QB Joe Burrow, CIN (2 Viewers)

Joe Burrow completed 23-of-36 attempts for 242 yards and two touchdowns, adding 31 yards on six carries in the Bengals' 27-10, Divisional Round win over the Bills.​

Burrow hit a wide-open Ja'Marr Chase on the first drive of the game for his first TD pass. He then found a wide-open Hayden Hurst on the Bengals' second drive for his second TD. With the Bills going three and out on their first two drives, the Bengals were in control of the game after just two possessions, and they never let the Bills back into the game. Burrow was missing several key contributors along the offensive line, but that didn't seem to create any issues for him. Burrow was rarely under heavy pressure and took only one sack. It's possible that the Bengals' line was helped out by snowy conditions that slowed down the Bills pass rush, but the Bengals generated defensive pressure throughout the game, so Burrow's line should get some credit here. If his blocking can hold up again, Burrow will be set up for an explosive outing against the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game.

... ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler quoted one league executive who expects Burrow’s deal to go north of the deal signed by Aaron Rodgers: “The expectation is both players sign new deals that surpass Rodgers’ league-high average of $50.3 million per year.”
...More than $50 million per year would put Burrow first in average annual value (AAV) amongst quarterbacks.
... the team has already established new cash flows for things like stadium upgrades and extensions.
... the Bengals have never had problems paying their top passers

If they want to keep the trio together he’s going to have to take a discount. Higgins is going to command top 15 money and chase eventually top 3
 

Joe Burrow completed 26-of-41 passes for 270 yards, one touchdown, and two interception in Cincinnati's 23-20, AFC Championship game loss to the Chiefs.​

The main thing holding Burrow back in this one was his own offensive line, which was gashed for five sacks, none bigger than a third-and-8 Chris Jones outside move past Hakeem Adeniji with 44 seconds left that forced a punt. They also helped Burrow rush for 30 yards on four tries, as he couldn't often get time to get through all of his reads. Tyler Boyd's injury also helped to slow down Cincinnati's passing attack as Trenton Irwin finished with just two targets and the Bengals had to scheme up ways to get their top two wideouts open. Burrow finished the year as QB4 in points per game behind Jalen Hurts, Patrick Mahomes, and Josh Allen. He'll probably be part of the second tier at quarterback next season in fantasy, but the stock of that tier went up handily in a tough season for quarterback streamers.

Joe Burrow tabbed as one of top NFL QB bargains...for now
That’s about to change in a big way —
...drafted by teams that don’t historically spend a lot, but the Bengals have operated their spending a bit differently since Burrow arrived, leading some to speculate they might be willing to make him guarantees they haven’t in past contracts.
... Burrow’s about to potentially “reset” the quarterback market...
 
Zac Taylor 3 weeks ago was on record as saying the "Bengals are ready now" to begin the contract extension and I think what he's saying is they already have a number in mind even if it's just 1 single dollar over the highest paid QB, they kinda have to start from there.

The only thing I can see getting in the way is signing bonus and guaranteed money. Hopefully they can all be excited about a $200M+ transaction but we'll see what Brown does, his track record is not good IMO and a lot of others in the media.

...Even signing a deal for $55 million per season would set a new mark for quarterbacks. With Lamar Jackson seeking a new deal worth more than $50 million AAV and Los Angeles Chargers star Justin Herbert also eligible for an extension, the price tag could climb even further.
 

Bengals HC Zac Taylor said the team has opened extension talks with QB Joe Burrow.​

The Bengals have had preliminary talks on an extension for Burrow, who has one year remaining on his rookie contract and an $11.5 million cap hit in 2023. Bengals owner Mike Brown said the team could structure Burrow's deal similar to the contract Patrick Mahomes got from the Chiefs (10 years, $450M). Burrow and Chargers QB Justin Herbert are both expected to sign extensions over $50 million annually this offseason.

Bengals exercised Joe Burrow's fifth-year option.​

Here's some more news that should surprise nobody. Burrow has thrown for 9,086 yards and 69 touchdowns over his last two seasons, leading the Bengals to back-to-back AFC Championship games and one Super Bowl. He finished fourth in MVP voting last year. The Bengals are attempting to sign him to an extension this offseason. If for whatever reason that doesn't happen, Burrow will be making $29.5 million on the fifth-year option. Jalen Hurts is the only one of the three major offseason quarterback extension dominos (Justin Herbert is also at the table) that has happened thus far. Hurts set an average per year record of $51 million, but with only $110 million in guarantees.

Joe Burrow said on his ongoing contract extension talks with the Bengals: “I’m involved. That's in the works."​

“I’m pretty clear on what I want in the contract and what I think is best for myself and the team,” Burrow added. “So, we’re on the road to making that happen.” Cincinnati's franchise quarterback looks able to command top of the market money from the Bengals if he desires. He and Justin Herbert are the remaining two quarterbacks from this offseason's four market-setting extensions. Lamar Jackson one-upped Jalen Hurts with $52 million per year in his contract, signed after Hurts', and holds the non-Deshaun Watson guaranteed record at $135 million.

Last year, Burrow lead the league in PFF grades in overall quarterback play and few would argue.

I think Burrow is going to be even better this season.
Last year he had a burst appendix and had emergency surgery for an appendectomy right before the season began.

Last year, the Bengals boosted their O-Line but this year they added a Pro Bowl OLT in Orlando Brown Jr. who they signed-away from their playoff who they lost to last year, Kansas City.

Add, Ja'Marr Chase is entering his third year in the league. Apply the third-year WR rule to expect even 'better' production from his stellar wideout.
Last year the Bengals started out slow and lost their first two games as Burrow was recovering from surgery. They've won the AFCN the last two years and just stole a Pro Bowl OLT away from their top playoff rival.
I believe Burrow is on the path for a 'historic' season.

Feels like he's just due for a mega season. If Chase and Higgins stay healthy all season, he should be a monster for fantasy. His rushing production isn't setting the world on fire, but 250 and 5 on the ground is nothing to scoff at.

I think he can contend for QB1 without the price tag.

Just like the DB on the Lions the other day I'll wait wait for official confirmation before judging him either 100% ok or out for the year.
 
Well we know one thing for sure. Can't ever trust what Zac Taylor says about injuries so just ignore whatever the coach says.
 
Now that we have our first full blown panic the 2023 season has officially begun...everything is easier in the offseason when there are no injuries.
 
Watching the video of what happened I feel better than I did when I first heard the report. He was not really pushing off or landing directly. It looked a bit like a bad cramp. I was leaning the hamstring but the calf strain makes a lot of sense from watching the video again about 500 times. I'm sure they took a good look and we should know for sure in the next 24 hours.
 
Sign some XFL QBs or at least Taamu for the summer.
Their backups are brutal. Give a guy a chance to make an impression
