Private Antsports Mock 14-team (1 Viewer)

Dear Felons:Please kindly punch yourself in the face for that CJ pick. Please see my post on being 'that guy' for further elaboration.
You mean, like that guy that takes 3 RBs in a row to start a draft?

in retrospect, i wish i hadn't preranked my R3 pick bc i would have taken k-rob. still could have gotten gannon in 4, and picked up a decent rb3 coming up in 5. oh well. that's why we mock.

CJohnson has 1 year wonder written all over him, but his production last year and the lack of any of the QBs looking all that good make him my selection.
Actually, I think he will be good for many years. If Kelley Washington can be a legit #2, I think CJ will be even better. Good pick IMO.So was Stewart. I don't like him talent wise, but he is a starter which is hard to come by at this stage.

The problem I have with CJohnson is his catches per target. He is physically gifted and can be a special player in this league for years to come, but he needs to work on his hands and getting seperation from defenders. All that said, the only other WR i considered was JSmith and he slipped last year and I tend to shy away from older players that slip.

A wise strategy i share. the writing is usually on the wall with these types of players, some just choose not to read it.but i personally love cj. i'm higher than whitney houston on the guy.

i'm higher than whitney houston on the guy.
:rotflmao: That's pretty high.I also like CJ. I rank him around some of the other WRs left on the board( I won't tip my hand). With that being said, I always like taking the young up and comer over the veteran who is losing a bit. Plus, I like his situation in Cincy. Kitna can actually put up the numbers and the supporting cast( Dillon, Washington, Warrick) isn't all that bad.

Funk should be just about getting back from his final......Love the Troy Brown pick Swarm. Had I known that there wouldn't be the expected QB run, I'd have taken him instead of Warner. Oh well.

The QBs will come off the board fast in the near future. Hopefully not fast enough that Im starting Carr, but fast none the less.

d'oh. wasn't even thinking when i selected mason to go along with eddie george. i don't fancy starting 2 titans. :wall:
Don't worry. You'll end up waiving George half way through the season for Artose Pinner and playing Thomas anyway. So Mason was a good pick.i.e. I'm not the biggest George fan.

Well, I preselected since I wont be able to check in for about 8 hours, but since my next pick is 23 away, every one of my 10 options may be gone by then.

Alright I'm back. I'll make my pick in a few.EDIT: The final was in religious studies. I think I did well. It wasn't too bad.

well blowholes looks to be back. really eerie as i was in the process of selecting jeff garcia for him. guess he can't complain about my draft picks.

Hopefully this thing can wrap up by Friday. I won't be near a computer for the whole weekend. The last few picks have been some pretty good value in my book.

For those of you not ambitious enough to go to the home page...5.05 East Bay Funk Morgan, Quincy WR CLE 5.06 Griswold Smith, Jimmy L. WR JAC 5.07 Spankster Brooks, Aaron QB NOS 5.08 No Blowholes Garcia, Jeff QB SFO 5.09 Operation Shutdown Bruce, Isaac WR STL 5.10 Spartans Rule McNair, Steve QB TEN 5.11 Minneapolis Millionaires Coles, Laveranues WR WAS 5.12 1RQB Gardner, Rod WR WAS 5.13 Minich Chambers, Chris WR MIA 5.14 Blackened Voodoo Favre, Brett QB GBP 6.01 Blackened Voodoo Smith, Rod WR DEN 6.02 Minich Conway, Curtis WR NYJ 6.03 1RQB Bettis, Jerome RB PIT 6.04 Minneapolis Millionaires Brady, Tom QB NEP 6.05 Spartans Rule Rice, Jerry WR OAK 6.06 Operation Shutdown Hasselbeck, Matt QB SEA 6.07 No Blowholes Franks, Bubba TE GBP 6.08 Spankster Johnson, Keyshawn WR TBB 6.09 Griswold Pittman, Michael RB TBB 6.10 East Bay Funk Shipp, Marcel RB ARI

East Bay Funk did a great job in tabbing Marcel Shipp. Shipp proved in 2002 that he's got the goods at the NFL level. I don't think Emmitt Smith has what it takes anymore to keep Shipp completely off the field.

And if anything befalls Emmitt, Shipp (and his nice reception numbers) are golden.

Also, Spartans Rule -- I tossed and turned a lot between Rod Smith and Jerry Rice before making up my mind for pick 6.1. I think Rice is a rock-solid choice at 6.5.

yeah i was hoping rice would make it to me. shocked he was still on the board. as i said in my comments, if it were a real draft i def. would have tried to trade up to get ahead of the other two guys with only 1 WR to try to get rice or keyshawn as they were the only two safe #1WRs left on the board.i'm happy with stallworth though, i think that's about the right spot for him to go in a 14-team. plenty of upside, but in reality you're prob. just looking at a 70/900/5 kind of guy. not getting a nice stable WR2 i think is gonna force me to draft another WR soon which i don't want to have to do. :thumbdown:so far my team is shaping up ok, but as i've said i wish i had made my pick in 3 bc i wouldn't have gone a-train over k-rob. oh well.

Well, I just picked QBs back to back to make then 3 of the last 4 picks. I was very surprised to get Bledsoe that low. I considered taking Collins instead of Pennington, but I've seen him throw the ball to the defender too many times to think he'll ever post elite QB numbers. I also thought the Rice pick was great value. I thought he would go right after CJohnson as he was the next receiver on my board.

Bledsoe was a good pick. I thought very hard about taking him when I went with Hasselback. Looks like the QBs are starting to vanish. Who'll be left with Kordell at QB1?

Well, I obviously feel that I have the best team so far. Ive got my #1 RB, #3 WR, #5 WR, #12 WR and #6 QB. All that and a serviceable RB2.

You definitely are having a very nice draft. I'd say that either you or Blackened Voodoo have the best team so far.Tom's up, and I'd say I have about an 80% chance of predicting who he'll pick. But I won't.

7.04 Tom J. Porter WR OAK Make that 100%. I KNEW you'd take Porter. You need another WR and he should pick up nice numbers as TBrown is phased out.Great pick too, BTWEastBayFunk had finals yesterday. I spose he'll wake up to make his next pick at about 3:00 today!

Thanks, I really feel fortunate to land him there. Rice was the 26th receiver taken! The lowest he was ranked by any FBG was 22. With Holt, Booker, and Rice I feel pretty good about my WRs now.

Tom- Good pick on Porter. I was actually targeting him, so you again are "that guy". Great value at this point. I think there are some pretty good teams shaping up here. I like Felons team and Voodoo. I liked mine until I picked Pittman. I made the pick assuming he will only miss a couple games. I think that is all he'll get, he should be put out on his ###. Overall, I like the 14 team draft, I just don't know if I'll play in one this year. All my leagues are 12 teamers and I am a part of one 10 team. I definitely like 12 teamers the best, but this draft is rather informative.

Hahaha. Am i that predictable? Oh well. I think Porter was a good pick as well. I think waiting so long on my WRs i was fortunate to have stallworth & porter there. ideally would have a more boring stable vet WR2, but oh well.Every draft i'm ever in afterwards i always appear spotty at wr, i usually have a lot of young guys with 'upside' and i always think after my draft 'hmmm, i like my team but my wrs are a bit weak,' but then i always shore up the position by really watching the ww & am fine.so it's not much of a concern to me in mocks.sorry to be that guy, clark. :P was going to take collins just for that reason.

I'm amazed how different a 14 team draft is from a 10 or 12.I've felt about a half step behind in all my picks. Definitely should have gone RB with my first pick.

BTW, I'm surprised no one every nicknamed Kerry Collins 'Tom Collins.' Seems apposite.I think everyone has actually drafted fairly well for a 14-team. I'm fairly confident I'll be able to dominate my 14-team draft. Just a matter of figuring out where to pick from. IMO, it's either 3-4 so i can ensure landing deuce or portis, or picking near the backend 12-14 to ensure getting two quality RBs.also, really liked the pick of the tb def. was wondering where they would go in this large a league. that spot seems right.

I've played in a lot of 14- and 16-team leagues. Once thing I can say for sure -- and this will be obvious to everyone -- is that once the draft is through, virtually every team will have a starting-lineup weakness. You just have to deal with it the best you can through the waiver wire, free agency, and trades. Also, a lot of the draft gambles you can get away with in a 12-team (and especially a 10-team) draft won't wash in bigger leagues.

7.05 East Bay Funk T. Taylor WR BAL Dang. My next three choices taken in a row. GDB picking with sharks!Edit: And now Pinkston. Make that four in a row.7.07 Spankster T. Pinkston WR PHI 7.08 No Blowholes D. Akers PK PHI

yeah WTF with akers in the 7th? a headscratcher to say the least, esp. when you consider the value of a 7th round pick in a 14-team league. def. would have been better off with me picking. i mean, i would have taken vandy there. duh.btw, i hope operation shutdown didn't pull a muscle reaching for wayne.

Yeah, not real thrilled with that one. But it's a guy with a job, a good QB and some upside. As a #3 WR, not bad.I'm starting to think that in a league with halfway decent owners, it's just not a good idea to get into the "big three" TE run. I usually take TEs late, but I thought I'd try something new here. I'm paying for it.

yeah i make no secret of my love for wayne, but i already got enough young WRs on my roster. so i'm not too miffed. a bit early for him anyway. i think he could easily have been had in the 8th.

7.11 Minneapolis Millionaires M. Muhammad WR CAR Highest rated WR left and I've pretty much resigned my RB situation to the waiver wire.
