Apparently the situation is a little more nuanced than this zinger that Wilks sort of calmly and succinctly responds with, but apparently Wilks was told by Baker if he started someone else he wanted his release. I mean, this is sort of what I'm getting at, only I was either too tired or just not bright enough to think it through. Something was just wrong with Mayfield's claim and his personal indignation is just misplaced, and you kind of know he's just unkind and thoughtless even all you can point to is just a sense of unease. But it seems like he just does and says stuff like this, no?
Or no.
But the picture of Wilks looking bit forlorn but with an "are you kidding me?" kind of expression is perfect.

Jets DC Steve Wilks responds to Baker Mayfield, who said last week’s game was personal because Wilks cut him in Carolina:“I don’t think an interim coach has much say over personnel. If that were the case, I wouldn’t have gotten rid of our best player, Christian McCaffrey.” Zing.

Then there's this Tweet, which really gets at the essence of Baker. I agree with this guy except for him liking Baker. It's like even if you like Baker you know he's an *******.

I love me some Baker — and I get he’s a supreme competitor who looks for The Juice — but his comments on Sunday were kind of ****ty … needlessly getting after Wilks then somehow positioning Haason Reddick as a victim of his own misguided contract hostage event.
