QB Aaron Rodgers, PIT (9 Viewers)

One trade possibility I have seen speculated is WR Jeudy, 2 first round picks, and a 4th round pick for Rodgers, where the 4th could move up to a higher round if the Broncos make the Super Bowl.

That seems like a pretty high price IMO. I'm not sure Green Bay will get that much for a guy who is 38 and has openly talked about retirement. Remember Denver's experience with Manning -- it was down the stretch in his age 38 season that his decline started, and he fell off the cliff early the next season at age 39.

Agreed. As a Broncos fan, I'd very disappointed in giving up that much. Rodgers>>Manning (circa 2012) due to Manning's neck issue, but Denver is not nearly as close to a SB berth as they were back then.

Paton should stay the course IMO. An adequate QB will emerge...not worth massively mortgaging the future for.

He isn’t retiring.  Especially now with Brady retiring.

Manning was also coming off of neck surgery.

How do they have leverage given their cap situation? They are more than $40M over the cap without signing any internal or external free agents, including Adams and 6 other WR/TE players who are UFAs. That is also without accounting for all of their draft picks, the 2022 practice squad, or reserving cap space for 2022 in season injury replacements.

That is with Rodgers counting $46M against the cap. If they kept him, they could obviously rework his deal, but I don't see how they can do that and bring back Adams and MVS and also take care of everything else.

IMO just wishful thinking that Rodgers stays in Green Bay. Not with his OC already gone and his QB coach with one foot out the door.

 
So Rogers wants to leave a team with a standout wide receiver,strong running game and good defense to possibly go to a team with an emerging standout receiver,strong running game and good defense. So he can prove he can make the playoffs and bomb out again and blame everyone else,only with a different team? Better check that Roger's Rate,it may be the same commercial in a new market.

Green Bay doesn't have a standout WR any more. 7 of their WRs/TEs are UFAs, including Adams. But don't let facts get in the way of a good Rodgers bashing narrative.

I'd never bash someone who's earned the right to manage his career on his own terms.

I'd be much more inclined to bash whichever team is likely to overpay for the services of someone who's only been to one super bowl in 17 years.

 
Football wise…Rodgers and Wilson should both strongly consider what the league looks like.  If Brady truely is done…where does that leave teams in the NfC especially at the QB position.  
You have Dak in Dallas, Kyler Murray in AZ…then what?    If Rodgers goes to the AFC…Wilson would be nuts to leave the NFC.

For Rodgers to Denver…he has to consider a division with Herbert and Mahomes being big obstacles to a title.  Add in the rest of the AFC with Burrow and Josh Allen.

It may be wishful thinking…but the clearest oath to playoffs still seems to be Green Bay.

Weren't all these "insiders" reporting this exact same story 10 months ago? Some people seem to have very short memories.

 
The Titans would be a good landing spot for him. Isn't Tannehill's contract a problem there though? What teams would want to trade for Tannehill? I have no idea what The Titans' cap space looks like.

I mean never say never in the NFL, but he's not going to Tennessee without some crazy salary cap magic. Tannehill is due $29MM guaranteed in base salary alone in 2022. He also restructured to bring in Julio this past year making it nearly impossible to cut him from a Dead Cap Hit standpoint. Titans would have to pay picks to have someone take him off their hands and probably have to eat some of his guaranteed salary as well.

 
Don’t believe much if anything that comes out of Stillman.  Shock jock style radio guy who seems looking to drum up ratings.  
Though…he may be buying land here, a house the size he is likely to build is probably a year plus out you would think.   TN also has cap issues and less draft capital (draft position and having given uo this year’s 2nd rounder for Julio ). And I dont think GB wants to be taking on Tennehill and his contract.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Packers are willing to make Aaron Rodgers the highest paid quarterback in the league if he decides to return for another season. 

The Packers are in a better spot with Rodgers than they were last offseason, leading to hope he'll return over retiring or asking for a trade. If Rodgers returns, he'll need a new contract, which is set to expire after the 2022 season. The Packers are expected to offer Rodgers a two-year deal for more than $45 million per year, passing Patrick Mahomes and making Rodgers the highest paid quarterback. Extending Rodgers with void years would allow the Packers to franchise tag Davante Adams and re-sign other priority free agents.

Pro Football Network's Aaron Wilson reports the Packers are expected to hire ex-Green Bay OC Tom Clements as quarterbacks coach. 

Per Wilson, the move is expected "to be welcomed by quarterback Aaron Rodgers." 68-year-old Clements served as the Pack's offensive coordinator from 2012-14 and as associate head coach in 2015-16. He was most recently on Kliff Kingsbury's staff in Arizona before being out of the league in 2021. It's yet another move designed to keep Rodgers in Green Bay, though Rodgers has been careful not to tip his hand publicly.

Pat McAffee is touting a Big guest today for a big convo and speculation by some is the guest  is Rodgers. I'm not certain on that myself but if so I think we might get an update today.

 
The Athletic's Nick Kosmider said Aaron Rodgers' $26.5 million cap hit in 2022 would "fold in nicely" with Denver's salary cap space. 

Denver heads into the offseason with $31.7 million in cap space, the seventh highest total in the league. The Broncos could open up as much as $45.7 million more in salary cap space through contract restructures for a handful of key players, meaning the team can absorb mega contracts from the likes of Rodgers, Deshaun Watson, Kirk Cousins, or Russell Wilson. Broncos general manager George Paton said near the end of the 2021 NFL season that the team has "the resources to do whatever we want." Talk of Rodgers leaving the Packers reached a fever pitch Tuesday morning after the unpredictable QB's cryptic social media posts indicating he may or may not be done in Green Bay. The Broncos sport one of the league's best, young skill position cores and would instantly be a Super Bowl contender with Rodgers under center.

Well, he will be on McAfee at the top of the hour.  So who knows.

The whole cryptic stuff people claim.  I mean, he could post anything and people would speculate.

What is that a picture of an omelet?  Is it a Denver omelet?  He is going to the Broncos.

Sushi?  Is it a California Roll?  he is going to the 9ers

Picture of Arnold Schwarzenegger?  Oh, he was the governor of Cali...going to the 9ers.  Wait, no, he was lowered into the steel in Terminator 2, he is going to Pittsburgh.  But he famously says "I'll be back"...he is staying in Green Bay.

Its all just more and more for all these radio stations to speculate (as if they haven't been doing that for a year now).

Im over it...just announce something and do it.

Maybe...or maybe there is no deep dark cryptic meaning to his instagram post.  He apparently just came out of this strange Indian cleanse thing  (and the little I have now read about that cleanse...its pretty nasty)  and posted stuff about gratitude (which he seems have gone on and on about love and relationships and things over the past few years).  Maybe he likes that people go nuts about everything...but is that more on him, or on them?  We have already had 30 days of speculation wall to wall on talk radio and Wisconsin media.  

He even just said before he posted it...he didn't think it was some cryptic thing.  Who knows..maybe he is messing with people...maybe he is just posting about his friends and people.

Don't get me wrong, the drama is entertaining. It's just a little groundhog day for AR to send cryptic messages and then come back with "sheesh, the media." He knows what he's doing. He's a smart guy (or so he's told us).

JMHO, saying "anything can be cryptic" when the individual said he'd make a "pretty quick" career decision and then comes out with public tweets, and photos of guys he enjoyed playing with in Green Bay, *of course* is going to be analyzed. This isn't your co-worker posting vacation pics, or talking about his ailing pet. it's vague reminiscing about his time playing for the Packers - by a guy who has a long history of intentionally cryptic messaging. He knows what he's doing. He thrives on what he is doing.

Yeah. I think he is waiting to see how they handle Davante.  But yeah…him making a decision and possibly working his. deal will help them figure out the rest.

Im more over the endless speculation over everything he does.

No doubt that he does...but already this morning.  ESPN Milwaukee...its all them pissed off that he didn't announce something.  As if he said he was going to announce it.  The pictures the other night...showing gratitude from people...why does that automatically mean he was going to announce something or leaving or whatever?  Apparently, based on the laughter in the background yesterday and some other sightings, he and Shailene Woodley seem back together.

I just don't think everything he posts is some cryptic message.

 
Just a thought...  I wonder if he is angling to win D.A. his freedom.  That is, "I'll stay in GB, but no more tags on Adams."

If I am Rodgers I want Adams to stay.  Making sure there is no franchise tag on Adams may the quickest way to ensure Adams is gone.  I am not so sure that is in his best interest.

Ahh...reading more into Bahktiari and assuming he meant it about AR and not the reaction to AR's post?  Bahktiari is one of Rodgers guys...who probably understood he was just doing his usual love you type post to his buddies.  

I understand he likes attention too...I just think its not always about that...and that right now local media is about little more than making everything into some cryptic deeper meaning than it may be.  They have been speculating back and forth daily since the end of the season.  They can't get enough of it.  Now after Gutey talked yesterday...people who thought a picture of Davante and Cobb without Rodgers meant he was gone...are now like, no, I am convinced he is coming back because Gutey would not be talking about trading isn't really what they are looking at if he didn't know.  Its nuts.

Its not all Rodgers is my point...some people want to read things into everything he does and says when often...its just a post without that deeper meaning.

PFT had a slightly different take on the Gutey comments - in essence that he was contradicting prior reports they had promised to trade away Rodgers if that was Rodger's choice, which is the same thing that upset Rodgers before last year's draft. Get ready for more cryptic tweets... err misunderstood innocent tweets.

Yeah...that is the point...if there was some agreement as some said, and Gutey says this now, he risks pissing him off.  He wouldn't do that at this point so that must mean he is staying now.  That was the thing that now lead to more back and forth thinking that...oh he is staying now.

Get ready for him to tweet anything which leads to a week of talk about what it really means...when its really nothing.
