QB Deshaun Watson, CLE (4 Viewers)

This may have been addressed in here already, but would missing all of last year be considered as part of his punishment?  I know he was paid, but anymore missed games seems like it would be on top of a 17 game "suspension".
I was looking into this, because I couldn't remember whether or not Watson was suspended last season in some fashion -- either by the Texans or by the league (that catch-all list that the NFL puts players on sometimes, forget the name).

What the Texans actually did last season is carry Watson on their 53-man roster all of the 2021 season, but sat him out each week. Basically, they worked with a 52-man roster all last season.

EDIT: Commisioner's Exempt List ... thanks, Buckna!

Can't help but wonder if this is the strongest player empowerment move I've even seen. Hope this does not set a trend, afraid it will.

One would think 17 instead of 16 🤷
Yeah, that also occurred to me. Why would they do 16?

I can see it now: Week 18, the Saints are 3-13, and here comes Watson to a standing O.

So Atlanta just opened the coin purse on Casey Heyward.

While not a blockbuster deal, it strikes me that ATL spending $ might be a tell that they aren’t the landing spot.

Crimes must generally be proved "beyond a reasonable doubt", whereas civil cases are proved by lower standards of proof such as "the preponderance of the evidence" (which essentially means that it was more likely than not that something occurred in a certain way).

Yeah thats what I was trying to get at. I just used the wrong wording on it.

Had similar thought and then Kyle Pitts tweeting and then deleting that things are about to get scary in Atlanta in last half hour is giving me second thoughts.

There is absolutely no way Atlanta can outbid NO.  If he ends up there it further shows how terrible the Texans are as a franchise. Pitts would be the only logical way he goes to Atlanta.

Do we know for sure that the Panthers are out of it, or just based on that one article by FantasyPros?

According to Joe Person of The Athletic, the Panthers are likely out on Deshaun Watson.

That's "barring a Hail Mary," according to Person, who is the Panthers' top beat writer. It appears Watson is heavily leaning toward the Saints, but the Falcons are also still in the mix. The Panthers are stuck with Sam Darnold for the time being.

I have a hard time seeing 8-16.
I definitely can’t see 16-17. I am convinced that any teams dealing for him have at least some idea what the suspension will likely be. If a full year suspension is on the table, teams would want a big discount on the trade but then the Texans don’t have to pay Watson his $35MM so they could just sit on him for another year for basically free. His salary would hit their cap but they wouldn’t have to actually pay it is my understanding.

Pro Football Network's Aaron Wilson confirms Deshaun Watson's trade decision has come down to the Saints and Falcons.

In Wilson's language, the Saints are "very much still a strong contender," while the Falcons are "the other top candidate." The Browns have been formally eliminated and the Panthers relegated to desperation third option, if that. Kyle Pitts created a Twitter stir when he tweeted things were about to get "scary" in Atlanta, though he quickly deleted and claimed he was posting about Casey Hayward. Whatever. We should have a resolution Thursday.

Atlanta for the Texans would have better draft picks and players come back than the Saints. The Saints won't give up all their young studs for us but I am sure the Falcons could include AJ Terrell and probably better picks than the Saints

That and Atlanta doesnt have to outbid anyone.  That isnt how this works this time

Better picks…..yes.  Better players……no, not even close.   That team has about as much talent as the Texans.  Pitts and Jarrett is about it.  Why would he want to go to that team if he wants a contender.  It would be mind boggling.

Right now the Texans have offers they would accept from either the Saints or Falcons.  The Saints and Falcons are not competing against each other for trade compensation.  They are competing for consent (haha) from Watson.

My guess is the Texans hope Watson picks the Falcons.  Chances are it's a more valuable trade package considering their 1st this year is a lot higher than the Saints, and next years 1st would be also

Perhaps he isnt a frontrunner and just simply wants to play on a certain team??

I am thinking of this from the Texans perspective haha. Those picks would be great for us if he goes to ATL and I am sure several players would be off limits from the Saints. Saints would be the worst package to get back for us

The only team I’ve heard he wanted was SF and they weren’t interested.  Everything I’ve read is that he wants to play for a contender.  If he goes to the Falcons, how long until there a competing team after the picks and players they give up?  Just my observation and question.

I think its pretty obvious that if he goes to Atlanta that all those reports were quite misinformed.

If I was Watson, I dunno if I would be super concerned about the current roster. He's young, he'll be around a lot longer than any player on any team he does go to.

Whoever he thinks has the best organization, top to bottom, that's what he should do. None of these teams really blow me away with their roster, so he needs to figure out who will be able to get a team around him

Who exactly is Watson throwing to in Atlanta? Pitts, a later round rookie (since they'll be trading their early picks, and some scrubs? They also don't have a RB.

Watson is from Georgia and was once a ball boy for the Falcons. He’s likely weighing his desire to play for a current contender vs. his boyhood, hometown team. Not an easy decision IMO.

Atlanta has long been known for being a quality organization, and Blank seems like a good team owner.
