QB Deshaun Watson, CLE (5 Viewers)

And if I’m Watson’s team, I’m doing exactly the same thing. I don’t see it as “bad faith” at all.

That sounds like sour grapes.

Any agent/team is going to use the other teams offers as leverage in negotiation.  That’s just how it works. Especially in a situation where 3 teams in the same division are making competing offers in a bidding war.

The only bit I don’t like is the “he’s gonna sleep on it” and then “he might take the weekend to decide”.

just get it done. Stop holding up FA for so many teams/players, and pick a team already. This delay is wholly unnecessary.

But the contract bidding war stuff, and how CAR might feel about it or if they were used as a tool? Happens all the time. No bad faith there, just smart business.
My take is that the Falcons don’t want to rush Ryan out the door.  Been too important to the franchise for them to do that.  I don’t know if I’d say Watson is doing the Falcons a solid by ‘taking the weekend’…but if the Falcons won the Watson Derby, it was going to be a two part process for them and I think they want to afford Ryan some space/time to get to the right situation based on available offers.

this was what I was mauling, but still don't see it for a first rounder. I am absolutely discounting how desperate teams can get so anything can happen in the next few days, but looking at this logically:

teams that have to get a QB between now and start of season: Seattle, Indy, maybe Cleveland, Houston assuming Mills isn't their guy and i don't think they think that.

teams that probably doesn't have its QB of the future in their current roster: maybe Cleveland, New Orleans, Carolina, PIttsburgh, NY Giants.

only Cleveland stands out as a win now team and they don't look like a good fit for Ryan. Maybe Pittsburgh, but are they built to win in the next year or two? i can see Pitt wanting him on the cheap, like these other teams, but a first seems like a reach. Washington took on that dumb big contract already, so it would be crazy to even consider they would approach any deals for a QB at that price.
Indy lost five one score games last year (including 4 to playoff teams). The stats show that they should have been close to an 11-win team. Had they had Ryan last year, chances are they probably make the playoffs.

The Saints started 4 different QBs and still won 9 games. They had 3 one score games and were saddled with injuries. I don't know how much better they would be with Ryan, but they also would likely have been a playoff team in the NFC.

PIT was a playoff team, and had they not already signed someone, a case could be made that they would be better with Ryan than the shell of Big Ben.

The point being, there are several teams that might benefit from Ryan, even if he is 36. On a better team with some weapons and an OL, I don't think it's crazy to suggest he might have 2-3 decent seasons in him.

I think he will get traded for more than some people think. Either a first or a couple of decent later picks (say a 2, 3, and 5 with a 4 coming with Ryan).

Per Schefty, Watson has told the Texans he'd waive the no-trade clause to join Cleveland.

Baker Mayfield is on the clock

Browns are giving Deshaun Watson a new deal, per sources. The $184M over the first four years of this contract is a $48M raise over the $136M he was scheduled to make over the same four years on the previous contract - a $12M a-year raise in that span

Crazy.  The question is what major players do they trade ?  Is Ward part of the trade ?  Any other major players ?

I hope not but we will see.

Wait a minute, he went from 4/140 to 5/230M Fully Guaranteed? Holt #### are some of those teammates going to hate him even though they want to win.

There might be another Brown or two that will have to be let go.
Yes it really happened that guy cried over his extension, never played a down on it, demanded a trade, got hit with 22 sexual assuault allegations which remain uncleared in civil court, got paid for nothing last year and turned all of that into a huge guaranteed raise.

That's amazing

the next question should be whether Matt Ryan should pull a Baker move and ask for a trade. there's still a month and then some for the draft, more drama please!
