Pot smokers (1 Viewer)

Just recd my MM card and have been taking gummies to help with anxiety/stress and cut down on my drinking as liver/kidney numbers were concerning at last check up.  It seems very different than flower - just under 10mg has me ready to pass out -while 5mg i barely feel anything.  The sleep is awesome but Id like to be a little more productive at pm.  Id rather not go into the Sativa strains as I dont want a more mellow buzz.  Do you build a tolerance?  Does weight have anything to do with it?
Weight for sure affects it. It's all about trying to find the right amount to take for each individual. One gummie might be perfect for me, but it could take three for someone who weighs a lot more.

many decades of popular opinion has supported the belief that indicas produce the more mellow, sedative buzz, and sativas more energetic, psychoactive effects generally.

however, interestingly, before posting, i googled, and the 1st result said molecular analysis says there is no difference.  i value the human experience over molecular analysis.  but that's me.

Was thinking about making a run in the next couple days.  Probably will spend about $300-400.    Sometimes I think a drive to Colorado would be cheaper.

I've always found no discernible difference between indicas and sativas but nearly all smokers seem to swear by that idea. Similarly, from the start of legalization, I have said that the THC percentages were not to be believed.  More recently I've read articles that explain why the THC percentages are so frequently fudged.  There are multiple testing agencies for growers to choose from.  If their bud comes back with a low THC percentage or mold contamination, it is financially devastating, so they never send any more product to that honest testing agency.

My wife is interested in that. What ratio are you using?
My wife tried a 2:1 (5mg THC to 10mg CBD) She said her memory was much better and she didn't struggle for words. Also helped her pain, but only lasted a couple hours but took 2 hours to kick in.

Making another run this weekend.

If your libido has been lagging lately, might I suggest a full indica strain, concentrate of your choice. If you can unmelt yourself from the couch for a few minutes, you're guaranteed to have a good time.

You can thank me later.

i usually vary my doses and types

2.5mg - I have some mints this low they are nice to just take the edge off

5mg - various gummies / chocolates - these are generally my go to, I definitely get a buzz from them, seems it varies day to day too how much of one…sometimes pretty minor but sometimes it gets me pretty good

10mg - gummies.  These are generally for when I have nothing responsible to do

i will sometimes take multiple does during the day, but if I take 15-20+ in a single dose it will f me up pretty good.  I remember the first time i took a high dose like that I need up going to bed at like 8:30 because I was too high

id also recommend the tinctures, it’s a liquid and you can basically dose anywhere between 2.5-10mg

also depends on how much I drink, if I do alot of both it usually goes badly

I’ll usually spend like $200-$300 on an edibles order but it’s usually enough to last me 3 months

i don’t use daily but I’d say most weekends and a couple of days during the week

Seems like the Illinois prices are higher than anywhere else that I've come across where they've legalized.   I think the tax is 25-30% on top of the elevated starting price.   The edibles I usually grab are $38-$41/100mg + that tax.    I'm a lightweight, and usually do about 10mg if I am using edibles.   For me the cartridges end up being bettter bang for the buck.

yeah that seems high

I can't keep my hands off myself after I smoke.  It's performance enhancing, too.

There needs to be so much more consumer education. Scientifically the percentage of THC does not solely dictate how high you get or the type of high. Other compounds such as the other cannabinoids, flavinoids, terpenes, etc. also play a significant part in your high.

Terple is a slightly indica dominant hybrid strain (60% indica/40% sativa) created through crossing the delicious Tropicana Cookies X Slurricane #7 strains. If you're searching for the perfect happy bud to get you lifted and wipe away any aches, pains or cares, you've found it with Terple.

PSA - I tried this strain for the first time last weekend and it blew my mind. I felt a cerebral tingling immediately after smoking some flower and then that transitioned into an immediate body high. Will be going back for more!

Good call.  I have found that weed has completely reoriented my relationship with alcohol.  I used to go through a handle of hard alcohol every 3-4 days.  Now I have a glass of whisky each night and another half glass probably every other night and that's it.  I can't recall the last time I woke up with a hangover and I barely even remember what a hangover feels like.  Even on days when I don't smoke, I have no desire at all for any more booze than that.  It's been like that for well over a year now and it's great.

My personal experience with gummies is that it makes no difference at all whether they're indica or sativa.  For some reason, "hybrids" are consistently a little weak to me, which doesn't make much sense and is probably psychosomatic somehow.  I do find that I often wake up feeling kind of groggy if I took edibles the night before, whereas I almost never experience that with flower.

There are lots of places in Colorado where you can score 100mg of edibles for $15.  I feel like I'm getting slightly ripped off when I stop at border towns and get hit for $20.

I have some Tropicana Cookies in my stash.  Definite thumbs-up.  I'll definitely keep an eye out for this one the next time I need to re-up.

Common groupthink is that you have it backwards with Sativa and Indica, Indica is the sleepy time strain. But I've also been told that at this point everything is a hybrid, and like @urbanhack said, there are other variables that contribute to effects.

My first instinct after reading this, any I could be very wrong, is you may be better off with a vape. You can take teeny little puffs, microdose, which you cannot do with edibles.

I've pretty much retired from drinking, aside from nice wine when I go to dinner. Once the vape cartridge made it possible to catch a buzz in the middle of a crowded restaurant, I waved bye bye to getting drunk.

Beach Wedding is also another one to look out for...

Beach Wedding is a potent indica-dominant hybrid marijuana strain made by crossing Tropicana Cookies with Wedding Cake.

Educated consumers will eventually prioritize cultivation, terpene retention, and storage over numbers on a label. Not all strain effects need to be magnified by 30%. For example if you have a strain that helps with focus at 17% but you find it in 30% THC, that focus might now turn into paranoia or anxiety. You wouldn't only drink Everclear or 151 when you go out drinking so people shouldn't be a number chasers when it comes to buying weed.  My 2 cents

Enjoying some Bruce Banner, but I feel like this is where the old guy reminds everyone that everything turns into an indica if you smoke enough of it.

In San Diego I buy the 8ths priced around $30. My number 1 consideration is packaging date.  Ideally its within the month.  I made a mistake once when buying shake to cook in butter.  This cheap ounce was "terpene blasted."  First I smoked a bit and thought it was terrible, headache weed, then I read into what terpene blasting involves and I threw the rest out.

Yeah, it would take me about $200 in gas to get to CO.   Sadly, it might be cheaper to do that if I was able to buy enough.

my plan was to drink less when I started doing it, I probably do to some degree but not the extent I was planning

also whatever extra calories I was hoping to give up by drinking less gets offset by me eating a whole bag of chips before bed

Finally decided to get a medical card since I've had shoulder pain and problems for years. It couldn't have been simpler. I took medical records of my shoulder diagnosis to the pot doctor, she looked at them, asked me a few questions, walked me thru the online process on my phone, and within 10 minutes I had my temporary card via emai. I went next door to a dispensary and grabbed some flower, a couple of vape carts, and some edibles.

There's like 7 or 8 places within a 15 minute drive that give 40 to 60% off first purchases, and like 25-30% off of 2nd purchases. My cart total was almost $200 and I paid $78 out the door. I'll just go to each of them as I need to take advantage of the deals, and those savings will actually pay for the card.

What a time to be alive!

Agreed! I'm about to come up on my first Dr. renewal. When I went in for my initial consultation they didn't even ask me for medical records or any proof at all of my Crohn's disease. Just took my word for it. Piece of Papaya Cake!

I have cut down my drinking a decent amount so far - from 2-4 bourbons just about every night to only Thursday-Sat - hope it helps my numbers.  Lost a few pounds as i snack pretty much the same without the extra calories of the 2-4 drinks per pm.

Still figuring out the gummies - I just cant figure out how 7mgs is a crystal thin buzz and 10mg wipes me out lol.  I also hate the waiting and instant melting into the couch when it hits.  Buzz also isnt my fave -  I like the flower/oil buzz much better but Im concerned about smoking too much for the lungs - I invested in a mighty vape and only take a few hits per night - Ive read debate on whether vaping flower is better for you or not but heres hoping.  I know oil carts were deemed dangerous for a while but I assume that was of street and not dispensary issued.

I'm also interested in the health effects of vaping v smoking.  With my kids getting older, I'm banished to the garage and even there I have to be really careful. I'm much more worried about my teenaged son busting me than I ever was about my parents finding out when I was in high school (they found my stash numerous times.) I really only use edibles in small doses to help sleep. I've tried numerous different brands, strains and dosages of edibles and haven't found anything that works to give me a good reliable recreational buzz like smoking leaf. I've had a couple disposable vape pens and they are decent. I love how indiscreet I can be with little or no smell and no coughing.  But before I invest in a permanent vape pen + cartridges I'd like to know a little more about what's in there and how bad it is for me.

I don’t think there are any documented health related issues from smoking clean, organice flower. Vapes are all about the manufacturer and the process. I only buy cartridges from local operators who make live resin that retain the original terpenes and other compounds. Not a fan of distillate where extra flavors or terpenes are added.

That's how it was at first in Colorado. Getting the card was easy.  Then we just decided #### it make it legal.

That's exactly what I use for flower.  At 49 -- having never smoked anything aside from maybe half a dozen cigars -- I'm not worried about lung cancer or anything.  But dry herb vapes still seem a lot healthier than smoking.  The fact that I'm not actually burning anything has to be better in some sense than ripping a bong or whatever.  (I can also use the leftover baked herb to make a really ####ty tincture by soaking it in ethanol for a few weeks -- not recommended, but hey.)

Also, Mrs. Karamazov does not partake and is not a huge fan of this particular endeavor.  She doesn't mind me hitting a vape indoors because the smell dissipates very quickly and doesn't seem to stick to fabrics or drywall or anything.  I like not having to worry about that too.  I would never smoke a joint in my basement, but the smell from my vape is completely gone by morning.  I can definitely smell weed when I'm vaping, but I don't think I smell like weed.

The obvious downside is price.  These are spendy, especially Storz & Bickel.  But we're all FBGs here so money is no object, right?

I'm talking here about a dry herb vaporizer that bakes fresh flower that you load into it, not carts.  I've never tried any of those and probably never will.  Flower is great, and I'm fine with edibles if discretion is called for.

Have you tried the Wylde-brand gummies? Gives me a 15- to 60-minute giggle fit every time.

Over the years I have transitioned from weed to vape, mainly for the mentioned smell difference. I used to walk around smelling like Pepe Le Pew,  but now not so much.  Still have be careful not to over do it or you will wake up with a cough/dry throat.

The mighty is worth every penny - quick, clean smoke and huge clouds.  Always gives me a quick buzz.  I go outside to "walk the dog" and dont usually attract a smell when I come back in. Everything Ive read seems to say that its the healthiest form of "smoking" but I dont think there have been a ton of studies on it.  I smoke a cigar a week and a few puffs on the mighty every other day so hopefully that is considered moderation.

When I open up a new stash to grind for it though is when I get into trouble.  The entire house smells and my teens busted me - I showed them my card and talked honestly about my anxiety/help to sleep and how its legal now and I dont view it as any different as a few drinks at the end of the day.  They still view it as "drugs" thanks to years of school/govt propaganda but seemed to be ok with it.  Wife is pushing me to open anything outside...its freezing out so that sucks.  Looking forward to spring.

RSO? I’m intrigued
I was too. So I picked some up yesterday when I did the math of the dose servings compared to other edibles.

I liked the chocolate bar I tried. I liked the 10 little chocolate chip cookies I recently tried. I've found I need around 20mg to have a great late evening and sleep.

But the RSO? A 1 gram syringe holds like 65 rice sized doses. I just squeezed a small amount out on my finger and rubbed under my tongue. Effect was much quicker than chewing the others and swallowing. And pretty, pretty nice.

Then while poking around on youtube looking at RSO ways to use I keep seeing all these "users" saying it cured their cancer! I am very skeptical of this of course but even when I researched more this Rick Simpson who invented the Oil (hence RSO) I see he's a Canadian who claims to have cured his skin cancer with it.

Anyway, this medical newb has moved it to the top when shopping edibles at the pot store.

@Hedgehog and @IvanKaramazov  :   could you unpack some of this flower vape stuff for a newb?    For starters, how much does the equipment cost and how much do you use?   I am a lightweight, so most times I just have a hit or two at night with my cartridge.

Yes, the smell - but if I am honest a reason I don't do flower is because I have 0 f'in clue what to do with it.   I know I have a grinder and a storage container, but I wasn't confident in what I was doing and I think I used my one-hitter once or twice and sold the rest to somebody else :bag:     Until I started doing it more in the last couple years, the only time I had weed before that was a pre-packed bowl that was being passed around, so I had no hands-on training.

I am more open to using more flower if I had something like you are talking about and could get in a rhythm with that.

Happy to give you my experience -

I find vaping actual flower through the mighty to be the best way to do it.  Very smooth - less smell - easy to pack and a lot less strain on the lungs.  Also a very quick and good buzz.

The Mighty by Storz and Bickel is not cheap - its around $400.  Also it doesnt fit easily in your pocket - its a bit bulky.  If youre going out in public I would use a pen or something smaller - but for at home its perfect and worth every penny.  You grind a good sized bud, untwist the cap on the mighty and fill it up, turn it on and set the temp - I like about 380 degrees which is less than combustion so it should be healthier on the lungs though not sure any real studies have been done.  It really is economical because you dont need a ton of flower to fill the chamber.  I had the PAX 2 and find the Mighty much better.

I usually only take a few puffs 2-3 times per week.  Still in great shape and much better buzz over edibles which I still find all over the place and much more intense.  I can go outside and "Walk the dog" and literally no smell detected.  When I grind new buds is when I get in trouble.

If you can spare the cost for it I highly recommend.  Ive had it a few yrs and still works great - charge it once per week for an hour or 2

The Mighty is okay (they have a Mighty+ now too), but there's a lot better bang for your buck out there in dry herb vapes, IMO.   I would definitely check out a HR Fury 2/POTV 1 (same vape rebranded) or the new XMax V3 Pro before opting for a big boy.  Even one of the Arizers.   But if you get really into vapes like some do, you'll want a portable, a desktop, log, butane, 510, etc.

I used edibles exclusively for quite a while because I didn't feel comfortable dealing with flower.  It's a bit of a process compared to edibles (or cartridges I guess) because there's preparation and clean-up involved, and also some storage issues to consider.  But it's not that big a deal once you get accustomed to it.  If previous generations of stoners can handle it, so can resilient members of Generation X.

I keep in my flower in mason jars in my utility room.  Each mason jar contains a humidity pack that keeps the herb fresh.  There's not much smell.  If you're standing like 3 feet away, you can smell that there is weed nearby, but no odor seeps out of the utility room.  I have a little bookcase sitting right there that I use as a work table.

Basically, you grind up your herb in a grinder.  I use these little metal caps but I don't know if there are similar products for other vaporizers.  You can reuse these indefinitely (clean with isopropyl alcohol to get rid of the resin) and they make the vaporizer easier to clean since you can pop them in and out of the unit without having weed actually come into physical contact with anything.

Each of those caps holds something like an eighth of a gram.  I usually take about 5 puffs at 360 and another 5 puffs at 380.  That works for me but I know different people have their own routines.  If you do the math here, I'm pretty sure a single puff from my Mighty is quite a lot weaker than a puff from a joint, but it's nice and clean with only mild irritation.  I can definitely taste and smell the difference between various strains, but I can't vouch for how the flavor compares to combustion.

As far as the effects go, obviously this is going to vary a lot from person to person.  I find that one of those little caps makes me nice and relaxed.  Three of them taken too close together allow me to see the curvature of time.  But I do smoke more or less nightly and I have at least some tolerance.  It hits like Ronnie Lott when I've been away for a week or so and come back to it.

After you're done, you are left with brown, dried out weed.  Not ashes.  You'll need to do something with that already-vaped bud (AVB, or ABV for already-been-vaped).  You can store it and use it to make fairly weak edibles, or you can just throw it out I guess.

The vaporizer needs to be cleaned from time to time.  It disassembles, and you clean it by soaking certain parts in alcohol.  There's a YouTube video (of course) and you'll have the process memorized after you do it a couple of times.  I clean mine about once every other week, sometimes a little more often.  I imagine these can get pretty nasty if you don't clean them.

Now that I'm used to flower, I really like it.

Wow... I just pack a bowl and smoke it. :)

seriously, I store it like you do @IvanKaramazov - Mason jars with a little humidity pack. Keep it in a container in a closet - zero smell. I do use a grinder, but that's it - basically bowl/bong/smoke. Pretty old school.

Never really liked vapes much - the high is simply not as good to me. I've heard vaping is actually worse for the lungs, but who knows? Edibles are kind of meh - either too strong or not strong enough (and again, the high is different.)

But the RSO? A 1 gram syringe holds like 65 rice sized doses. I just squeezed a small amount out on my finger and rubbed under my tongue. Effect was much quicker than chewing the others and swallowing. And pretty, pretty nice.
RSO can also be directly applied to the skin.

Got a sore tennis elbow? Find a heavy CBD rso and rub that stuff in. Works best after warm bath/shower

I do pretty much the same thing. Use a bowl or roll my own. I do like the cartridges due to ease of use and less smell. Wife lets me use the pen inside which is nice this time of year in Michigan .

Have the same issues with edibles- finding the right dose and buzz is totally different- but do use them a couple times a month.

Damn, that is expensive! New place I go to they sell for $8-$15 /100mg+ tax which I think is 12%

Interesting episode of StarTalk (Neil deGrasse Tyson and Chuck Nice) with guests Errick Miron (formally Ricky Williams) and Dr. Staci Gruber (Harvard Medical School).  They discuss quite a bit including Ricky's journey, his current cannabis companies, sports/society, education, healing, Carl Sagan's cannabis use, etc...  Good conversation I thought others might also find interesting.
