for the show, the news director and the anchor. And like I said before, it's not like this is a city that lacks a big Asian population and heritage where you might excuse it (maybe) on the basis of naivety. It's just a complete Clu Ster ####.
