I think that will be the most common response. They are incredibly difficult. For those that are either obese or really tall with long arms they are almost impossible. You can put me down for "zero." Not proud of it necessarily, but my upper-body strength has always been nonexistent.
@Keerock What fraternity were you in? DM me if you don't want that public, but considering this guy did 333 pullups it made me think we might be in the same house? There was an ROTC Marine in my fraternity and he did 333 pullups in a row during some ROTC competition. (I think they were pullups, not chinups). Dude was absolutely ripped, but skinny ripped, not body builder ripped. I think his slight body weight helped him. Either way, he was a bit of a celebrity for it at parties
ETA: I voted 1... and that's being very optimistic.

PDT. The number was just his goal, "cool" number.. had nothing to do with the house. What fraternity were you in? Ah. I was in a Phi Kappa Psi, where "3" is kind of our magic number so thought there could be a correlation.PDT. Same for me.Ever since my shoulder injury and now my fatness - I'll say zero
Do them a lot. 3-4 times a week consistently. Do that and you’ll be able to do 10+ within a year. Maybe sooner since you’re already doing them.I wanna hear from the 11+ crowd. how do you do it? I want to do more.. i imagine dumping 15 lbs would bump up my numbers easily.. but i'm stuck at like 4-4.5.. 3 sets of 4 is my pull up workout twice a week.. and that is REALLY hard.
consistency. Swam in high school, ROTC and water polo in college. Airborne school, 101st, 82nd in the Army. Still swim now, have a pull up bar in the garage. Never really got terribly out of shape.I wanna hear from the 11+ crowd. how do you do it? You can also put an elastic strap at the bottom of the rack that you would put your feet in. This will provide some assistance if you’re soloconsistency. when In the 82, we used to hit the bar at every opportunity. The most progress I saw was one of our paralegals who wasn’t afraid to have someone hold her feet for assistance after a few. She went from barely doing 3 to 15 in 6 months (deployed, so not drinking or eating too much garbage).
Seriously, if you can get someone to do it, do Partner assisted or you can use one of those machines.
for sure. i was doing sets of 12 chin-ups and still couldn't do 1 pull-up. **** is way different.0

I think anyone who can do even one pull-up can probably do way more chin-ups.. they're just easier
Weird - mine have always been pretty similar. I think i did 5 pull-ups and 7 chin ups last time I tried this.for sure. i was doing sets of 12 chin-ups and still couldn't do 1 pull-up. **** is way different.0

Now probably 8-10, used to be able to do 20+. Not part of my normal workout as they irritate my shoulders. Key was adding a weighted belt and increasing the weight little by little. Eventually the non weighted pull-ups were a walk in the park.
