QB Baker Mayfield, TB (1 Viewer)

I don't think anyone is criticizing "trying to get an Elite QB and win."

It's over looking 20+ allegations of sexual assault and even trading 3 1st round picks in spite of the red flags.
That's one way of looking at it. Then again, why would anyone assume they didn't check things out thoroughly beforehand? Haslam is a bit quick to take action, but the FO seems rock-steady to me. Maybe they think he's HOF material and the draft compensation is fair (How many picks would you give for 1.1 if he were in the draft?). Maybe they think it unlikely that any suspension would last beyond 2022. So yeah, right now it looks like an enormous price to pay. How is it gonna look in 2023, 2024, ...?
It looks … bad.
Ha, it’s great to review something like this. Yes, it still looks real bad.

Cody Mauch and Luke Goedeke have been placed on injured reserve, that is not good news for the Bucs or their skill players

Luke Haggard and Charlie Heck or your new RG and RT on the OL, Whirfs still looks like he might need more time
4 of their 5 starting OL are either different or in different positions vs 2024, lot to ask of the Bucs
Jets and those +6.5, maybe they don't win but maybe this stays close

He’ll never win a title anywhere. He’s aight but he really is modernity’s clown. Internalizes everything and makes it personal.

If you said something that rejected or disagreed with him in some way that was formal or polite, he’d wonder why you were so distant and impersonal and he’d take that personally and hold a grudge.

If you leveled with him and dropped your guard and told him the unfettered truth he’d accuse you of being intemperately personal and wonder why you weren’t more formal and polite and he’d take it personally and hold a grudge.

I could do with fewer men like Baker Mayfield.

I mean, whatever, but my word.

Nope. Just a Jets fan and also a guy that invested in Baker in his second year in Cleveland when he thought it would be wise to show up fat and out of shape for his second year and Freddy Kitchens was calling plays, like a draw on 4th and 13.

That was the dumbest football rah-rah garbage team I’ve ever seen in pro football, and I saw Joe Judge make Daniel Jones run QB sneaks on second and 6+ and then 3rd and 6+ while getting paid millions to make those calls.

Those two should never work in the NFL again, but surprise! You’re the (total jerk), lowly fan.

Shoot those three (guys) into the sun. The galaxy can have them. Three less moron votes at the ballot box.

I'm sorry you had to go through that, but jump on the bandwagon and enjoy one of the greatest stories in the history of football. College+NFL. We are witnesses.

Heh. I’m okay. No scars here. He’s just a buffoon who doesn’t need a bigger platform.

Beat the Eagles and we’ll talk. Actually, I’m a bit torn.

Personalizing things with football players is probably not a good recipe for FF success. It may not be, but your attacks on Mayfield sound an awful lot like sour grapes.

Yeah, not really. I actually almost always like the guys that I draft and watch over the years. I certainly am not the guy that sends them nasty Tweets or whatever. You know what? Baker might be the only guy I didn't like. I'm sure there are a few others.

I didn't like that he showed up out of shape, actually—whether I drafted him or not. I also didn't like the rah-rah stuff that I thought (and I think I was right) wouldn't translate well to the NFL. I will tell you what. You can probably find me on these boards absolutely loving what he did with LA to get his career back on track. I think I'll find that.

Here you go:

I'm admittedly all over this guy in '19 and '20. So you make a reasonable point.

So far? Probably true. These games are all L's without his heroics.

Overall EOY?

Not likely. He doesn't have the horses right now to put up the big numbers. I can't see them beating the Eagles Sunday with 9 starters out. He's got the Lions, Bills, and Rams on the schedule still too. Maybe if they can get at least two of those 4 big games and he goes nuts with the stats after his linemen and WRs are back?

What are you guys thinking this week? Big Mike is on the shelf. Beat up O-line. Dirty eagles…..Bucs are at home though.

Wirfs/Godwin status matters a lot. He's a guy I could see sitting if you drafted a good backup like Caleb or Maye, maybe even Love given the Cowboys secondary.

Yea I have him in a start 2 QB league along with Caleb and Staff. Big distance TD bonuses…..Baker is made for this league! But right now, I’m leaning Caleb/Staff. And also I feel like if I sit Baker I will regret it!

@Bronco Billy

Apparently the situation is a little more nuanced than this zinger that Wilks sort of calmly and succinctly responds with, but apparently Wilks was told by Baker if he started someone else he wanted his release. I mean, this is sort of what I'm getting at, only I was either too tired or just not bright enough to think it through. Something was just wrong with Mayfield's claim and his personal indignation is just misplaced, and you kind of know he's just unkind and thoughtless even if all you can point to is just a sense of unease. But it seems like he just does and says stuff like this, no?

Or no.

But the picture of Wilks looking bit forlorn but with an "are you kidding me?" kind of expression is perfect.

Jets DC Steve Wilks responds to Baker Mayfield, who said last week’s game was personal because Wilks cut him in Carolina:“I don’t think an interim coach has much say over personnel. If that were the case, I wouldn’t have gotten rid of our best player, Christian McCaffrey.” Zing. #Jets

Then there's this Tweet, which really gets at the essence of Baker. I agree with this guy except for him liking Baker. It's like even if you like Baker you know he's an *******.

I love me some Baker — and I get he’s a supreme competitor who looks for The Juice — but his comments on Sunday were kind of ****ty … needlessly getting after Wilks then somehow positioning Haason Reddick as a victim of his own misguided contract hostage event.

Yeah. Big Mayfield fan here. I posted that I wished Dallas would’ve gone after him when he was a FA. But rocks right here imo

Thanks, man. I'm actually not too aggrieved by Baker. He plants flags in the opposition's territory and he's rah-rah in a sort of jock way. Okay, man. I am not what anybody would call prissy or feminine. Just never heard that directed at me, and I get it.

Charge, bud!

My problem is when he sort of dehumanizes somebody by taking a longtime coach who is a first-time interim guy and who is forced to take on some professional responsibilities that are difficult. Most of us realize they're difficult decisions that entail crappy conversations and we're unhappy and disagree with the result. But we realize that those things are a necessary evil that the person doesn't like and we wish that person grace because that's life and we know that they don't enjoy it. And we also do it because might need some of that same grace someday.

So taking that situation and personalizing it with a five year-old's understanding that evil is when Mommy tells you it's bedtime and now she's just the worst because you didn't get your way and . . .

That's how this all strikes me. Publicly turning this guy into an object of scorn because Baker couldn't be King **** Of **** Mountain of the Carolina Panthers.

C'mon.

It really doesn’t have to be more complicated than “this guy cut me.” Does it? Cutting Baker Mayfield was clearly a dumb thing to do.

The Panthers were a disaster. They’re just like any other organization that’s a disaster who keeps blaming their QB and replacing that guy every ******** year.

Sorta does. Wilks doesn't really make that decision, especially when you said if you weren't starting you wanted to be cut, which probably affects your pocketbook in some way, so you ask for professional courtesy and it's granted to you, and then years later you hold some weird grudge against the guy who gave you that courtesy. So you **** on him?

Dude, Baker sucked for a long time. I don't care what he is now. They needed to find out how to play. Both him and Sam. Tepper clearly sucks. I realize you're a homer, but coming with arguments and justifications for being a cad with an eighth-grader's mentality is an odd white knight.

Hope Jalen Carter says hi to Bakes tomorrow, and me cheering for Philly or that guy takes quite some doing. I'd enjoy the Brady Super Bowl, because lol, you ain't seeing one with Mayfield as your QB. Peace.

🤣

I hope you don't take that as hostile or nasty, @Grahamburn. I've always enjoyed your Bucs posts. I just found it odd and funny. Maybe I'm incorrect or untoward here. I just think it's pretty clear he did Wilks, who I have no football love for nor any of the Jets anymore, kind of dirty. It seems obvious, but I could be missing something.

They had Baker taking scout team edge reps in Carolina.

Yeah, I have more clips of him being a ludicrous idiot if you'd like. I have one where he blames the Jets for Haason Reddick's holdout and then lionizes Reddick and blames the Jets for Reddick coming back to salvage his service time by jogging during DE game reps around the field to honor his "contract."

I don't like the Jets' organization either. Baker's just acting petulant and stupidly dumb. People are just shaking their head. Would you like me to post that idiocy with peoples' reactions to it?

Dude, I used to cheer like utter mad for David Ortiz. Could be my favorite Red Sox ever. Like take that value and cube it exponentially. But I could also tell you when he was inappropriate or anti-social or rude or a dipshit.

You can take the blinders off. We can have wildly imperfect heroes that we're not always takimg the side of. It shows a sturdiness of character and an evenhandedness in our judgments. People will trust us more rather than getting tribal with us because they might see that we're fair. You know?

Or I can just post another clip where he looks like a jackass.

I just . . . there isn't a person on Twitter not calling him an idiot.

Like, there isn't a comment that doesn't shake their head at Baker, ridicule him, set the record straight . . . you name it. Baker shoots this video and uploads it and says the Jets did Bowles dirty after he took us to the playoffs. Rosenblatt is either the Athletic or a beat writer. Or ESPN. Big publication. Meritorious.

… Todd Bowles didn’t take the Jets to the playoffs. … i can’t remember who caused the “chaos” for Haason Reddick

I guess everybody has their opinion and people will be contrarian and stick up for their heroes and all that stuff. I think people younger than me might be compensating because they have no God or country so they need something?

I don't know and I can't really psychoanalyze it or analyze it period. It's bizarre and slightly problematic not only to act this way but to have people offer defenses for that person.

I honestly don't get it in the least. I also think it is indeed troubling and disconcerting. It ruins trust, courtesy, fidelity, and honor. I dunno. You can have him.

Not really, man. Grahamburn, who I like, is defending the guy as if his behavior is cool or fine.

I'm rebutting that. It's a counterargument. That's all. It's called marshaling the weight of the evidence in your favor.

You’re using a lot of words to point out something we already all know. Baker will use anything as fuel for motivation.

I don’t think he crapped on Wilkes for his decision or Carolina’s decision. Just pointed out in a press conference after playing him that they made that decision. And they insulted HIM by having him run scout team edge reps at practice after benching him. “He cut me. I wanted to beat him.” It’s the truth. We could use more of it in these press conferences. They’d be interesting.

Is that insulting? Not really.

As far as Reddick goes clearly he had a grudge because he expected something from the Jets that they didn’t give him. Bowles too. “Personal for a lot of guys today.”

Sometimes it’s personal. So what?

Hey, last comment and then I'll end it. It's a message board. The bolded is not what I'm saying nor would I agree to frame it that way.

You don't really seem to understand what I'm saying at all, and it might be generational. Or it might be how we were raised, or how we understand the world and seek to move through it. It's not worth it and let's get back to football. Take care and peace.

Did anyone read the Dynasty QB Overrated Article FBG posted.

Bro is balling with a banged up knee and the writer called him Overrated. WTF

Baker Mayfield is on thin ice in terms of his profile. His Jameis Winston-esque moments have been more than moments this season, yet the credit card bill has yet to come down. His 8:1 TD-INT ratio is one of the most inflated in the NFL, considering his 11:9 BTT ratio. One specific example was his long touchdown to Emeka Egbuka in Week 4, passing through two defenders' hands on the way to Egbuka and a casual run to the end zone - a likely interception or at least an incompletion turned touchdown.

You can what if so many plays. Positively or negatively.

The INT is a TD to Godwin if it isn’t tipped.

The offense is incredibly beat up. I don’t know that they’ll ever be 100% healthy this season, but if they are Baker has everything he needs to put up huge numbers down the stretch.

Including a favorable schedule. They’re going through a run of really tough defenses right now.

Or at least clickbaity
