QB Joe Burrow, CIN (3 Viewers)

I think that article is a bit disingenuous to the Bengals. Every QB gets sacked from time to time and it only takes one awkward hit to create that devastation. It’s a brutal game and knees are not meant to withstand that pressure.

Having said that, the Bengals were clearly pushing their luck more than any other team with how much pressure Burrow was under all year. It seemed only a matter of time - and sadly it happened.
Taylor is running a Mike Martz style offense.  That offense was great for a few years until defenses adjusted and tee’d off on the unprotected QB.

My heart goes out to the Cincinnati fan base, you all deserve better than this and should be celebrating Burrow, that plan is now up in the air.

The only thing I was hoping when Tua was in Denver was that he wouldn't get hurt. He took at least 6 sacks in the game and he got his ankle or leg caught towards the end of the game, could have been really bad but it appeared he was OK, replay didn't look that good to me.

Cinci and Miami both were wretched last year but Miami started to show some signs of life and the Front Office and coaches started building before the QB got here, I just don't see what Cinci did leading up to drafting Joe Burrow. You invest that kind of selection/money whatever you want to protect your investment, it's possible he shouldn't have started until they got the OL somewhat assembled, let Finley be the one who pays the price. Miami was running Fitz out there but if he was injured, oh well, he knows Miami was using him a bit to cover up a shoddy OL.
Finley is awful.  His arm strength makes Dalton look like Favre.  It was disgraceful they did not bring in a veteran with legitimate experience at the start of the season.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo said Joe Burrow's multi-ligament knee injury suffered Sunday against Washington is comparable to Carson Wentz's 2017 knee injury.

Wentz tore his ACL and LCL in December 2017 and went on to miss 2018's first two regular season games. Burrow, placed on season-ending IR on Monday, tore his ACL and MCL -- a graphic injury that the CBS broadcast refused to show during the game. "There's a lot of confidence that he's going to come back fully from this one ... maybe not 100 percent by the start of next season, but perhaps on the field for the start of next season," Garafolo said. Barring complication, Burrow should be back under center for the Bengals in 2021 -- it's just a matter of whether he'll miss early regular season action while rehabbing his devastating injury.

not that it means anything, but the physician that comes to our office 1x a week (huge football fan) said 2022 is best case based on what he saw/read.

again, doesnt mean much without him being able to see the scans and such, but that's his pro opinion based on the info available.

poor, poor kid. DRAFT OLINE ONLY FOR 2 YEARS

Joe Burrow on Wednesday "underwent successful surgery" on his injured knee, according to the Bengals.

The team says Burrow is expected to make a full recovery from a torn ACL and MCL. So that's good. Burrow suffered the horrific knee injury in Week 11 against Washington, cutting short his superb rookie campaign. Burrow's multi-ligament injury has been compared to what Carson Wentz recovered from in 2017. Wentz tore his ACL and LCL in December 2017 and went on to miss 2018's first two regular season games. There's a real chance Burrow doesn't suit up for the team's 2021 season opener.

@QuizGuy66 - more positive news on Joe Burrow:

Bengals coach Zac Taylor said "everything seems on pace" in Joe Burrow's recovery from ACL surgery.

“He’s been around quite a bit. He does everything he can possibly do right now. He’s adamant about that,” Taylor said. “I’m very careful to make predictions, but everything has been positive so far." Burrow hopes to resume throwing in mid-February. If he can avoid setbacks, there's a chance Burrow, who tore his ACL and LCL in December, can be ready for Week 1.

Joe Burrow faced pressure on 32.3 percent of his drop backs in 2020, the 15th highest rate in the NFL.

Burrow has reportedly lobbied the Bengals front office to take LSU wideout Ja'Marr Chase with the fifth pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, forgoing on a top offensive lineman who could bolster protection for Burrow. In his rookie campaign, Burrow didn't face nearly as much pressure as QBs like Russell Wilson, Daniel Jones, and Kirk Cousins. Pass volume meant Burrow absorbed the second most sacks (31) before his season ended in Week 10 with a brutal Week 10 ACL injury. Burrow wasn't particularly good under pressure, completing a meager 37.3 percent of his passes when facing pressure in the pocket -- the second lowest mark in the league, better than only Drew Lock. Whether the Bengals go with Chase -- a widely held theory in NFL circles -- or top offensive line prospect Penei Sewell will be a central storyline in the draft's first night.

Given Burrow’s injury, I’d be shocked if they didn’t take Sewell unless his stock really drops by the draft.

All hype around either Chase or Pitts heading to Cinncy. They have to protect Joe, has to be Sewell.

FYI Burrow and Higgins owner😉

There are also articles suggesting that the Bengals should take Kyle Pitts or Ja'Marr Chase, and then they can address the offensive line with other draft picks, as this is a quality draft class for offensive line prospects.

I'm not convinced it's the left tackle that's the main problem on the Bengals' o-line.

Jonah Williams was the 11th pick a couple years ago and wasn't playing all that bad until he himself got hurt last year.

I guess they could move him elsewhere.

Bengals QB Joe Burrow (knee) is ahead of schedule and "expecting to play Game 1."

Burrow added that he also expects to take part in practice but didn't specify when that would happen. He might not get a full summer of practices in but these are all good signs for the former first overall pick. Burrow suffered a torn MCL and ACL in Week 11 of the 2020 season. The injuries would ultimately require offseason surgery to repair. Burrow began throwing recently but has yet to resume rolling out. Now on the mend, Burrow is optimistic on every aspect of his recovery. If he's right, the second-year quarterback should enter the 2021 season without a hitch.

ESPN's Ben Baby reports rookie WR Ja'Marr Chase could improve the Bengals' quick passing game and help protect Joe Burrow from pressure and hits.

The Bengals were on the receiving end of much post-draft criticism after they took Chase with the fifth pick over LT Penei Sewell, who was drafted by Detroit two picks later. Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan said Chase -- who shredded opposing secondaries after the catch at LSU -- should help Joe Burrow run a quick-hitting passing attack that would prevent another season of constant pressure on the young QB. “What you see around the league is that it’s hard to hold the ball,” Callahan said after Cincinnati drafted Chase. “There’s nobody that sits back and drops back and hangs on to the ball for a long time because those guys on the other side are freak shows.” Burrow in 2020 was excellent when he didn't hang on to the ball. He ranked fourth among qualifying passers in expected completion percentage on attempts under four seconds, according to NFL Next Gen. Burrow was among the league's worst passers when he held the ball for more than four seconds. Burrow was second in the NFL in attempts under 2.5 seconds before his season-ending knee injury; his pressure rate on those throws ranked tenth among qualifying quarterbacks.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Bengals QB Joe Burrow (ACL) is "all systems go" for Week 1.

The quote comes directly from Dr. Neal ElAttrach, a doctor working with the Bengals on Burrow's rehabilitation. Burrow previously stated that he expects to be ready for Week 1 as well. It's possible that Burrow is held out of the preseason to lengthen his timetable as much as possible but all signs point to the former first-overall pick suiting up for Cincinnati's Week 1 game against the Vikings. With questions about his health in the rearview, Burrow is a high-upside QB2 in fantasy drafts.

Yeah - so far so good :)

Held out of the deep throws which is fine.

Nice to see the team buy in on the OTAs - will be interesting to see how they are different.

I hope he takes the league by storm this year.  A late buddy of mine was a huge Bengals fan and I wish he were alive today to see what they are building.  Yes, they need to fix many areas, but you have to love their skill players.

Bengals QB Joe Burrow said he's working on his accuracy on deep throws this offseason.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated about his long recovery from last year's season-ending knee injury, Burrow -- who participated in OTAs last week -- said he was frustrated by his misfires down the field in 2020. “I just wasn’t accurate as I was the year before [at LSU] down the field. And that was frustrating to me, because I’ve always been a good down-the-field thrower," he said. "Just getting back to the basics of that, really focusing on my fundamentals. I just started running and throwing a few weeks ago, so standing and throwing, and focusing on the fundamentals helped.” Burrow was indeed poor on throws of more than 20 yards downfield; he completed an atrocious nine of his 48 downfield attempts as a rookie. Only Dwayne Haskins and Mitchell Trubisky were worse on deep throws. A better deep-throwing Burrow in 2021 would be a fantasy boon for Tee Higgins, who led the Bengals with 28 downfield targets last season. Higgins caught nine of those passes at 32.3 yards per reception. In the same interview, Burrow admitted it's "hard to say how explosive I’m going to be in the run game as of right now.” A lack of rushing production could lower Burrow's weekly floor a year after he rushed 37 times for 143 yards and three touchdowns in nine full games.

Joe Burrow expects his knee to be fully healthy by the time training camp opens.

"The knee still has a little ways to go, but my upper body, right leg, everything else feels better than it ever has," Burrow said. "When I’m on the field and executing, I’m playing better than before." Burrow participated in Bengals' OTAs on a limited basis. He continues to trend in the right direction after tearing his MCL and ACL in December of last season. Burrow, who's been working on improving his deep accuracy, remains on track for Week 1.

Joe Burrow (knee) was cleared for training camp.

Burrow said his knee wasn't 100 percent last month. He was limited at OTAs but will be full-go for the start of camp. Burrow, who struggled on throws over 20 yards as a rookie, focused on improving his downfield accuracy this offseason. The addition of first-round WR Ja'Marr Chase should help open up the offense for Burrow in Year 2.

Joe Burrow has struggled badly with interceptions and inconsistency in training camp.

The Athletic's Jay Morrison and Paul Dehner Jr. report that the Bengals offense is turning the ball over multiple times in every practice. Burrow's struggles have been particularly noteworthy. "Throws that felt like layups last year are dropping harmlessly away from receivers or easily broken up by multiple defenders." The Bengals offensive line has also been a concern. One of Burrow's better throws to Ja'Marr Chase was only possible because Trey Hendrickson slowed down on his way to the franchise quarterback. It's the first week of August, and Burrow is less than nine months removed from a major knee injury. There's no need to over react to early training camp reports. Still, the Bengals ability to protect Burrow has been concern throughout the entire offseason. It will be all the more critical to provide a clean pocket if Burrow is at less than peak form to begin the season.

Too early to make a determination, but not a good early sign for Burrow considering his mobility is likely to be limited early on from the injury.
