I haven't yet posted in this thread probably because every time I try, words completely fail me. This weekend we celebrated my son's 13th birthday. I've been on these boards, or some variant thereof, since before he was born 2 months early and was in the NICU. Back then people he comforted me and reassured me that he would be well. Now I see him, a grown young man of 13 and I am so happy that he's healthy and happy and a part of my life and I feel sad and maybe a little bit guilty because I know what you and your family and Chance are going through.

I don't know if Chance knows this, but he's been the inspiration of this online community. He's been a force drawing us together and reminding us of the best that there is in people. He's helped us all look at our lives and appreciate that which we have. He's shown us strength. He's demonstrated what is truly important. I'd like to tell him thanks, and maybe RFW and SLB did just that for us. But most of all, I wish he could know all the good that he's done, just by virtue of his strength and the integrity, honesty and caring of his wonderful father, who I am privileged and proud to 'know'

Thoprawishes to you all. I love you guys.

Awesome job guys. So cool to see people pulling together, making some calls and doing these things for Chance. Cliche, but it renews my faith in humanity. Nicely done. Thoughts and prayers to Chance, BB and their family.

I know a number of you have suggested that the FFA come up with something special or helpful for Chance. Well, a couple of our FFA brethren have come through in a big way.

As you may be aware, Chance is a big Houston Texans fan, and his favorite players are Andre Johnson and JJ Watt. And as many of you know, rabidfireweasel is an amazing artist with a big heart. Yesterday, we received a really cool painting of Andre Johnson in action hurdling a defender after making a reception. What a really cool thing for RFW to do (I'm sure it took a long time) and Chance really, really liked it. We're going to frame it, and it will likely end up in his younger brother Clay's room. Thanks so much RFW for such a meaningful gift.

Others of you know that St. Louis Bob is one of the best guys around. Just a genuinely good person. Well, SLB reached out to his contacts, and I don't know how many mountains he had to move, but today Chance received a personalized video from JJ Watt. Chance was sleeping (he's on low dose morphine now), but as soon as I started to play the video, he perked up and had a smile on his face throughout the entire video. It was absolutely clear that Chance recognized JJ and understood everything he said. And that smile was worth the world to me.

I couldn't have asked for two more meaningful gestures to bring happiness to my son during this difficult time. Thanks to you both, from the bottom of my heart. And sincere appreciation and heartfelt gratitude to my good friends here in the FFA for your kind words, continued support and offers of assistance. This is a special place. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

That is really heartwarming. I am sure you can't even begin to explain how valuable that smile was to you. We'll all thinking of you and your family, bb.

My prayers have been and will be for Chance to keep positively affecting people each and every day.

I have a son that is 16 now, but had three open heart surgeries when he was one. Last one was 50/50. I've been here. No words can describe what you go through, but everyone in here with their love and support is helping BB and his family in immeasurable ways.

BB and his entire family are also affecting people in a positive way every day. This is truly what life is all about.

This place/community is awesome. As much bickering that goes on over trivial stuff, it really pulls together to help another one out whenever it's needed in any way possible.

 
So sorry BB. You are an amazing dad. Chance was blessed to have you and your wife as his parents. I hope the years ahead treat you more kindly.

Damn it biggie. I know no words will help. First time I've seen this thread and I'm completely torn up about how unfair life can be. This will sit with me for quite a while, it's just not right for this to happen to a child.

 
I haven't read the thread, or even dared to, because family is so far removed from a message board. I did pray for you and your family, and I rarely pray yet do believe in the power of it.

Losses within loved ones are very intimate. Again, I'm very sorry for your loss. God bless you, your family, and know that Chance has been blessed with love, knew love and still does.

My prayers are still with you and your family.
