QB Aaron Rodgers, PIT (18 Viewers)

I don't know a single person that hasn't enjoyed this selfish ego-centric ahole fall about as far he could fall and very fast. Good riddance loser

Good to hear from someone that knows him so well. :bored:

Maybe you aren't paying attention but he doesn't exactly hide his personality or keep his feelings secret. He'll be on the podcast this week blaming it on everyone but himself

Oh I pay attention, but ONLY when I hear the actual words straight from Rodgers himself. Not this, "a source, close to a friend, heard that an ex-player says <insert clickbait>" kind of reporting that that soap opera types gobble up and regurgitate.

Post #4244 being a prime example of the kind of "reporting" that usually comes TUE-SAT on Aaron Rodgers.

I believe I speak for every football fan in America when I say that IF HE PLAYS NEXT WEEK AGAINST THE DOLPHINS, THEN HE HAS NO DIGNITY!!!!

Tickets are under $25 to see Aaron Rodgers historic 500th touchdown. Gametime temperatures will be low 30s, wind chill low 20s, & as a bonus the sunset is only 20 minutes after kickoff. If you haven’t watched the Sun setting over the swamps and refineries of Jersey…could be an all around very special occasion.

No. Many HOFers ended much worse than Rodgers has.

Peyton Manning got benched, though his team did win the Super Bowl. He was as "along for the ride" as any QB in Super Bowl history. Von Miller won that Super Bowl.

Brett Favre was awful (11-19 TD/INT ratio) and ended with injuries.

Johnny Unitas was a washed up backup for the Chargers.

Fran Tarkenton led the NFL in INTs, and to this day has the 2nd most in a season since the merger, behind only 1988 Vinny Testaverde.

Eli Manning got benched for Daniel Jones.

Ken Stabler was a backup for the Saints

Joe Namath was a Rams backup.

Jim Kelly had more INTs than TDs, so did Troy Aikman.

yeah end of career is generally not what fans tend to remember. they remember the moments when the player was at his greatest. those great emotional vicories that made people almost wanna cry. people never forget those.

Rodgers was a great QB. but now hes not the player he was. Hes either a good QB miscast in a bad system or a below average qb. hes shown flashes this year, but hes just not been the same. not sure if it was the injury or the time off after the injury. same could be said for Cousins. or maybe (similar to an ACL for RB) it actually is 2 years to fully recover from that injury. I'm not a doctor or a physio therapist.....so I dont know how that injury affects the throwing motion but it feels like the zip on the ball with both Rodgers and Cousins wasnt quite the same as it was pre-injury.

Thats my take on it.

His career has followed Favre's almost lock step. From a non-huge football school. Not drafted as early as expected. Sat a year or so to start. Successful part of career in GB. Tons of passing yards, Gunslinger (albeit much more accurate than Brett). Fewer SBs than one would expect mostly blamed on coaching. A wildcard of idiosyncrasies off the field .Hanging on too long. And I think post career he will be a bit flaky like Favre. Is Favre as highly regarded as when he quit? Probably not. Stats get passed. Same for Rodgers. HoF career but it's gonna be the more rings that matter, unless there was a D that mostly did the job (see Bradshaw). Brady (7), Montana (4) , and Unitas (4) are always gonna be the best of their specific eras.

Rodgers sat 3 years. Probably something that will never again be repeated for a 1st round pick, at least not under current rules.

I bet he wishes to pass Brett Favre at 508. Just not sure he has another season left in him.
He looks good today and looks like he's having fun. Not sure another team is willing to take on all the headache that comes with him
What headaches?
Seriously? The guy is the human equivalent of a pill that gives an organization cancer/AIDS/poison/COVID, and talks them into not getting vaccines or treatment.

Who gives a crap about him not taking the COVID vaccines? Also, no one cares about his politics. Nor am I in this forum.

"I'm Inoculated", Skipping camp(without permission), The vice presidential distraction. This is just off the top of my head.

It's the Jets fault for bringing in USELESS R Cobb and almost useless A Lazard.

It’s not his politics, man. Reading comp down?

HE is a cancer. He has a personality that sows chaos and division. He makes demands about personnel and coordinators. He gets coaches fired. Pkus, he’s a doosh.

You’re entitled to your opinion.

Thanks for your permission. 😂

He's lost a lot of his game and if he demands certain personnel/coaching decisions be made then he's definitely not getting into a new locker room. I mean, what does he bring to a team now? A contender isn't bringing him in to put them over the top, and a team in rebuild mode doesn't want him.

He may not even want to play anymore. I’m sure he has other interests.

There aren't a lot of options, would have to be a contender type team, maybe Pittsburgh as an upgrade for Russ? but not even sure if that's an upgrade. Can't think of anyone else.

Next Gen Stats
Aaron Rodgers became the fourth quarterback since 2018 to throw four touchdowns under pressure in a game, and the first since Russell Wilson in Week 2, 2020.

Rodgers was pressured on 18 of 39 dropbacks, his highest pressure rate faced this season (46.2%).

He may not even want to play anymore. I’m sure he has other interests
His other interest is getting lots of attention for Aaron Rodgers and his only real way to get it is football.

He strikes me as just the opposite. He loves playing football, there is no doubt about that... but if he could play it without all the celebrity "stuff" that comes with it I think he would prefer that. You think about all the crap that has been written about him in recent years (from "sources close to")... and then think how much of it you actually heard straight from his mouth.

I think he retires this off-season and vanishes. You won't see him on "hot take" sports shows, or on pre-game shows, or in the booth. You may see him on the MNF Manningcast, Pat McAfee, and then when he (reluctantly) accepts his HOF induction in 5 years... and I wouldn't bet on him showing up for that last one.

Pretty funny moment in the NYJ presser yesterday, a reporter "asked" Rodgers something to the effect of, "Someone who says they are close to you says that you are considering retirement?"... Rodgers responded with, "Someone said they were close to me?"

After which he went on to address the hypotheticals being implied.

Dude definitely goes out of his way to avoid celebrity by appearing weekly on a national weekly television show that has millions of viewers and also auditioned to be the new host of Jeopardy.

What? LOL.

Are you referring to McAfee? That's because McAfee is a free speech guy... no leading questions, he just lets people talk about what they want to and gives them the opportunity to address the BS stories floating around. It's the same formula Joe Rogan uses. Now if you're happy getting your clickbait stories from, "Per a source, close to the organization, who knows someone inside the building, who has a friend close to the situation" then it's probably not for you. And that's fine.

Rodgers first appeared on McAfee's podcast as payback for doing 30-min of stand-up at Rodgers golf tournament. ESPN gave McAfee the big paycheck because he was the only person that had access to Rodgers. He probably feels obligated to continue his Tuesday appearances (maybe it's even in the McAfee contract) but it will be interesting to see how that all shakes out once he hangs up the cleats.

We talked a good bit in the Jet's thread on this.

Seems like these will be the two "sides"

From Week 15:

https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl...gm-week-15-game-film/5fec99ede4cb162557a9b498

It was the kind of performance that makes one think about what could've been, and it may even make some yearn for one more year.

The New York Jets' offensive line kept their quarterback clean, and 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers looked as good as ever in Green & White. No longer bothered by nagging injuries, Rodgers turned back the clock in Week 15 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Spearheading a 32-25 road win that improved New York's record to a disappointing 4-10, Rodgers passed for 289 yards and three touchdowns. He was also the team's leading rusher with 45 yards on six carries.

"Obviously, I’ve felt a lot better. You guys know it. You've seen it the last few weeks," said Rodgers.

The December 15 performance was a follow-up to the prior week's 339-yard passing effort against the Miami Dolphins.

"He's struggled with injury for a good part of the season and as he's starting to get healthier, you're starting to see Aaron Rodgers, the real Aaron Rodgers," said interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich.

Through his reemergence, the four-time NFL MVP is quietly showing he still has something left in the tank and it may be the Jets' best option at quarterback next year.

While Ulbrich likely won't be around to see it through, using Rodgers as a bridge option in 2025 makes sense.

"He's an historic player. He's done things in this league that have never been done before. He's got talent that is generational, and with all those things, and he's won a ton of football in his career and with all that comes great expectations," said Ulbrich.

Rodgers has posted an above average stat line over a 14-game sample. He has completed 62.5 percent of passes for 3,255 yards and 23 touchdowns. Factoring in eight interceptions, his quarterback rating is a respectable 90.8.

Whoever is hired as the Jets' next general managerwould likely sign up for that level of production from the team's starting quarterback.

  • The Jets and Aaron Rodgers have been in discussions about his future and a decision on whether the four-time NFL MVP returns to New York could come as soon as this week, per sources. New Jets head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey have great respect for Rodgers, a Super Bowl champion and probable first-ballot Hall of Famer whose two seasons in New York so far have been a mess of injuries and underwhelming results. He's 41 years old and looked it for much of 2024. But keeping Rodgers would give the Jets' new regime optionality in free agency and the draft by relieving some of the pressure to find an immediate answer at the most important position. If Rodgers stays, he'd almost surely have to take a pay cut from his scheduled 2025 base salary of $37.5 million. (Several decorated veteran QBs -- Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, Drew Brees -- all took pay cuts at the end of their careers.) Rodgers likely also needs to commit to being with the Jets during the offseason program to learn a new system under first-time offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, something that would benefit all parties.

(Rotowire) The Jets aren't expected to retain Rodgers as their starting quarterback for next season, and a resolution is likely to be reached "sooner rather than later," Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports reports.
Analysis: It's been a tumultuous two seasons in New York for Rodgers -- he tore his Achilles three offensive snaps into the 2023 regular season then performed below expectations in 2024. Though the future Hall of Famer did manage to put up a respectable 3,897 passing yards with a 63 percent completion rate and 28:11 TD:INT over 17 contests during the current campaign, his performance level was inconsistent from game to game, and the Jets compiled a 5-12 record. Rodgers has one year remaining on the three-year deal he signed in July of 2023 (the contract also has four void years, which begin in 2026), and New York will take on $49 million of dead-cap money if the team elects to part ways with him, but that doesn't appear to be enough of a deterrent to prevent the Jets from moving on. Schultz does note that "further discussions" are likely to take place between Rodgers and the organization, and the QB has yet to make a definitive statement about whether he plans to continue his career next year, so there are clearly a lot of factors at play here.

Kinda wonder if this might end up being a "forced" retirement. I don't see Rodgers ego allowing him to "compete" for a starting job, and I don't see any teams likely to just hand him a starting job. I also can't see Rodgers doing what Russell Wilson did last season and play for essentially the league minimum.

I do think he gets handed a starting job and even Russell Wilson would not have played on that contract if Denver was not paying him $37m.
