QB Aaron Rodgers, PIT (2 Viewers)

What a pathetic showing for the media covering the Packers.  Green Bay is a small market, but the number of reporters covering the team is not.  Apparently some (many?) were aware Aaron Rodgers wasn't vaccinated...yet not one wrote the story or followed up on it?  Weak.

 
This guy is such a clown.  I was a huge fan until I listened to him interviewed on a podcast a few years back.  He's soooooo full of himself, an overwhelming narcissist.  He spent the whole time talking about how smart he is and what the challenges are to live in a world where you're always the smartest person in the room.

On Jeopardy he couldn't resist every opportunity to show everyone every time he knew an answer.  The recent quote about Green Bay as a city and "obviously if they're coming here they're coming to play with me", etc.

This whole thing is just the icing on the cake.

From what we've learned so far, it sounds like the main thing he's guilty of is misleading the media and skirting some protocols so that the general public wouldn't know he was unvaxxed and he could protect his rep. That's not admirable behavior, but it's not likely to earn much more than a small fine for him and/or the team.

I mean is it possible you're right? Absolutely. But I have my doubts here. You're taking word of mouth as gospel. Mike Florio is the worst guy to listen to for news.

I'd love to see proof before I believe all the Rodgers haters. Don't get me wrong, he's the kind of guy would would do this for sure, I'm just not ready to pound the stakes in him yet.

It seems like a contradiction to say, "Rodgers follows masking protocols while interacting with players and coaches inside the team's headquarters at Lambeau Field." followed by, "However, Rodgers does not wear a mask while in the media auditorium during his weekly and postgame press conferences."  

To limit the "follows masking protocols" by the qualifier, "inside the team's headquarters," is suspicious wording.  That's also what the coach said in his press conference today - "in the building."  But what about the sidelines during games, on the plane or bus travelling, in the hotels, and at the Halloween party this past weekend?  He's not following the "masking protocols" unless those protocols are limited to inside the building and they exclude media appearances, which would be odd.  It seems apparent that he was given special treatment, allowed to conduct his media appearances and other activities in violation of the masking rules, which is a bad look for the team and the league.

Dude deliberately mislead everyone so that he wouldn't have to take the heat for not being vaccinated.  Like @Pipes said, love the player, really dislike the person.  What a selfish, arrogant jerk.

Could be, but my first thought was that a lot of these QBs probably follow Brady's lead in having a guru who advises them on every single thing they put into their bodies. My totally speculative theory is that Rodgers' guy was an anti-vaxxer -- not for political reasons but because he was one of those homeopathic woo-woo types -- who convinced him that he could mix up a batch of eye-of-newt and essence-of-tiger-gonad that would be just as effective as any vaccine. Rodgers bought it because he trusts the guy implicitly, but he also knew it would sound ridiculous if he talked about it publicly. Hence all the subterfuge.

ETA: Obviously, both of us could be right. Maybe he was already on the lookout for his own personal Alex Guerrero, and Woodley introduced him to a particularly out-there dude through her Hollywood contacts.

Could be the doc, his girlfriend or his own view on it, or some combination thereof.  No idea what treatment he got but it sounds nutty and obviously dishonest to claim to be immunized.

Well, that's the point. These athletes ascribe almost mystical powers to their gurus.

I bet if you got Brady drunk on avocado wine and really got him talking, you'd find out he believes all sorts of crazy #### with no basis in science. But he's smart enough to avoid saying those things in public.

My wife's go-to phrase is "hippy dippy", but I agree that "woo woo" is much more evocative.

I had never heard that story before, but yes, that is exactly what I had in mind.

On a related tangent: In another lifetime I spent a couple years working at a well-known celebrity magazine. I was on the marketing side, but one time we had one of the reporters come to our staff meeting and dish on all kinds of Hollywood gossip. This was shortly after Tom Cruise's "jumping the couch" moment, and the reporter said that Cruise had been that crazy for a long time; what had changed was that he had finally forced out his longtime PR rep, who was good at keeping all that under wraps, and replaced her with his sister, a fellow Scientologist. 

 
As others have mentioned this might be best case long run for Green Bay. Why not see exactly what you have in real game situations before you move on from AR.

The guy is a me-first diva who intentionally didn't follow the rules in order to protect his self image.

He deserves a major fine for flagrantly disobeying the league's covid protocols for unvaccinated players.

He won't get one, of course. But he deserves a harsh penalty. Unvaccinated but pretending he was? WTF.

It seems pretty unlikely Love will come in and light the world on fire in his very first game on the road at Arrowhead.  Whatever happens, the team will get a good look and gain some information to help with their planning.  I think #12 is gone after this season either way, so they'll at minimum have a better understanding of what needs to be done between now and next season.

In August, Rodgers told reporters that he had been "immunized" when asked if he'd been vaccinated. He sought an exemption from protocols based on his antibody levels before the season, but the exemption was denied. Based on that denial, Rodgers has been subject all season to the league's protocols for unvaccinated players, including but not limited to daily testing and mask-wearing.

Rodgers has been seen throughout the season maskless during news conferences, which take place indoors at the Packers' facilities.

That's a violation right there.

Unvaccinated players must wear masks at all times in the facility. They cannot gather in groups larger than three players and on the road "are prohibited from congregating, visiting or mingling with individuals outside of the traveling party once they have arrived in the game city."

If the second-string punter had intentionally violated Goodell's rules for half the season before getting caught, he'd be facing a massive punishment. 

But for this guy, the NFL is going to bend over backwards to let him skate by and hope it disappears from the news.

It'll be hard for the NFL to avoid taking action against the team itself.

 
It's almost like the rules were arbitrarily made and serve no purpose towards safety but towards the image of the NFL doing something to combat Covid. That's why when one of their face of the league players snubs the rules they can easily ignore them. Wouldn't be surprised if there were other high profile players that havent taken the jab but have quietly avoided questioning on it.

Pictures on Twitter (take it for what its worth) from press conferences of other teams showing multiple unvaccinated players across the league taking part in these media events without a mask.  This league issue appears to go beyond just Rodgers and the Packers.

And I dont mean that to excuse Rodgers or the Packers on this.

Apparently in the CFL, the punishment for this is a suspension for the remainder of the season, and the player ended up cut as a result. In the NFL... he might have to donate 10% of his pay for his next State Farm commercial to the NFL's own Play360 program?

 
My team may suck and about to implode into a 2 year "re-build", but at least I don't have to root for this horrible human being.

 
Fact: Aaron Rodgers when asked if he was vaccinated said he was immunized and most people understood that to mean that he was vaccinated even though Rodgers himself knew he was side stepping the question. 

Fact: Rodgers was deceitful by almost all accounts so it's fair to characterize Rodgers as a liar, a trickster, a person who is not genuine in their responses although it should also be noted that he isn't shy about showing and telling everyone how intelligent he is.

Fact: He is now missing Week 9 vs the Chiefs because he tested positive for CV-19 and this disrupts a lot of NFL fans who partake in fantasy football. Many of these fans have expressed outrage over his outright deceit in their minds. 

Fact: Henry Ruggs drove 156 mph into the back of a woman's SUV with her dog inside and ended up burning them both alive inside the car because he was intoxicated at 3:45am and in less than 24 hours his life went from young star in the making WR to likely serving prison time and never playing on a football field again. 

-I know for many the CV-19 is their entire walk of life at this point, at least on message boards. It's their flag for everything no matter what side of the coin or situation they feel they stand. I care not to engage in the politics but some of the names and things being slung at Rodgers in comparison to some of the other recent events in the NFL, let's not lose our minds over this is all I'm saying. And it's not directed at one poster so don't personalize it. There's a reason i primarily stay in the Shark Pool during football season. 

I'm not minimizing what Rodgers has done, he coulda killed someone by spreading the virus even if it was an accident, I'm sure Ruggs would like to go back in time and he would tell you he never meant to hit that lady and her dog but he did. And Rodgers would tell you he never meant to hurt anyone but he has hurt people, his fans and NFL fans in general who respected him are going to be put off by this.
