Agreed. As a 'Skins fan I love it when Gibbs is pissed-off during the week because it means he's got a chip on his shoulder and it usually means his team is going to play with a grudge. That's just Gibbs, though, and it's a product mostly of his intense competitiveness and people criticizing/questioning the team's performance during the preseason. It would be the same whether Portis was healthy or not. The truth is guys that we just don't know whether this is misdirection or not. There are many valid reasons to cite for both cases. Personally, I think the risk is just too high for you to risk your RB1 putting up a fat zero, or only getting limited work for you to start him if you have any other options at all. And how good of a game can he have? If they're up two TD's in the 3rd quarter, do you think he's going to be the guy grinding out the clock with those vital 2nd half carries that normally pad the stats for your RB's?Gibbs has said that frequently over his career about upcoming games. He gets wound up tight as hell before games. Taken by itself I don't think that statement would mean much. But added to the way the Redskins have played in the preseason (badly) and the disappointment Gibbs had expressed about it during the preseason, I think it's a big game for them. Who wants to go into Dallas after a loss?By the way, the video interview with Portis is viewable on Redskin.com now. It's near the top right under Redskin TV, called "Portis 9/9". LinkDamb I am undecided now.
Why is this game so significant to Gibbs?
I understand your reasoning fatness but I have not read these other comments by Gibbs over the week backing up this statement "Gibbs, who has stated multiple times over the last 10 days that tomorrow's game is one of "the most important" that he's "ever been a part of" "
You'd be insane to opt for Portis in your lineup over Gore this weekend IMHO. Gore has a chance to end the year as a RB1 in fantasy football.I just cant bring myself to start him... if it was a !pm game there would be more info to make a decision to start Porits, but with it being a MNF there is no telling what will go on today or tomorrow. I'm taking the flyer on Gore vs. the cardinals. Which with my luck will net me the same amount of points taht Portis will end up getting.~crag
I gave up, I'm starting Derrick Mason (PPR League) over Portis and Betts.
If I rubbed a magic lamp and could make 3 wishes to the genie, one of them would be that we could watch the response of every coach in the league during a press conference be told that they should be more open about injuries before games because it helps fantasy football. The thought makes meI'm not playing games, I'm 96.4% sure I'm starting Ahman.
When did it become vogue for NFL coaches and players to mock us and treat us like illigitimate step children? This kind of nonsense is going to ruin fantasy football, and the NFL. Along with RBBC.

Heard an interview on the radio this morning and Portis was saying he is now 98.5%...This, up from 93.9% the other day..Portis makes me' date='Sep 11 2006, 09:38 AM' post='5493231']Gameday Bump.... any new news?
Portis makes me![]()
This is dumb. The only list of starters for tonight's game or any game on the 'Skins website is the official team depth chart. That lists Portis as the 1st stringer. Is this news? Betts is (or by all appearances looks to be) starting tonight. Portis may or may not play a little behind him. If Betts is the starter I don't believe that Portis stands to get any fantasy points that justify having him in your lineup. This implies the team will test the shoulder in tonight's game, but they've got a more important road game at Dallas after a short week that they could use him for. I'd start any of the four starting RB's tonight (including Betts) over Portis if you're asking for my opinion on this. The Redskins official team web site lists Clinton Portis as the starting running back for Monday night's game against the Vikings. Our ViewThis news comes one day after Joe Gibbs said he expects Ladell Betts to start and one day after Portis labeled himself at "93.9 percent" healthy. We suspect this may be an oversight by the web site, but they're making it awfully tough for fantasy teams to know who to start. We'd lean towards Betts at this point.
