QB Jameis Winston, NYG (2 Viewers)

Mayock: 'His touch and accuracy is kind of scary.'
Somebody said every throw has been perfect so far... Which prompted that comment by Mayock.
2014 tape says another story.
Lot easier to teach Jameis better decision-making (on the field, anyway) than to teach Mariota to throw the 10 yard out.
Sure, but then you're putting your faith in what's going on upstairs Winston. If he were the complete package it'd be one thing, but he's not.

No, it really doesn't.
His feet are a mess whether there is pressure or not. Also, kinda like in golf, the best quarterbacks minimize the damage of their bad mistakes. His are bad. Too often real bad.

I have no idea what your watching with when you look at Winston, but it's not the same thing as me.

It's really hysterical.

I have no clue if Winson is dumb, but while he came off well in that presser yesterday, actions speak louder than words, and he needs to stop doing dumb ### things off the field before some believe he has the tools, the mentality and the brains to be a franchise QB for the long haul.
The immaturity is evident on the field too. That's a bigger problem imho
It's not lack of intelligence (by all accounts he's smart) but his immaturity combined with arrogance will make it hard for him to adjust to the NFL. Let's see how he handles losing and the media questioning his ability instead of worshiping him. Everything about him screams Ryan Leaf.

I've watched plenty. Just re watched 2 games this week in prep for the combine. It only solidifies that I think youre way off.

Neither one is the complete package. So saying that really doesn't matter.

The things that are concerns about Winston, maturity and on-field decision-making, get fixed every year. Every single year, players that have maturity issues come into the league, and grow up, or demonstrate that the concerns are overblown. Not as much at QB, so that might be give one a bit more concern, but the fact is, everything that may be 'broken' on Winston is very, very fix-able. I don't particularly like the person, and have been screwing around a bit because Capella is getting a bit hysterical, but I don't think this guy is another JaMarcus or anything.

Mariota, maybe he is every bit the passer Winston is. Maybe. But whoever drafts him is guessing that he can make all the NFL throws, and put it in tight windows, and shows more NFL accuracy than he has shown in college. However, if that is indeed a problem, and needs to be fixed, good luck. All the leadership, and quiet lead by example stuff won't matter if he can't pass the ball at a high level.

I can't believe stuff like this even has to be spelled out...it's not rocket science, unless you are close-minded on this.

The bolded is the key. More than a 'bit' of concern considering we don't have an example of a QB like him being successful in the NFL.

I agree, so give me the guy I trust from the neck up. Qb is different than every other position. Want a good one for a long time? Get the one with a good head on his shoulders and mask his flaws.

Expect to see stuff like this written about Winston in a couple of years:

Jenny Vrentas, the interviewer, asked Tarkenton about Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. Tarkenton pulled no punches with his answers, shredding the third-year pro and claiming that he’ll be out of the league soon.

I said two years ago that RG3 would not make it. This guy comes from a good family, a good background, a good school, Baylor; he’s a smart young man, physically gifted, he can throw it. But he came into the league with an arrogance. He goes into Washington, which is the worst place for him to go. They have been so hungry for a quarterback, and for winning, they worshipped him. Here’s RG3; he’s our savior, he’s our guy. His father gets involved and is in the locker room—I have never seen a father in a locker room on Sundays. The owner, Dan Snyder, adopts him and becomes his best friend. So RG3, at 21, 22, thought he was Jesus, right? And he was making pontifical statements about how he approached the game. I was listening to him the offseason after his rookie year, which was not a bad year, and I’m saying, “Holy s—, this guy is out of control with his ego.” That was the first sign you saw that he lacked leadership.

Then, he was so into himself. You know a quarterback’s job? Make his teammates better. It’s not about you; it’s about your teammates. You’ve got to make them better, and if you don’t make them better, you have no chance. And he was all about RG3. I sympathize with Jay Gruden. Gruden came out and pointed out, which is right, that he has no mechanics. He is a terrible passer, has no accuracy, he doesn’t understand the offense, he doesn’t read defenses, and he has no discipline. When he is supposed to take a three-yard drop, he takes a one-yard drop; if he is supposed to take a five-yard drop, it’s a three-yard drop. There’s no discipline and understanding of the defense because he is a pontificator. He will never make it. He will be out of football. He will be in the same graveyard as JaMarcus Russell and Vince Young.

Yes we do, and examples have been given. Not as often as some bringing up his INT percentage, but a lot.

In fact, if we just go with sexual assault accusations, there's a QB with two rings in Pittsburgh.

It doesn't, not something I haven't already considered. Winston's bad 2014 tape was my deal breaker. He needed to be clearly better on the field to be considered number one and he wasn't.

Eisen: 'Lets be honest...this guy is fantastic'.

I know it was expected, but this combine can't go any better for Jameis.

He's had one bit of adversity in his entire life - the Rose Bowl loss.

I don't think that's fair. That's a 20 year old kid in that video who was so good that was the only college loss he ever had. Everyone would be sour over that. The NFL's level of talent and the team he will be going to will familiarize him with losing and making mistakes that will humble him up real quick.

I thought they both looked good today.

Just curious, if you were the Bucs GM would you trade the #1 pick for Newton straight up?

Jameis Winston - QB - Seminoles

NESN's Doug Kyed spoke with one anonymous scout who believes QB Jameis Winston's shoulder is "bad."

Winston's "shoulder won’t be an issue in the short-term, but it’s viewed as a long-term problem by this team. The injury was categorized as a "real issue.", Kyed writes. We do not have info teams do, but this seems like a story that grew legs due to the lack of medical info usually reported, or at least similar cases. Do not expect it to impact his draft projection.

People love to hate this guy. It's amazing. If he's actually super successful we might have our first player-hate related suicide.
Why are you so high on him exactly? Not challenging or doubting just curious.
Throws with best anticipation I've seen out of a college QB other than Luck. Not scared of the moment. Tremendous, tremendous leader. Plenty of arm and has demonstrated every throw an NFL QB has to make, particularly in tight pockets.Made some bad throws this year but he was playing with 3 true freshman out of the 4 main skill spots. For some reason people continue to disregard this. If he was a dork off the field, or not a black guy from Alabama with a thick southern accent people would be tripping over themselves about him.
Yes, I would rather have a dork off the field like Peyton, Brady, Brees, Rodgers, wait...every other successful NFL QB.
Manning had a sexual assault charge in college too. Pulled his #### out in front of some girl.
It was actually teabagging, but while stupid and a crime it was done in a locker room to a member of the staff in front of witnesses. I don't get it but it's a weird Southern thing that the people down there think is normal.
I can't believe I just read this. The bolded part is amazing. :lmao:

@nfldraftscout: If you're being objective, easy to see Jameis is the best passer in this class.

Soooooo...this doesn't apply to a few people here.

So there is info a team has that was not reported...info that leads them to believe his shoulder will have long term issues...but this will not impact his draft status?

This would appear to be the only thing keeping him from going #1.

I can't decide what my favorite part is. The implication that it's ok because he just teabagged a member of the staff, or the insane statement that people in the south think it's normal.

the insane statement that people in the south think it's normal.
My nephew was on a football team in Alabama (Bessemer actually) and he told me they did that all the time (14 year olds BTW).

I've never said he wasn't the best pure passer...just like Ryan Leaf was the best pure passer in the '98 draft.

Arent you the guy that thought Johnny Football was going to be all Pro? I could go back through that thread and see but I am pretty sure it was you.

my favorites so far

It's the narrative the media is pushing and they have you hooked, perception = reality. Is it? We'll find out in a month. They're taking a few pictures and videos and twisting it into their own story because they don't have anything else that will get ratings to talk about right now.

Is he working? how much? how hard? is he partying every day? once per week? is he sloshed every time a picture gets taken of him?

You, I, and 99.9% of the people talking about it have no idea. The bashing is predictable and hilarious though. Unlike the senseless Bridgewater bashing that led up to the draft, that was just maddening. Funny how that has all stopped though. Media stopped getting clicks saying the same thing over and over again, so - no longer a story.
He doesn't care what you, the media, or anyone thinks. He does what he wants to do. He's been successful despite that approach in the past, so why change?

I'm leaving the avi up as punishment for a while. I bought Johnny was a wildcard. He's just a drunk though. I was very clear about preferring Bridgewater though. He should have went #1 overall.

do whatever you need to do to fit your narrative.
I am just posting your quotes on how you were defending Johnny up until the bitter bitter end. Your "eye for talent" regarding quarterbacks particularly Winston is why we are talking about it.
