QB Deshaun Watson, CLE (1 Viewer)

I don't think Watson was ever as good as some thought he was. This was before the off field stuff as well which I wasn't surprised by considering some stuff people in the know when he came out said some stuff like he was a fake, came off as Cam Newton like in terms of all smiles for cameras completely different when Camera's off. Either way back to football never thought Watson was really anything special. Also the dude hasn't played football in almost 2 yrs live. He looked awful. Browns only won today because of how embarrassingly bad HOU is offensively.

Never thought Watson was anything special?

OK, must be some good smoke tonight. Good for you.

played in a weak ACC conference for yrs. Had some really special receivers while there. I saw him more as a McNabb type QB. Nothing great but not terrible and he rubbed me the wrong way at times.

You are not correct.

Yeah, you can see how Houston took off as soon as they got rid of him.

Dude didn't want to be there not really a team player. Signed a contract despite then saying he didn't trust the people there yet we find out later they were letting him use the facitilitys to be a pervert. Wasn't worth giving up the 1st rounders even before the other stuff came out.

This guy has a history of some serious “hot takes.” My favorite was the CeeDee Lamb/Jalen Reagor prediction.

OK, so you're inflexibly against him as you are inflexibly against Jalen Hurts and inflexibly for Carson Wentz. Thanks I guess.

Hot takes? More like "poor grammar"... yikes.

Looks like sitting out nearly 2 years will make you rusty.

I agree and was surprised so many thought he would jump right back in. Game speed cannot be replicated in practice. Another two and a half games to get his game speed back.
I was not surprised about the mis-read that caused the red zone INT, but that consistently wildly off target? Maybe not expecting that was naive of me. I figured the nail in the Browns coffin this season would be delivered this coming weekend, but now I'm tugging at my collar thinking this may be a curb stomping. Burrow's 0-4 against the Browns, the last two being blowout losses, one also in their home stadium, and the Bengals are peaking earlier than last season. I'm expecting them to enter this week on a mission and while I think this offense will eventually find their footing based on their starting point it doesn't look like it'll be this week. Obviously hope I'm wrong, but those rooting for this iteration of the Browns to fail may want to tune into this one.

I need it quicker than that. Signed Chubb and Cooper owner.
Signed Rodgers, Wilson, Heinecke, Carr, Garapollo owner.

I was hoping to get him in my line-up by week 15. Whoa boy!

haven't watched the film yet but heard he threw a lot of worm burners

just glancing at the game log, 19 of his 22 passing attempts were classified as "short"

the only shot downfield he completed was a 27 yarder to DPJ

next play he threw the RZ interception flotater

He doesn't have his mechanics/throwing motion down. He got torched by misreading/not seeing the safety on his pick. He doesn't completely have the playbook down by the head-scratching deep throw to no-one in the endzone. Not to mention the timing with his receivers and working with the offensive line, how to maximize his innate running ability that looked so-smooth, Stefanski will capitalize on that for sure.
Much bigger work in progress than 'some' assumed.
I don't think we'll see anything approaching what he did a few years ago for the next month.
It looked THAT bad.

So are you suggesting we look elsewhere on the wire for a QB to start next week? I'm so tired of single digit scores from my QB this year.

OMYGOD hell to the yeah.
Keep away for a few weeks.
7 rushes for 21 yards. Did he get fat, slow, and old?
He looked great running the ball, the only thing that looked really good.

My league is 1 pt per 25 and 4 pt pass TDs so even a so so running performance would be an ok start.
This is the only FF reason for optimism IMHO.
He looked 'smooth' running the ball, effortless, vast improvement over Brissett who looked clunky whenever he took off.
I think Stefanski will use a lot more RPOs and capitalize on Watson's running ability. It is something to hang a hat on if you are looking for something till he regains his throwing skills.

Thanks Bracie. I'm the guy who turns down the Let's Make A Deal cash for what's in the box.

During the game there were multiple passes that went to no one (as well as quite a few in the dirt), looked like not just rust but that he is not on the same page with the playbook or his wide receivers. There was one in particular where Watson made a hand signal to Cooper who nodded his head in acknowledgment but when the ball was snapped Cooper ran a hitch to the 1st down marker IIRC and Watson threw it deep. Clearly some miscommunication.

2 years away from the game for a QB is a career nightmare. He was good, but i don't see how he ever gets it back. He'll still have the arm. But the ability to process and the swagger ... it may never return. Oh well .... he'll have $230 million of CLE's $$s to spend so that's sweet for him.

I just watched the film from yesterday, and his pocket awareness and movement looks right. The process looks right. What looked a little off was the touch on his throws. Everything was a dart.

He'll be fine. Just needs more actual gametime reps.

Keep in mind the DEF/ST took away three potential possessions yesterday (in a good way for Browns fans).

This is a good point, although Browns overall had a 5 minute advantage in possession.

It was a weird game... like they were afraid to turn him loose. I was actually rooting for the Texans to somehow get the lead so that the browns would have been forced to let it rip.

Browns always beat Joe Burrow. Two years ago Baker beat him twice in shootouts, had a 5 TD game in Cinci. Their defense has throttled him the last two games in Cleveland.

While I realize those games have little to nothing to do with Deshaun or Week 14, it's gotta bug him that's never beaten them. 3-2 v PIT, 2-2 v BAL, 0-4 v CLE. Anything can happen in divisional games.
