Prince Dead at 57 R.I.P. (1 Viewer)

When I lived in the Twin Cities I was more into the Blues Scene, Lamont Cranston, Doug Maynard and what not.  I was far more likely to be at the Caboose or the Blues Saloon or the Medina Ballroom than at First Avenue, but I did get down there one night when Prince and his entourage showed up.  His people were obnoxious, trying to clear a path for him to get to some tables upstairs.  One of his bodyguards threatened me to try to clear the path.  I did not feel threatened and said they were free to go around.  That little Purple fellow told his bodyguard to chill.  He apologized for his group.  Later that night he sent a bottle to my table.  The crowd there did implore him to take the stage, though he was not scheduled.  He did for two songs.  Talented fellow, though like I said, not really my cup of tea, but the girl I was with loved it.

 
Brutal.  One of my best music memories is standing in the rain in SunLife Stadium watching Prince amidst purple lights kill the halftime show, screaming along with Purple Rain.

 
i am a fan, one of the best to me. i'm shocked.
i do this for every musician that dies, come up with a top 5 hi-fidelity style.

i remember when i was going out to the night scene in 79 and i wanna be your lover was out. i remember that song was playing when i felt up donna fielder. some good times.

 
Having gone to a conservative college in the early 80s, I also was a DJ on the campus radio station. I tried to troll the officers and advisor by playing "Darling Nikki" during one of my shows. No one was listening, so I failed.

When Purple Rain came out, my sister and I went to see it in the theater. In a 300+ seat theater, we were the only white people watching it. :lmao:

Best friend in middle/high school would "hip" me to new music and was a huge Prince fan.  Would always have everything before it came out.  And when you are in 6th grade and he gives you a mix tape with the song "Jack U Off" or "Sister" you take notice.  Instantly hooked right then.

 
One of the best one night stands in my life kicked off at 3am with a live cover of Purple Rain playing in the background.  That girl had the craziest blue eyes and although I never met Prince, I thanked him many times that late night/early morning and wished I'd paid more attention to those "23 positions" he sang about, although it was unnecessary because she knew them all by heart. I took that to the bank brohans.

I started a new thread for anyone that wants some free Prince. For anyone that already got one and wants more, I will get you a second volume of you want it. 

 
Sad to hear he died, I wanted to see him in concert someday. The songs I know, I love. But can't say I'm a huge fan, I think the last Prince album I bought was "Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic" that was 1999.

My guess is AIDS or drug overdose.
