QB Aaron Rodgers, PIT (10 Viewers)

Article is behind a paywall and this part of the article is about Adams trade options but I sure thought this line was a little eye opening:

While Adams would like to be reunited with his former QB, I was told he has some concerns about Rodgers’ plans to stay in New York past this season.

Jets don't have a prayer regardless of who they trade for. They barely beat the sorry Titans, got rolled badly by the 49ers, and lost to the pathetic Broncos.

I would think the concern is Rodgers retiring. I'm sure Adams has his cell phone number. But then again, Rodgers has poor reception at times.

And they continue to give this cry baby buffoon his way. It's worked out well so far 🙄
Aaron has another body to blame for his failures.
The coach
The refs
The teamates
The playcalling
The weather
The fans
The deli's in New York
The cab drivers
The geriatric O-line
The receivers
"And you kids better get off my lawn right now or I'm calling the police!"
"Where's Pat Mcafee when I need him!"

Somewhere Robert Saleh is getting sun while getting paid by Woody, knowing that he will be back in the NFL next season while Rodgers will quit after this one.

Rodgers has said he plans to play for the Jets beyond this season, though it’s unclear how much that calculus would change if he (and the team) continue down the path they’re on. Surely, Rodgers didn’t envision his first real season as a Jet going this way; 2-5 is the worst record he’s ever had through seven games.

And it’s not as if Rodgers is playing his best football. He’s thrown seven interceptions, tied for the second-most in the NFL. He ranks 28th in completion percentage (61.5) among qualifying quarterbacks and 24th in EPA per pass attempt. There have been 50 quarterbacks to throw for 300 yards in a game since the start of the 2022 season, a list that includes Zach Wilson, Mike White, Desmond Ridder, Mac Jones, Will Levis, Bryce Young and Jarrett Stidham — but not Rodgers.

Whether Rodgers wants to keep playing or not, it’s conceivable that Johnson (or a new general manager) might prefer to bring in a new quarterback, possibly with their first-round pick (according to Tankathon, the Jets would have the fifth overall pick if the season ended today). Rodgers has a $23.5 million cap hit in 2025. According to Over the Cap, if the Jets were to cut him, trade him, or he retired post-June 1, the team would incur a $14 million dead-cap charge in each of the next three seasons (because of some bonus money spread out over future years) while saving $9.5 million in cap space.

If he does state he wants to come back next year can the Jets really believe it at this point? Do they pass on QB in the draft only for ARod to go AWol in the summer again?

This is a lost season. Will they keep rolling him out there to lose games and fan confidence?

Is Travis likely to be fit enough to play before end of season? I don't have high hopes for him but I guess they might want to see if they have any potential here?

Just read an article on ESPN about him drinking some special water that is supposed to keep him hound and healthy. This is not a joke btw…

Aaron Rodgers' 26-yard touchdown pass to Garrett Wilson had a completion probability of 13.6%, the 5th-most improbable completion of the season, and most improbable by Rodgers since Week 1, 2020.

🔹 Air Distance: 47.0 yards
🔹 Target Separation: 0.8 yards

I hate to be writing this as a Bears fan, and longtime disliker of Rodgers, but I actually think Rodgers is playing pretty well this season. He's obviously not MVP Rodgers, but that was never a realistic expectation. I think he's played well most of the season (the Vikings game being the only real "bad" game) he's been let down by his pass catchers quite a bit and had the worst INT luck of anyone other than Mahomes this season. Despite the 7 INTs, I'd argue he's been his typical careful with the ball self. I'd say of those 7, maybe 3 were his fault. Hell, 1 bounced off the 5 on Garrett Wilson's chest.

He's made some really impressive throws, made good decisions, and made good reads. His accuracy has been below par, that's the biggest issue, and he's taking too many sacks, but that's always been a thing for him, even in some of his MVP years.

The Jets aren't 3-6 because of Rodgers, He's been arguably the best part of their team since their pass coverage fell off after week 4.

I agree and to add to that, their normally reliable kicker probably cost them two games as well. The Jets are being the typical Jets so far, but it seems like they actually have a pretty decent team despite the record.

He's certainly playing night and day better than Wilson. For all the griping, Rodgers certainly has improved the QB position for the Jets.

Rogers has started to look like his old self for the first time since leaving the Packers.

2025
Raiders?
Vikings?
Tennessee?
Carolina?
Browns?
Vikings for the troll move, ala Favre?
There is a path for Rodgers to end up in Minnesota. Darnold has earned a long term contract and with having drafted a young QB the Vikings are unlikely to pony up. McCarthy has just undergone a second surgery on his knee, making it unlikely he is ready to start the season. Rodgers could be a one year stop gap QB.

Raiders signing Rodgers wouldn't be a surprise either. They could then trade for Adams.

@SleeperNFL
It appears “increasingly likely” that the Jets will place Aaron Rodgers on IR or bench him over the next few weeks, per @DMRussini

It’s also a possibility the Jets simply cut Rodgers midseason.

Rodgers reportedly still wants to play in 2025, just not for the Jets.

I've been following Russini since she went to The Athletic. She's had some good info but in this case I'm not at all buying what she is saying about the entire Rodgers/Woody dynamic and think she is being used by one or more parties to get their version of the story out, whether she knows it or not I don't know. Am I alone? I'll explain some stuff that does not make sense to me.

Her report after Douglass was fired did not pass the smell test to me. In that report she of course suggested Woody wanted to bench Rodgers. I don't believe it. They would have been 2--2 at that time, which in itself seems early especially since Rodgers was not playing that bad. What really makes me dubious on this report however is Woody and Rodgers are having Monday morning phone chats. The owner calling the QB he wanted to bench on Monday morning for a casual convo after a return from London sound like an owner who wanted Rodgers benched the previous week?

Then you got the Davante Adams trade which it seems obvious to me, since Douglass was already stripped from power, was closed by or at Woody's behest. There is zero way you can convince me that trade was not done to help Rodgers play, get comfortable, whatever you want to call it. The trade was consumated by Woody for Rodgers. Which again is highly inconsistent with wanting to bench Rodgers just a few weeks previous and now wanting to cut or trade him.

So now we got Woody wanting to bench or cut Rodgers. So they can turn to Tyrod? Why? This is not like Daniel Jones or Wilson's contract situations from last year. No risk with a Rodgers injury. It's not you need to get a look at Tyrod to see for the future or he's going to sell tickets or create interest in the fan base. As we all know other then players like Breece and Wilson who were already on the roster they have tried to build and entire offensive infrastructure for Rodgers.

I just don't believe it.

Now Rodgers may be beat up physically, tired of losing, seeing his legacy starting to get dinged and want it to just end as soon as possible. But this whole notion Woody wanted to bench him, cut him, and wants nothing do with him after this season as if he was not on totally on board with bringing him in and this was all just a creation by Joe Douglass is a tale being spun by someone's camp and reported by Russini IMO>

You may be right, although I think it’s fair to say this is conjecture and your opinion is nothing more than well reasoned speculation.

But I do agree with the premise that a lot of stories these days come directly from agents or back office folks with an agenda. It’s pretty gross stuff and is super common.

Many sports reporters have virtually no integrity or sense of fairness. They just want their scoops and if that means publishing b.s. from time to time, to them it’s just how the game is played.

I can't imagine bringing in Rodgers as anything more than a bridge QB, and I have no idea if he'd accept that. I certainly couldn't have seen Manning or Brady accepting that.

He still does a couple things well. He makes good decisions and good reads, but he seems like his arm strength is going, and that's also affecting his accuracy, as his trademark escape ability isn't there. In many ways Rodgers and Russell Wilson are similar at this point, but Wilson has a better arm.

I'd honestly rather sign Daniel Jones if I ran an NFL team.

Any of you banging the Tyrod Taylor drum. How much have you seen of him?
Doesn't throw WR's open. Doesn't throw into NFL windows. Does not throw with any
anticipation/timing. Yes, A Rodgers is not good but he is not Tyrod bad.

I definitely think the benching Rodgers thing is coming from some camp for some agenda. It didn’t make any sense to me. Whose camp? I don’t know. Sounds like Douglas’s camp. It’s put out there to make Woody look bad and meddling, or the source could be coming from and/or was okayed by Woody because he’s so incompetent he thinks it makes himself look like a sage. We won’t know.

NFL reporting is such a minefield.
