Playoff tiebreakers--how does your league do it? (1 Viewer)

Given the scenario below, how would you seed the teams for the playoff?

  • Use the primary tiebreaker to seed the playoff field

  • Use the secondary tiebreaker to seed the playoff field

Four teams (A, B, C, and D) finish at 7-6, for 2 remaining playoff spots. Team E, the #1 seed, and Team F, the #2 seed, are already in.

Tiebreakers are 1) head-to-head, and then 2) total "Points For."

Team A: Won season series vs. Teams B & D, lost season series vs. Team C

Team B: Won season series vs. Teams C & D, lost season series vs. Team A

Team C: Won season series vs. Teams A & D, lost season series vs. Team B

Team D: Lost season series to Teams A, B, and C.

So using the head-to-head tiebreaker, Team D is OUT. But that tiebreaker cycles on Teams A, B, and C. So then we drop to the secondary tiebreaker, "Points For." Using this tiebreaker, Team A is out and Teams B and C make the playoff field.

And now for the question--how do we seed the playoff field?? Since we needed to use the secondary tiebreaker ("Points For") to choose the playoff field, do we also use the secondary tiebreaker to seed the field? Or, once we have chosen the field, do we revert to the primary tiebreaker to seed the field?

If we use the secondary tiebreaker to seed, the playoff field would go:

#1 = E

#2 = F

#3 = C

#4 = B

If we use the primary tiebreaker to seed, the playoff field would go:

#1 = E

#2 = F

#3 = B

#4 = C

Has your league ever faced something like this? What did you do? Does the NFL have guidelines about this stuff, that you know of? TIA.

Once a team is eliminated (Teams A and D here) you restart the process.H2H vs B and C, followed by total points.

Which team had more points scored, B or C?

Because if C was the high points who got in first, then wouldn't you restart the process, putting A in due to head-to-head win over B?

I think I just confused myself. Hope you take care of this smoothly ... :(
