Bo's usage with first string but against second and third string
To clarify (using Allbright's own words), what Allbright says is "basically" true.
However, in the first preseason game (Colts), Nix also played primarily
with 2nd and 3rd teamers. Only his first out of five series was with first team.
The Packers did sit their starters in the second game, but in the joint practices earlier that week it was 1's vs 1's and Nix showed pretty well.
Obviously anything that occurs in the preseason needs to be taken with a big grain of salt...but Benjamin Allbright is also not the most precise reporter when it comes to making his point.
Well the Broncos did a poor job of predicting who will make the team, start and be what string, and assigning minutes/opportunities related to that
There's a growing number of people rightfully upset that the guys cut and that left got the bulk of the work over the inexperienced ones. I think it started last year with Lil Jordan and Mims and grew from there in a bothersome way to fans.
That's a poor job by the experienced Sean Payton.
As far as Nix, the QB must have a rapport with the starting WRs which apparently worked out in this messed up summer for them. The other is the backs + TE (safety valve) and the all important OL communication and adjustments.
It could be minimal and everyone is a pros pro here but chances are there are sacks and whoops stuff the first bit of the season that could have been worked out.
Meh. I'm a pretty stalwart Broncos fan and believe that Payton & Co. have done a phenomenal job this offseason. There's a palpable change in team culture and a core of young, hungry, aggressive players on the ascent of their career.
From the cut list (below), WR Lil Jordan and FB Michael Burton are the only ones that got cut that significant reps during preseason. But Payton has known all along those guys would clear waivers and, like last year, he could elevate them from the practice squad when needed.
Tim Patrick got significant run in the Packers game but in retrospect that was showcasing for a trade that unfortunately didn't work out.
At QB, none of the players would have respected Nix in the huddle if he didn't earn it right in front of their eyes. Yes, that required Stidham to getting some first team reps but it came with the huge benefit that now everyone in the locker room is bought in. No different than multiple other positional competitions held this summer.
This team is finally being built the right way IMO.
